The Internet Wood Coaster Poll Results Are IN!

Recommended Posts

As I have not ridden Voyage or Balder. My Top coaster was El Toro. I'm pleased that it came out as #3. I'm hoping to get up to HW this year to ride those three great costers myself. So I can be the judge, cause' there seems to be some contradiction in what people realy say about them.

I am also looking forward to hopefully debunking this myth of the legendary Paul Drabek, as I believe that this person dosn't realy exist. :?

Phoenix #4!?!?!?!?!?!?!? What is wrong with people? "It ain't that good!"

Dennis "needs to shut up while he's ahead!"

That's what I was thinking too! Phoenix being better than her brother, Twister! I thought Twister had a better edge over the Phoenix last summer! Sad to say, the Phoenix is not what it used to be in the 1990's. It has lost it's luster, and the slam dunk on the 2nd to last hop into the brake run is gone. I've been riding the Phoenix every summer for the past 20 years and I have noticed the Phoenix becoming mellow in the past 4 years.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't ride it "back in the day" then, cause I rode it for the first time ever this year and it scared the crap outta me!

That's my kind of airtime! I look forward to riding the Phoenix for the first time ever this June.

Well I was pleased to see that all the woodies I rated as '1' (because I can't cope with rating them all individually) were in the top -60!!!

I WAS surprised that there were only 490 completed ballots given the size of the TPR community alone.

So for anyone who didn't vote and looks askance at the end results, just follow the tips given by Robb/Coasterfanatic, keep it relatively simple ( I only have 6 categories but next year I think I can break that down further to say 8 ) and get your vote in.

My personal views are:

Voyage No.1 ?? - get a life

BPB - Wild Mouse - come on you none voters who have ridden this, get voting!!

Cornball IN - glad to see you in the top 25, you belong there.

As for Thunderhead and Hades on a tie at 07- all I can say is they are my most anticipated not yet ridden coasters - so I'll see what I can do about that in 07

Steve- it really is all too technical for me-C

I was surprised by the drop off in poll submissions this year as well. I wonder if it was in any way related to the fiasco last year?

The Wild Mouse @ BPB has been in my top ten woodies more than once, so: Amen, Bruthah Steve!

What's a Paul Drabek?

The only "surprise" that I had was Wolf Kabobs at #154. I honestly think this ride has gotten a LOT better in the past two years, and it was easily within the top-15 on my list.

I don't think Voyage deserved #1. In all honesty, it's TOO long. It's too much.

I'd like to see more GCII's up higher on the list. I would have guessed Kentucky Rumbler to be in at least the top-10.

Probably get's pulled down by the many people who have not been back to the park in years.

I've only been to the park back in the SFWoA days. So because of that it gets ranked near the bottom of my list.

I'm sure there's quite alot of other people who have not ridden it since it's been fully retracked, and probably won't anytime soon either.

^Dumbass.

He's an enthusiast who's a 'little' too obsessed with Holiday World.

Give me a break, Elissa! You forget that I didn't become obsessed with coasters until AFTER I moved to Italy. That means I haven't been subjected to nearly as many ACErs or coaster idiots as you have. You, Robb, and those on the UK trip are the biggest coaster peeps I've really met. I did meet a few ACErs that came on the ECC trip to Japan, but I didn't really get to know any of them except Lisa Schein.

Wood coaster poll.

NEARLY done with the steel poll...

I was suprised about a few things on this poll. First and biggest supprise was Kentucky Rumbler. I ranked it at ten or eleven on my ballot, and I have only been on 30 woodies. I thought it was fairly forceless, and had little airtime, so I was suprised it was that high. I was also suprised that the Georgia cyclone and Cyclops both fell pretty far. Those are two of my favorites, and the only two coasters I thought I would die on. Those two have the best airtime ever, and they are both in the 40s. I guess it is just because most people don't like rough woodies.

Ghoster Coaster: #166

Minebuster: #131

Wild Beast: #115

Wow, Canadas Wonderland really sucked in that poll.

I'm ashamed.

Ghoster Coaster is a kiddy coaster, and Minebuster and Wild Beast suck.

They're ranked right where they deserve to be.

Minebuster would have ranked alot higher had Paramount not castrated the ride.

BTW, Robb, Joey, and I all ranked Dania Beach Hurricane pretty high up, hopefully as more people get to ride it they'll see how awesome it is!

Just ride in the front at night. And take plenty of pictures in the station. Then it'll be an awesome ride.

I am just glad Vancouver, Canada's contribution to the wooden coaster "world" is still holding on, in there amongst all of the others listed.... Slipped a bit since a few years back (see pic), but hey - still going strong for me, LOL!

#19. Coaster - Playland - Vancouver, CANADA

There it is, at #14. This was a few years back, so it's nice that Coaster hasn't moved down the list too much since then. (T-shirt backside c/o Liseberg souvenirs and TPR)

What's a Paul Drabek?

Is that a fatty patch jacket Robb sighting? People keep telling me about FPJR. This confirms my hunch that this alleged Paul D. realy doesn't exist. Anybody could be photoshopped into that seat. Except for the fact that no one could fit in a seat next to Robb during that dark time of his life. I still think he is just some dude that has been digitally composited into someones computer then makes random appearances via the internet. You can create completely fictional personas on the web these days.

Look at all the pictures people have of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. Experts still have never proved either have, or does exist.

^Thanks Jow. I've been there and done that. It only stands to reinforce my disbelief. I could have a website called hornysumo. You know me, does that describe me? I could even show pictures of a horny Sumo. Would that make him real? No. There's too much grey area that surrounds this dude. I could even go so far as to hire some huge pornstar to play horny Sumo in public. Does that make him real? I say no again.

Look at how Tony Clifton (AKA Andy Kaufman's alter persona) is constantly being seen around here in LA. Does that mean that Andy is still alive and did in fact fake his death? Not nessissarily. Too many questions that need to be answered. If the questions are not answered then theirs resonable doubt. With doubt comes skepticism. Without skepticism then the questions will never get answered. In which case, this Paul person will only live as an urban myth untill those questions are answered. So untill the proof is placed upon the table. He, like DB cooper will not, and cannot exist.

Nice to see Voyage and Toro duking it out for #1 in the US - it's nice to know that, even with 10-inversions and Stratacoasters out there, people can still appreciate the awesomeness of a kick-ass woodie.

At the risk of having everybody post their ballots, I am going to post mine; I am only doing this because, for whatever reason, my ballot couldn't be accepted (despite having voted in the past), so please don't post your ballots if they can be found at Mitch's site.

The reason I post this is because I really want to give props to/for El Toro - even as a fan of the old "rib-cracker" style of pain-inducing woodies, there's no denying the absolute airtime-insanity that Toro provides.

It's not exactly my cup of tea, but SFGAdv definitely deserves a nod for bringing this awesome design to America.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that there is definitely a heated debate going on between the two, but they both deserve respect. If you're into a good old-fashioned ass-kicking, if you want to push your body to the absolute limit of how much punishment your body can possibly take from a coaster (like me!), and so many things going on at once that you can't even wrap your head around where your body's heading, go with The Voyage. If you prefer a more buttery-smooth ride, like an out-of-control flying carpet, with the absolute longest-lasting airtime you've ever experienced, go with El Toro.

Actually, screw that, go with both of them. Intamin and Gravity Group deserve it.
