Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I don't think I'll want to buy a season pass if they don't get a coaster in 2016. We already filled the needs for family attractions. I also don't mean to sound rant or anything but cmon, we need a new coaster.

sorry to burst your bubble but Canada's Wonderland is getting a massive coaster in 2016 and Cedar Point probably will to

Canada's Wonderland is not getting a huge coaster. They got Leviathan which is massive enough, Behemoth for the mega coasters, so expect something other than a massive coaster. They could get something decent at low cost (like a modern woodie) so Valleyfair can get their massive coaster, which could still be a low price tag since massive at Valleyfair would still be around 150 to 199 ft.

They've started land clearing a year and a half early so trust me Canada's Wonderland is getting another 30 million dollar coaster, just read the news stories from the park with reporters where they say you saw we built leviathan and behemoth so expect big and innovative

They can start land clearing three years ago, it doesn't mean another massive coaster. Yes it does mean a coaster, but im not seeing anything over 20 million. Valleyfair has been stated multiple times of major investment for quite a long time now officially. What you are basing a massive coaster at Canada's Wonderland is only speculation.

I'm so certain I'm willing to bet you this coaster will be big and over 25 million dollars, I'll bet you $100 thats how certain i am.

Valleyfair height restriction is 275 feet tall so if any new ride or roller coaster they can build it up to 275 feet. When Power Tower was built in 2000 I really think it could have been 300 feet tall but the FAA flying cloud airport put a stop to it.

You are right. Power Tower was originally planned to be 300 feet tall, but the FAA limited it to 275 ft because PT is literally right in line with one of Flying Cloud's runways. The restriction doesn't apply to the west side of the park. It would be great if we got a 275+ foot coaster, but unfortunately hoping for a coaster like that at Valleyfair is delusional even with the park marked for significant expansion potential.

So What! Yea, maybe CW is going to get another coaster in 2016. So What! You think Cedar Fair can't build more than one new coaster per year? That's ridiculous. There are 11 Cedar Fair parks (12 if you count Gilroy Gardens) that could get a new coaster. I didn't count the waterparks. If Cedar Fair only built one coaster per year they would fall far behind Six Flags in park development. I don't thing they want to go there. Cedar Fair spends appox. 100 million per year on park expansions/new rides. If you split that up evenly among the parks it comes out to almost 7.7 million per park per year. Well we all know that doesn't happen. If you remove Gilroy Gardens and Wild Water Kingdom then that number grows to nearly 10 million per year per park. Valleyfair spent approx 3 million on route 76, (Money well spent IMO), and nearly 7 million for next years waterpark expansion. Even if they did spend say $30 million on a new 2016 coaster at CW and let's say they spend $20 million on a new 2016 coaster for Valleyfair that still leaves 50 million or 5.5 million per park for the remaining 9 parks (Again, I am not counting Gilroy Gardens or Wild Water Kingdom). So, again I say, so what! Let's CW build a new coaster. That does not mean Valleyfair won't get theirs. That's just my humble opinion so I don't think you need to crush other peoples wish list/hopes/dreams or whatever. If CW gets a new coater, GREAT! That's great news for Cedar Fair! But Valleyfair has waited patiently for long enough, it's time we get a major new coaster in 2016. As for the $100 dollar bet, Is that U.S dollars or Canadien dollars? I'd say take that money and buy yourself a platnium pass so you can visit both CW and Valleyfair in 2016 to ride both of Cedar Fairs new coasters Oh, by the way, I have not forgotten about a new hint! Keep checking!

I agree. Cedar Fair can certainly build more than one new coaster in a year. Plus, CW has received two new coasters in the last 3 seasons (Wonder Mountain's Guardian technically counts as a roller coaster), with one of them being a $28 million gigacoaster. I'd say CW is just fine right now in terms of roller coasters.

Speaking of Wonder Mountain's Guardian, would any of you ever want to see a dark ride at VF? I'm a thrills-over-theming type of guy, but I'll admit that a dark ride would be a nice addition. Of course, I wouldn't expect one to happen for a while (2019 or 2020) because the park has more pressing needs first (new coaster, new thrilling flat ride, waterpark expansion #2). I just think that a dark ride might be a valid possibility because I remember hearing about Cedar Fair wanting to do more business with Triotech, and they basically spilled the beans on Knott's Berry Farm getting one in the near future.

Yes Wonderland got two new coasters in the past 3 years, but we already have significant land clearing and read this article and the quotes. Don't be jelous that Wonderland is Cedar Fairs new Gem bringing in large attendance numbers for a seasonal theme park, Highest attended seasonal park in North America.

-------The difficult decision to close SkyRider was due in part to the aging coaster’s location. The ride sits on 5,100 square metres of prime land between the water park and Wonder Mountain, and the park’s executives decided the spot would be a perfect place for their next big attraction.

Phillips was tight-lipped about what that attraction might be or how long it will take to complete.

“All I can tell you is it’s a very large construction project,” he said. “If you look at our history, over the last five to seven years, I think guests know it will be something exciting.”-------

^ In no way are we "jealous". We know that CW is getting something new and big. You don't need to keep posting that on here. Go to the CW thread if you want to do that. We all know CW is bigger than VF and most other parks, but there is no need for you to say that VF will not be receiving a coaster in 2016. 2 parks can receive a major coaster in one year, so just because CW is getting one doesn't mean VF won't. If your going to keep doing this than please go somewhere else than this thread.

Never said idiots, and were only going on because you said Valleyfair wouldn't be getting anything big in 2016. But I apologize in return because it did get out of hand.

Hey Valleyfair peeps--

I'm thinking about making my first trip to this park in 2015. I'd like to do the Mall of America as well. Is there a specific time of the year I should look to do this? Are there any other parks in the area worth doing as well?

Thanks for any help given!

Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day before Haunt starts are the best times to come, but if you have to come during Summer, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are relatively quiet. Mall of America/Nick Universe will be relatively crowded during almost any summer day. Besides VF and NU, no other real amusement parks are that close to the Twin Cities. Next closest park would be Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin Dells (3.5 hrs east).

Technically, Valleyfair already has a launched inverted coaster (Steel Venom), but I wouldn't complain if we got a launched B&M invert. I'd be okay with a launched B&M wing rider like Thunderbird, but I don't see one happening at VF because of the pricetag. A Premier Rides launched coaster would work for me because they are fun, thrilling coasters with an affordable price. Only problem is Cedar Fair hasn't bought any coasters from Premier Rides in the recent past. But yes, I'd certainly be happy if we received any sort of launched coaster.

I'd be thrilled if we received an Intamin Mega-Lite, but it unfortunately seems that the Cedar Fair-Intamin relationship is over. I would personally prefer an Intamin over a B&M. However, B&M could still potentially create an amazing ride for VF.

I'm only guessing, but based on size of the park, I think a slightly longer version of Full Throttle might work great at Valleyfair. It would be awesome to see something like FT at WoF or VF. Granted, I haven't visited either park but I hope to make up for that in 2015!

I have to agree with danderson83 that it doesn't really matter what the coaster is, as long as we get a coaster. I would rather see a wing coaster than an invert come to Valleyfair, but I know I'm in the minority... All I know is that we need something strong. Not a Vekoma.

Just wondering Garyman6, when are we going to get another hint?

Also, I don't see Valleyfair getting something like YOLOcoaster, it just doesn't seem like it would fit in the park, and does anyone know if Cedar Fair has a good relationship with premier rides? I just don't see that fitting in with the rest of the park.

Why wouldn't it? I have no kind of information whatsoever, but is there any real reason to rule them out besides the ever popular "Cedar fair doesn't work with __________" argument?

Premier has some really good products. I'd actually love to see what they could do. Maybe Full Throttle itself wouldn't be a good fit, but the idea of a new launched looper on that scale seems reasonable at some point. Heck, I'd even be happy with a clone of Superman at SFDK. That thing is insane!

The reason I suggested something like Full Throttle is that other people were fantasizing about Intamins, B&M's and Macks on here amongst rumors of CF making a huge investment into the park. Again, I have no insight into this, but based on what CF has put into the park, I think the next "big" coaster isn't going to top $10-12 million.

I agree that I'll pretty much take any new coaster at this point as long as it's not a Vekoma or some other rough model. I don't think it's likely that we will get anything over $12 million, but with VF being labeled as a "growth park", it's at least possible if you ask me.

However, even though it isn't likely, I really hope Valleyfair doesn't get a Eurofighter because we have on 25 minutes away at NU.
