robbalvey
^ While I would personally disgree, many people do find value in ACE. If you want my opinion, ECC puts out a much, MUCH better magazine. If you were going to join one coaster club, visit: www.coasterclub.org instead of ACE. --Robb "Just my 2 cents, and I wouldn't give them to ACE!" SharkTums
Fine Joey, see if this makes you happy: How to join ACE: First you're going to want to gain at least 78 pounds, no matter how much you currently weigh. Then make sure to start eating and talking about cake A LOT. Finally, you're going to want to make sure you're ready to never have sex again. Cause you'll be too busy recording what seat you last sat in on the Beast and how awesome it was.
Carnage
Just realize that being in ACE costs at least five times more then any of the other smaller clubs. And all you're missing out is the magazine and the ACE exclusive events. Which IMHO aren't anything that you can't get elsewhere.
Wes
Devise a system for "maximizing" airtime on kiddie coasters. Memorize unimportant details like how many bolts are in the third hill on Kennywood's Racer. Eat a lot of gravy. A LOT OF GRAVY. Be sure to name drop all the coaster designers you met any chance you get. Make posts on RRC on how stupid the "GP" is, and how you're so much smarter because you know the last time Dennis McNulty farted. Make ridiculous statements like Holiday World has better dark rides than Disney. Infact, disown anything Disney. They do not exist. Any park that isn't in Ohio, Indiana, or Pennsylvania also doesn't probably exist, or isn't worth mentioning. Do you like tie-died t-shirts with garish logos of fantasy creatures slashing through coaster track? Good, because you'll be wearing lots of those. Make sure to have a debate on the best glasses strap for multiple rerides on Jr. Gemini. Stark Raven Mad and Phoenix Phall Phunphest are more important than birthdays, anniversaries, births of children, or deaths of relatives. Then, and only then, will you be a true ACEr. BarryH
Also, put a lot of coaster patches on your demin jacket. Learn to eat at buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No joke...I met a guy in ACE at the Dania Beach Hurricane. He carried around a computer printout of all the coasters that he rode. He talked to me endlessly about theme park stuff I could care less about. It didn't look like he had sex in 1,000 years and still lived in his parents' basement. Carnage
How do I hook up with an ACEr hottie? That's like looking for a red herring. But if you want to hook up with an ACEr just show up at a major coaster event and talk to one.

Twister II
How do I hook up with an ACEr hottie? That's quite a hard question. The ACEr is usually on the move, spending money on over priced trips. But can easily be found on many dating websites. (EHarmony, Beautiful People, etc.) However, don't expect to see them, they will be half way across the country.
Meteornotes
Did you ever see the ACEers devour the cake at PKD!?!?! Cake = currency to all of these clubs! OK, I forgot about the festival of cake consumption at PKD. That was pretty scary. dt
Carnage
Paul... was the She-Beast an ACEr?? You should convince her to join... I highly doubt she even know's what ACE is. And convincing her to join would require me actually talking to her again. Or even seeing her in person again for that matter. Two things I never plan on doing. pvcoasterguy
Your car also must be endlessly labeled with bumper stickers of parks or of rides you have been on. True story... while we were going to SFGAm for marching band, we were passed by a light, sparkly-green VW beetle with personalized, coaster-themed license plates, and over 100 bumper sticker of parks/rides. It was scary.

downunder
400+ lbs, male, and never had sex - you are automatically a member. Being interested in coasters is optional because you would be too large to get on them - they should call it American Buffet Enthusiasts. I am so nasty, I'll just say Homer simpson started it. All Clear
But if you want to hook up with an ACEr just show up at a major coaster event and talk to one. Theoretically. OK, all jokes aside. What is up with (most) ACErs not wanting to talk to anybody new? I joined ACE because I met a couple of really nice guys at a park a couple of years ago and they said it was fun and they seemed cool so I went ahead and joined. I've never seen either of them again. I've been to several events and it's really rare that I meet anyone and actually talk to them. I've wondered if it's me. I recently saw someone at PKD that I had had a brief conversation with earlier this year at a multi-club event. I went over to say hi and this guy said, "Oh, yeah, I remember you..." but all the while it was like he was hightailing it away. Couldn't stop and chat, oh, hell no. I kinda followed along for a bit trying to establish that we were two human beings who shared a common interest and lived on the same planet, but I seriously could not keep up with him. And even though he was talking, he wasn't looking at me. SO MANY TIMES the ACErs won't look at you when you're attempting conversation. This has typically been the case when I try to meet some "stragglers," by which I mean people hanging in ones and twos. On the other end of the spectrum are the great large herds that attend these events. These make more sense to me. They seem to be people who've been doing this for a while and they've all known each other for years and their clique is pretty established. You can't meet any of them because they're all too busy catching up with each other and reviewing all the inside jokes etc. I like meeting people. But I've never had a more difficult time chatting someone up than at an ACE event. Granted, there have been exceptions. At a couple of events, I have met a small handful of people who were cool to hang around with. But so often I leave wondering why I planned my trip to this particular park on this particular date just so I could end up hanging around like it was any other day at any other park with the exception of the ubiquitous gravy-laden buffet. Shoo-whee. Didn't mean to get all emo, but there it is. Maybe I just need to save up my moolah and take a TPR trip.
bratman
I myself joined ACE earlier this year, looking to meet like minded people, as well as attend the events. I have met some of the people stereotyped in this thread...yeah some were scary...... lol. For the most part, people have been normal. I only have done two events this year (I plan on more next year), being the Michigan's Adventure event, and the Lakemont Park event. There were some who I think take things way too seriously (but then again, in any hobby like this you're going to run across the supergeeks), but the majority of the people were folks like me, and we shared our stories. Even met a couple nice young ladies Those who didn't want to talk... I left alone. Yeah there were some pretty weird ones there, and I kept farrrr farrrrrrrrrr away from them. The big test for me will be CoasterCon next year........ that will pretty much test my faith in ACE.....
