P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

I'm guessing the reason for taking this coaster down aside from being old and lame was due to the noise it generated upon hurricane Harbor. I can't see them putting any type of ride that would essentially do the same. Also that is a bad spot for an attraction because you can't see over there unless you actually go there. They'll have to do some serious landscaping and most importantly some clearing to get people to see that area.

^ When they replaced Mystic Lake with Hurricane Harbor that really stopped a lot of people from venturing over there which is wierd since its so close to the main entrance.

Question: Last couple times I was in that area (in 2006) I noticed that gate has turnstyles. Do they or did they ever use that area as a secondary entrance to the park.

What gate are you talking about?

There was/is actually two gates in that area.

There is one where the entrance to Joker's Hideout is and it was when Hurricane Harbor first opened they placed a gate between the two parks and actually had a ticket booth right next to it for people that would want to "park-hop" for an added fee. I used to supervise the main gate when HH opened and needless to say we never sold tickets there which led to it's permanent closure.

The other gate between the restrooms and ticket will call is used for special private events. They usually have the red carpet lead up to that gate so regular guests can still exit the normal entrance area without interfering with a special event that takes place after park closure. Many of celebrities have walked through that small gate.

^ I believe its just the footers. They tore down the structure, but left the foundation in tact. I imagine it will stay there until they decide what they want to do with the space.

I still think that they should Take DeJa Vu out, so they have a big lot to put a new coaster in (maybe an Intamin Accellerator or a B&M Dive Machine)

^Interesting, I think I was talking about that second "VIP" gate the whole time because you can see it from both the little "holding area" outside the main gate and inside near the gift shop.

^ I think you're in for a dissapointment then.

I can't see it being replaced by another woodie, let alone another coaster. IMO, the only coaster I could see going in that spot coaster-wise may be an enclosed coaster like the Dark Knights that some of the other Six Flags parks have gotten.

Personally, I would hope for a water park expansion.

Ah, thanks. For some reason, I've been craving that ride lately. Maybe because the last time I was there it just looked tempting. I guess there is something attractive about getting your head smashed into bits.

Has anyone been to wet and wild in Florida and been on The Bomb Bay - Ranked by an Orlando Magazine as Central Florida's greatest thrill ride. You'll enter a 'bomb-like' shell, of which the floor will suddenly drop beneath you plunging you almost vertically for 76 feet! Need we say any more?

If they do not build a deluge where flashback was do you think this could also be a good choice... my friends who have been on it say this is fun because you don't know when the bottom opens up?

any thoughts

^It's a drop slide, which Hurricane Harbor already has two of. So I'm guessing they are not going to go that route.

Just curious---was Viper repainted its original deep orange, or is it in fact red? I haven't been out there yet this year to take a look. It would seem odd to paint two adjacent coasters red.

Besides what is on the official site, are there currently any other SFMM discounts out there?

Also, does anyone know what SFMM's ride rehab schedule is?

The last time I went to Magic Mountain, disco was still popular, so I'm a little out of the loop..so to speak. As far as a coaster in Flashback's space, I'm the eternal optimist. It would be great to see a Eurofighter, a Top Thrill Kaa, or a Kirnu there, and I think at least the Gerstlauer or the Kirnu would fit. Dunno about the Kindga Dragster...

If it ends up being a HH expansion, then so be it. At least they will b e doing something valuable with the space, instead of turning it into, say, a Hannah Montana area (barf).

I personally don't think that there will be another coaster or thrill ride added to the location where Flashback stood (unless, as Robb said, it would be one of the indoor coasters). If I recall correctly, a lot of the reason there were issues with Flashback running had something to do with it interfering with the lifeguards at Hurricane Harbor.

My best guess is that they will either put an in-park entrance to Hurricane Harbor there, or add a water park attraction. Maybe one of the Deluge coasters, as others have suggested, or some sort of wet/dry play area.

If SFMM does get another coaster in the coming 3-4 years, I am guessing it will be one of three types-one of the indoor coasters, a Tony Hawk coaster, or a wooden coaster and that it will go where Psyclone once resided and in the area near that space in the back of the park. They could use any of the above three. If the get another thrill ride other than a coaster, I see them putting in a drop tower of some kind to replace FreeFall.

I had a thought once that they might do what Great Adventure did and replace their Viper with an El Toro as well, since they have two sit down looping coasters in Scream and Revolution already and could use a good wooden coaster, but I don't see that happening, at least not anytime soon.

Whatever the case-although Flashback and Psyclone were unique rides, the time had come for them to be a part of the past. I have to say I'm impressed with all of their recent decisions at SFMM-getting two problematic coasters with little or no ridership out, the success of their latest big coaster addition in Tatsu (although they need to be running all three trains and both stations on busy days!), fixing the issues with X, adding more family attractions for balance, and overall park improvements. It's a long slow process, but I think that in the coming years, this place will be making a huge comeback.

^If they can do more themeing to X, Scream, Colossus, and Goliath....that would make it even better. I say give Scream at least some grass and trees and re name Scream! and give it new colors. Also, they need to close revolution for a little and get some workers in their to get all the rust off of the ride and fully re-paint it.

I have no idea what they will do with the empy space. I always thought that SFMM never needed a water park. But, it's a good way to make money I guess. After they get the 10 mil back from what was spent on X2, they need to spent a lot on themeing and getting Revolution back off of the ground. So far, they have made some every good decisions on fixing the park up, so theming those rides maybe a reality.

Blink makes a good point. Theming is a very important thing. You can do a lot with landscaping. Look at Batman it's the only ride at SSMM that had a "art director" when they built it and it really shows. I went this last Sept. to SSMM for the first time in 23 years and it was sad. ( I've posted this before) One of the things I was most disappointed in was Revolution. This is one of the most important coasters in the world. This is the one that started it all, a Schwarzkopf IBSG custom and they treat it like dodo. Look at how Disney treats the Matterhorn. They know they have a legendary coaster. That ride is on it's 3rd set of cars and it's 49years old plus it's in water. All SSMM has done is let the Revolution fall into disrepair. It's sooo rough now. Revolution should get a complete rehab with new cars , paint and maybe a time line telling everyone about the history of this "Revolutionary" coaster.
