I've emailed Robb, just in case I'm putting this post up as interest in the Midwest trip. My wife has even Ok'ed it (I'd be going alone).

I couldn't price flights that far in advance but American (hardly cheap) roundtrip flights from O'Hare to Cinci were $362. Odd pricing says I....

For those pricing flights:

I don't think you can accurately price at this time. If you are doing it for the midwest trip, then you are looking at last-minute pricing. If for Spain, you are talking a purchase almost a year in advance which means that you are planning well ahead and are more willing to pay a higher price, so those current rates will be inflated a bit. And Japan... even those are probably a little high since we are now less than a month out from when the trip would be taking place. I'd just wait till the winter to look at flights, waiting as long as you can in case you end up dropping out =(

Just some thoughts to consider...

^ Actually, I did it for 327 days out. That's as far as American will let you do it. Obviously, prices are not going to reflect what they will be when the trip is announced officially. I was just trying to figure out how bad it was, as I had heard cost from O'hare to Cinci was ridiculously overpriced all the time. If I can't afford the flight, there's no point in trying to get on the trip....right??? Good news, is I can afford the flight so, I just have to get my money in line and in on time.

haha, i know right? I do believe Robb said for you to E-MAIL HIM, not he e-mail you. I can garauntee that him & Elissa wont have the time or patience to come in and paste everyones e-mails onto the mailing list.

Also, I know we're not talking about pricing yet, but will the pledge price still be the same for holding a spot once the flyers are out?

For those of you looking at airfare...a couple of tips.

1) Travelocity Fare Watcher - Sign up for where you want to go and it will notify you if the fare drops or if it goes on sale. Great for catching one day fare sales and wars.

2) Think about flying in early - You might save quite a bit by flying in one day early and you will get acclimated to the area before the trip starts.

3) Learn the Low, Average and High fares of your destination. For example I know that MCO-LAX averages 220-240 and has a low of 180-220 and a high of 240-300. I know not to buy when it is in that high because it will probably go down. Watch the fares for a while.

4) Consider flying to LAX or NYC for international flights and then booking the international portion separately. This is not always cheaper but it was for us when we went to japan. Plus we had a few extra days in LA.

5) It really is a bit to early to look at airfares - there will probably be a few fare wars before the fall...but be ready to bite if there is a HUGE sale.

Do alot of people fly in a day early? Because if I fly into cincinnati a day early and I'm the only one there, I'll be pretty much hosed. Which brings up another question.

On the UK trip, did y'all meet in one of the airport terminals so as to greet everyone when they first got into the UK?

Another option for those who live with in a couple hundred miles of Cincinnati is taking the Greyhound bus. It's definitely cheaper than flying, however it takes a long time. I’m looking at taking it from Toronto to Cincinnati and it will be a 14-hour bus ride (on average - some are faster but drop you off at 3am!) and it will only cost $139! Far better then the $400 to fly from Toronto.

TexTitan01 - I have a feeling quite a few people will fly in early because flights tend to be cheaper if you fly in mid week (Wednesday or Thursday) and fly out mid week (Tuesday and Wednesday), the only issues that might come up by flying in early is hotels. Most of them wont allow anyone under 21 to stay without an adult.

hope that helps

We met at the hotel. Everyone was responsible for getting to the hotel from the airport on their own. But the hotel and airport were pretty close to each other, so this was pretty easy to do.

I can try making it to the Japan trip... I've always wanted to go to Japan, it looks awesome! It would also make a good b-day present for me since my 20th birthday is during the trip, haha. (OMG! I'm gonna be 20! Ahh! I feel old...)

Right now there is a 70% chance that I could make it... if it's not some ridiculous amount of money... 6k or something, haha.

I'm trying to see if I could find a friend to go with me or something... but if not, I'll just go by myself

^ I dont think it'll be that much. Compared to the UK tour that was this past summer, which costs were only about 1700$ (see flyer for more legitimate prices), I doubt itll be like 5-6k for Japan.

I have $1300 saved from my summer job, and more's on the way, so I'll be totally self funded for the trip I believe..

Hey coaster_dude2002, that was a great tip for taking the Bus, If I were to go on the Midwest Trip, my Dad would have to drive me all the way down to Cincinnati to drop me off, only to drive all the way back to Toronto... Hmm, 8 hour car drive(one-way) or 14-hour bus ride? Me no-no.

And considering you have to be 18 or older or with a guardian to be on the trip, that shouldn't matter.

Please don't speculate on price. The UK Trip *should* have been at least $2000. The Japan trip will be VERY expensive. It is 16 park days, visiting 2 or 3 parks a day sometimes! (Parks that cost $50 each!)

I am le horrible guess I didnt think about the fact that Japan is halfway across the world.

16 and 17 year olds can go with approval from parents and the Alveys
