  1. Actually it is less rotation for it to go backwards through the element and besides it adds something unique to the ride. I think this looks like a great ride and as much as you can argue how good it is in comparison it will serve it's purpose well. I haven't seen any concept art or anything so I don't know if they plan to theme it more. But lets face it the biggest killer on water rides is they fill like crazy on a hot day. The video of the Europa Park version really showed just how great this ride is at throughput. I mean heck with the two turntables they had boats on each! Thats huge... If they can keep that kind of operation up it will mean a ton of people get on an hour and that is a great thing for any water ride.
  2. That was a Vekoma retrofit to Chessington's Vampire. Actually I don't know how successful it was because I seem to remember hearing that the front row had to be closed at times. Of course I could be completely wrong and if anyone has info to the contrary I'm happy to admit I my mistake. On the topic of Sheikra I don't see it as a bad move and the trains look like they could be retrofitted meaning they don't have to absorb the cost of completely new trains. Perhaps B&M just wasn't able to make a floorless removable floor system for such wide trains when it debuted? It could be all sorts of things but that is what makes the most sense to me personally.
  3. Seriously you should blog on this stuff... You could even call it something like Robb's Rant... Sorry I've been pretty heavy on the alliteration stuff recently. Dunno why... Still it would be interesting to have that sort of thing added and it would be a good way to post quick updates and would allow more formatting than the forum posts do. On the whole Magic Mountain thing I think making the waterpark part of admission would be one of the most family friendly things that they could do. I mean it allows the family to split up and join together at different times and could potentially allow them to charge slightly higher prices for the overall tickets. Seems to me that by keeping them separate they are likely missing out on some money that could be had. The only thing I still can't really resolve is the whole Metro thing. I mean it was constantly said that they couldn't get replacement parts because the manufacturer disappeared. Are they planning on pulling a IoA and putting new track in or what? There is no way they could keep those machines in operation with custom parts without a huge order.
  4. Why do people fly off the freaking handle if they aren't getting the worlds best Intamin or B&M these days? I mean seriously you aren't gonna make the park money alone and as it is the X-flight is a great fit for a park. For a park that only has one adult inverted an X-flight is a great match. The public will be very enthusiastic about the addition and it will likely increase attendance significantly. This is the exact same argument that we all had with the news that Blackpool was getting an old SLC... But for a park with no Inverted rides and hardly any inversions it will be a huge source of excitement. I guess what I am saying is that amusement parks are a business... Whatever way you cut it the best way to make money is to appeal to the GP with the least expensive projects. CF has dug itself a big hole with the purchase of the Paramount parks. I wouldn't expect every park to get B&Ms and the like anytime soon. It just isn't cost effective. Besides you guys would complain if it was a clone of another parks ride anyway...
  5. Yeah the suggestions of the Standup to Floorless seem the most realistic but I wonder what sort of retrofits would need to be made to the station to make it work. I think it might be cost prohibitive although it might be a good way to breathe new life into a coaster and possibly make some of the more forceful standups a bit more re-ridable. I think standard sit downs could probably be swapped with floorless as well.
  6. What sort of physics do those guys operate on... That corner just looks unnatural. Look at that angle! Then it dives straight into a corner going the other direction. I give this a
  7. Thats kinda hard to believe... I've only been on one of the Vekoma MadHouse rides (Alton Towers) but it was incredibly tame and the actual vehicle only tipped to about 45degrees and it did that slowly or swung up. Very sad but people have to have more respect for rides. Rides are heavy machinery and need to be respected as such. You have to stay on if you get on...
  8. Whats funny about that is that I know that one of the coaster shows or coaster books I have read talked about someone who lost a glass eye on the Big One and it being recovered during work which necessitated draining the lake. Plus I thought that same book said that they drained the water around the log flume to do cleaning every few years. Isn't it the same water? But I have to agree that the bra is truly strange... That had to be a joke...
  9. Wait so it has shown up multiple times at Burning Man? I remember seeing this years ago linked from some other site. Based on what they said about how it was built I figured it was a one off.
  10. Apparently Elitch's is $60... Ugh. Seriously.
  11. Um not exactly... He said PLZ, capped the entire title, didn't put a single bit of punctuation in either post other than a < which I hope was unintentional, plus there are numerous spelling mistakes that should be easily correctable. Honestly it is more trying to help this person before they post places on these boards that are more heavily policed. On the main board Robb and Elissa often only warn once or twice...
  12. Also never ever use language like that again. It is forbidden on these boards. Try to use real English and don't use internet slang. I would suggest modifying your posts. Also make sure to always spell check. The people who run these boards make it quite clear in the rules. It isn't an unreasonable rule as leet speak and similar internet slang are quite possibly the most horrible bastardization of language there are today. Besides, it makes it incredibly hard for many people to understand what you are trying to say. So try to use real language as just because you are online doesn't mean you should be sloppy.
  13. Why not adapt them into scenarios?
  14. Is this permanent or is it going to be evenings only eventually? If it is permanent it sucks... If it is evenings only I'm ok with it... Hopefully they are gonna get better fitting music eventually.
  15. The silver specks you talk about are almost certainly some sort of surface treatment like a primer meant to make the new paint adhere better to the tricky sections. Of course I could be wrong but the bolts are where I usually see the worst weathering of track so my guess is that they had to do some work on those before painting or the paint wouldn't take.
  16. Uh oh... Robb better start including disclaimers about magical powers in all the shipments of TPR merchandise from now on... Seriously fun stuff. I can't believe how insane that is... Plus parents that browse TPR thats nuts too. Thats some good stuff. Thanks for the laugh.
  17. I think it is a good move period... I mean based on what we have seen about the way that Blackpool broke down and sold some of the items from rides it has taken down in the last few years it was probably a unbeatable price. I think that the Southport stuff probably got sold under market value and so who knows they might have bought all the stuff you are complaining about for less than they could get most family rides. Plus as much as I hate to say it thrill seekers are the ultimate money loser for many parks. Thrill seekers always want a new expensive fix and nothing is ever good enough for long. A good compliment of family rides should ensure a good number of local families will attend often. Just above all remember that parks are a business and families tend to drop more money than most thrill seekers.
  18. What does it say when it took me several tries to pass it... Although at least I made it to the semi-smart level the first time through...
  19. Ok but then why didn't the guy get stopped at the gate? I mean it seems like a this could have easily been avoided. Or do they just not have trouble with people with white beards wearing red often? I guess it just seems like this was poorly handled in all sorts of ways...
  20. Sorta... But isn't it kinda the same idea? I mean wouldn't those people who play the characters walking around the park confuse kids? I'm just kinda wondering what Disney does to ensure that the illusion is preserved. Do they just not let the actors go around the parks or what? I mean wouldn't it be roughly equivalent to a character actor walking around without the character's head on?
  21. Anyone else kinda think it is weird that they only went with 12 people? I mean it would seem to me that you could fairly easily bulk up the arms and put a second set of seats on the back of each of the arms... Double capacity model coming soon? Anyone else think so?
  22. Does the emaciated Santa by the Santa's Mailbox kinda freak anyone else out? Seriously... I mean other than the fact that the whole thing looks like a seedy carnival that is definitely the thing that weirds me out most. BTW anyone know what a Fried Coca Cola is?... I'm completely lost.
  23. I dunno this is kinda one of those classic problems with the commercialization of everything these days... Plus the whole fact that these companies reserve the right to kick you out no matter what. I can see that Disney is kinda trying to protect their own image... I dunno what I really think of them leaning on a guy because he looks like the image that most associate with Santa and chooses to wear red... I mean do we really know the guy wasn't wearing some red plaid or something? I personally kinda have a problem with them leaning on him quite so hard. Beyond that whoever said that they consider Santa a Disney character should have a boot inserted up their sideways. Thats just a load... BTW... This was just making me thing what do the people who have had roles in some of the rides have to do if they want to come to the park? I mean say Rick Moranis wants to come... Oh but won't the kids confuse him with the character he plays in Honey I Shrunk the Audience? Also what of poor Eric Idle who plays the same character in 2 rides... Oh poor guy must not be allowed in the parks. I know it is being silly but seriously does anyone know if Disney actually allows people featured in attractions to visit the park normally?
  24. There was a trial install at one of the parks according to what was written. This will expand that into a more full partnership with coldstone being offered at more parks.
  25. Hmm... Could this potentially be the first sign of further cost cutting? Is it possible that Six Flags may ditch the DC license? All I know is the Justice League looked pretty lonely in Elitches last season. In the visit times when I was in the area I only ever noticed like 1 or 2 kids ever go up to them. Sorry. I really shouldn't add fuel to the fire...
