robbalvey Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 So to conclude our little UK adventure, we took a trip down to Pleasureland in Southport to see what was left..... "not much" would be the right answer! http://www.themeparkreview.com/southport2007/southport1.htm What was a coaster that we rode over the summer: Is now a pile of firewood: It's a good thing I didn't really care for the Cyclone otherwise I'd really be bummed! Anyway, check out the entire update here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/southport2007/southport1.htm Lots of interesting photos and a POV video of Cyclone. --Robb
martinb Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Its very sad seeing the place like that, especially as it doesn't derserve it. I'm curious as to why KSM is still standing, I'm guessing its up for sale.
Cyclone37 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Hmmm. I used to operate the Cyclone and im pretty sure i was operating on the day of the TPR visit to! Seeing it like that is very sad. My old baby, flattened! oh well. Remember the good times is what i say. Besides there is a clone of the ride in India bit out of the way granted, but a clone just the same! Hate to be the bringer of bad news, but the fun house is expected to remain open only until march of this year. When the park closed there were bookings right through until then, so it has been kept open to respect those bookings and obviously for new bookings aswell. It is very strange that KSM is still standing, they have been pretty quick to either sell or demolish the other rides. As much as it was alot of fun, it wasnt very reliable! there where always brake problems and mid ride stops! I have to disagree though that the park wasnt looking its best this year, Id argue that in asthetics the park was looking better than it has done for a long long time. Improvments like the new entrance building, the adition of new paving and gardens throughout the park and general tidying up i feel made the park look very nice, and many people have comented on this. Ironic that the last year of the park has seen it looking better than ever. http://privat.solars.de/cgi-bin/p.pl?p=80074 here is the park in the mid 90's. and simply put its a terrible mess. There are more rides, yes. but i much prefered the park that closed in september to that one! Asthetics aside, i will be the first to admit that your TPR visit was sadly far from perfect! Traumatizer was awaiting a new part from vekoma for the lift hill motor, so that was off. Wildcat was running fine the day before, but just didnt want to play the next day! You almost didnt get the Cyclone because of a major electrical fault (which incidently left half the park without power the day before your visit!) which took hours to fix, and trust me the effort wouldnt of been made if you guys where not coming the next day! infact id say it would of been down for a good day or two! aswell as all this, the day of your visit was also the day of "the Anual outing for under priveliged children on merseyside" (a hard bunch to cope with!) so there you have it! haha
coasterdude5 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 That's too bad... I don't like abandoned/closed amusement park photos but I always have to look at them... Strange. Nice pictures.
Jayjay719 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Great pictures Robb! I want to book my party at the funhouse! But that park looked fun and Im never going to get to go, so sad...
Scaparri Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 So wait, this is completely off topic, but they call a quarter pound with cheese a royale with cheese, right? But it's still a double quarter pounder with cheese as opposed to a double royale with cheese?
cfc Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 ^I second that thanks. I had fun at Pleasureland during the TPR UK trip and will miss the place at least a wee bit. Too bad about the fun house shutting down after March.
exzantia Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Really sad to see the (any) park being torn down. I wonder if they are saving KSM or if they just havn't gotten around to leveling it yet. Anyone know how it compares to PBB's Wild Mouse?
SharkTums Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 The two mice are very similar, but BPB's is the better one.
BarryH Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 So wait, this is completely off topic, but they call a quarter pound with cheese a royale with cheese, right? But it's still a double quarter pounder with cheese as opposed to a double royale with cheese? The McDonald's at DLP called a Quarter Pounder a Royale with Cheese. Quentin Tarantino was right!
bgwfreak Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 This struck me as funny... "Please report to security...so we can prosecute you!" You'd better report to security...or we'll uh... prosectue you!
thomas2 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 While it looked boring and slow, it's always sad to see a coaster go... Thanks for the update!
martinb Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 So wait, this is completely off topic, but they call a quarter pound with cheese a royale with cheese, right? Wrong, we(British) call a Quarter Pounder with cheese, a Quarter Pounder, its the French that call it a Royale with Cheese.
XII Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Yay! It's still posible to get on the Social Mixer! Too bad the rest of the park is getting torn down.
Airtime&Gravity Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Nice photo TR even if it is of a park being torn down. The park looked somewhat decent in your UK trip, at least the park kept the fun house. Does anyone know what will happen to the wild mouse?
arrowfanman Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I'm just picturing that Psyclone will look like that in 3-weeks. .... -Jahan

Satoshi Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 i don't really want to see anything like the park is going to get that woodie ride torn down because it's too sad thing for me..... looks like the classic woodies are starting to be taken out of the park!
Samy Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 One question: in wich part of England is this park?
SharkTums Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 West Coast about 20 miles due south of Blackpool.
Satoshi Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 wow! the park is really close to Blackpool and it's going to be good spot for tons of visitors from all over the britain!
Carnage Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 wow! the park is really close to Blackpool and it's going to be good spot for tons of visitors from all over the britain! That park WAS close to Blackpool. The park doesn't exist anymore.
