Zen Coaster Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Generally, do non-Disney Japanese theme parks have really wacky mascots like anime characters or whatever ? What about in Europe? I'm not only concerned with coaster credits, I'd like to boost my 'silly character portraits' one as well.
SharkTums Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Oh yeah! I got molested by way too many wacky characters at random Japanese parks!
the sound Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Oh, I will give you $50 in Monopoly money if you pick on Ryan rather than me. Why would anyone pick on a 12 year old, when they pick on a grown man?
coaster05 Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 ^Because the 12 year old deserves it more. Plus Barry makes a nice vacation video. Carnage sorry to hear that I guess I will have to find a new person to ditch Hot Ice with.
BarryH Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I think at one time or another, everyone on the UK trip got picked on. But hey, you can pick on Robb all you want!
SharkTums Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Everyone by now should have received an email from me if you sent in a deposit. If you have not gotten an email, please email me at emeridithw2@aol.com ASAP. PLEASE REMEMBER DEPOSITS FOR MIDWEST AND SPAIN MUST BE POSTMARKED BY TOMORROW!! THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28!
roasted_marshmallow Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Well as much as I wanted to go, I've had to drop out of the Spain trip. Just can't responsibly afford it. Even my best case estimates had me more or less charging the entire trip costs to a credit card. Visa and Mastercard have raped me enough. I'll have to look to 2008. That makes me very sad as you're about my age, and also Canadian. I'd ask if there are any other Canadians going on the trip, but I'm sure I'll find that out in the uber secret trip forum....
NathP Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 I've always wanted to go to the USA and visit parks there for years now so I've been quite interested in this Mid-West trip since it was anounced are there many uk ppl going? Just a small question, how busy are the parks expected to be in early August from experience? Do the schools have different holidays to us in the UK?
Hercules Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Schools out in August over here. I don't know from first hand experience because I have never been to the parks, but for the most part, a lot of the parks in the mid west are pretty tame all year round.

Just a small question, how busy are the parks expected to be in early August from experience? Do the schools have different holidays to us in the UK? We do have quite a few international readers going, yes. As for how busy the parks are, well, I wouldn't expect them to be "dead" and we did realize this when we scheduled the trip. We're doing our best to avoid the most crowded times by doing most of our "park time" in the evenings and mornings, and doing most of our driving in the middle of the day when parks tend to be the busiest. Quite a few of our days have us arriving at a park around 5 or 6pm, staying until close, evening ERT, then morning ERT the next day, staying until about noon or 1pm, driving 3-4 hours to the next park. So we're at parks during the least busy hours of the day, but still have a "full day" budgeted, just split between two different times. And on parks where we might not get ERT, we will do our best for "fast pass" systems or other front of the line passes. Hope this helps! --Robb
NathP Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Thanks for the reply Robb, so in other words its the same park but in the evening on one day and then morning the next. I really appreiate you offering these trips. I was going to organize my own trip to the states next year but I doubt it will go ahead now as all my friends are skint so if its not too late is it ok to put a disposit down if its done today? Thanks Nath

I'm pretty sure most of us that have been to SFGAm or CP in the middle of the summer will hardly call the crowds tame. My concern is us getting into Chicago via the south end. The Dan Ryan is in a major reconstruction project and is a total disaster. It can take a couple of hours to traverse it, especially in the middle of the day.

SharkTums Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Don't you think we've given thought to traffic patterns and timing? Keep in mind, we live in LA!!!! KING OF TRAFFIC! We will be driving through (and when I say through, I mean around!) Chicago in the middle of the day, we will be leaving AFTER rush hour another day. As for deposits, they must be POSTMARKED by today for first dibs, we do NOT have to RECEIVE them today. Keep in mind, if you still do not know about putting a deposit down you are welcome to put a deposit down AFTER the Postmark day, but you will not be put in the initial lottery (if needed). I'd also like to remind people that over the course of 10 months last year we had SIXTEEN DROPS! So that means that 16 people from the waitlist made it into the trip! This means, please do NOT give up hope if you are put on a waitlist.
Carnage Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 ^ If watching the TV show 24 taught me anything it's that Jack Bower can drive anywhere in LA within 20 minutes.

Every route into the city from the south is torn up. 90/94, 80/90, 294, the Skyway...it's a total disaster. Although, there's only one city that I hated traffic more than Chicago....LA. You guys (and gals) are nuts to put up with it.

Wes Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 ^ If watching the TV show 24 taught me anything it's that Jack Bower can drive anywhere in LA within 20 minutes. I think this proves that the show doesn't deserve any praise. Terrorists could probably blow up LA eighteen times before Jack makes it from Santa Monica to Burbank.

Not to get too off topic, but yeah I know what you mean. The show got kind of silly later on. Must suck to be a supporting actor on that show. They all get killed off.
