24 Days of Theme Park Review Videos!
kenshinmac replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That day was amazing... The Cyclone was magnificent. I loved the Spook-O-Rama and Wonder Wheel as well. There were a ton of fun dark rides on the ECT. I honestly can't wait to see the DVD and just hope that 13 will prove to be a lucky number in this case. -
The Official TPR "East Coast/Behemoth Trip" Update

Amazing amazing update. It delayed me getting out the door this morning because I just wanted to see as much as possible. Thanks again to all that were on the trip... Truly I am now a TPR trip addict because of all the fun I had on this trip. Both the shorter trips I did this year were great as well with another amazing group of people. Thanks especially to Robb and Elissa for the amazing organization and generally being willing to put up with all of us weird people I can't wait to see the DVD now... Sadly snow on the ground here now with a little more than 5 months till coaster season in CO again. -
Alton Towers bans speedos!!

Why are people acting like it is a right to wear whatever you want on private property? It is their property and they set the rules. Didn't you notice all the signs saying no gang paraphernalia, no swear words on attire, etc in parks? They can do what they please and it is very likely that they DO get complaints from families when ANYONE wears revealing swimsuits. -
Need advice on Knoebels food

Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich is an absolute must... That combination was amazing. Hot and crispy with cold and creamy just mind blowing. -
Elitch Gardens still has a Chaos... I haven't gotten to ride it this year as it wasn't ready either time I visited but it is still there and they seemed to be prepping it. I would love to know if Elitch Gardens is the only park to go through 2 of the rides... The Six Flags management pulled out the old one and PARC put in a new one. Weird but I love the ride. It is one of my top flat rides.

I admittedly haven't ridden Steel Eel and I have heard it is by far the best from Morgan, but not Morgan... NEVER!!! I have to ask have you ridden Superman/Bizzaro at SFNE, El Toro's first half at SFGAdv, or Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce. Those are truly amazing airtime machines which we rode on ECT last year and riding Steel Force at Dorney afterwards was a complete snooze... It was like riding a really tall Mine Train with absolutely no forces to speak of.

Curses to that piece of wood!!! I had no idea... Love the updates... So much fun in so little time. -
Personally I was holding out hope that they would remove a small portion of the parking and put in a Intamin MegaLite... I honestly don't think Elitch Gardens would ever build a really large coaster although I would love to be proven wrong. A Euro-Fighter would be amazing for the park as would any Intamin airtime machine... Heck anything with airtime please!!! I honestly am still a huge fan of Half Pipe but the downtime seems pretty extreme again this year... I honestly hope that they can get it running more consistently but I don't know if I have high hopes.

Looks like Sunday or Monday to me. Saturday was a bit dryer most of the day. (It was definitely Memorial Day weekend because of the waterpark) BTW Disaster Canyon looks like it isn't ready to run yet... Kinda depressing when Rainbow, Chaos, Thunderbolt and Disaster Canyon haven't run this season yet. Bah! Still they had 2 train ops running pretty well this weekend but is it just me or is Mind Eraser even worse than ever before? I swear the blue train is incredibly painful now. Still I hit Lakeside this weekend as well and they don't have Cyclone up so don't go yet... That was a serious drag.

The Official TPR "East Coast/Behemoth Trip" Update

Not intended as a put down or anything but have you ridden Boulder Dash? I love GCI and have always enjoyed their work but frankly Boulder Dash is such an amazing product of its location it is truly unique and an absolutely amazing airtime machine which isn't what GCI typically build. That said GCI did a masterful job refurbishing Boulder Dash and the change in the last section just makes the most incredible ride moment I have ever encountered. (yes I do refer to the triple up... OMG...) Just to put it simply Boulder Dash is airtime coaster perfection. The first ride will leave you absolutely speechless and it is a good thing because the ride will have taken your breath away. So if you tried to talk you would probably pass out anyway. I will stop there to avoid overselling it... Just trust me ride it... Oh and make sure to ride it after dark because the changes of direction are more of a surprise then. -
MAGIC MOUNTAIN FOR FIRST TIMERS

^I think you mean daughter... I don't see anything about a son in the OPs post. I'm honestly not sure what to say about the request for tips on fast pass... I don't think there is a tip to the Q-bot system except get what you can justify. A Gold Q-bot can make a HUGE difference in what you can ride in a day. I am no expert and haven't experienced MM's setup but on the East Coast trip last year we got on a ton of rides with the Q-bot. Honestly I would say that you shouldn't force your children onto anything but Superman is really not scary at all. Also X2 really didn't seem bad to me but I was easily held in place by the restraints so it might not be as much fun for children if they fit loosely. Frankly I found Tatsu, Batman, and Scream to be the most forceful of the coasters and both Scream and Tatsu had uncomfortable moments for me. -
PTR Lake Compounce opening day
kenshinmac replied to sros1fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I gotta say I enjoyed Boulder Dash MORE than El Toro. IMHO El Toro has a bit of an identity crisis in that it has amazing airtime and turns until it heads into the middle of rolling thunder where it just falls apart IMHO with a series of repetitive turns which kills the thrill of the ride. It is like they just grafted on a different ride entirely and I was just incredibly disappointed when I hit that track the first time. Boulder Dash though is uncompromising in its nature and just an amazing combination of airtime and quick turns. It does what it does amazingly well and never lets up. That hits of airtime in the final stretch are absolute OMG moments the first time you ride it as well. I am so glad it seems they haven't trimmed the ride. -
Yeah so I have been holding off posting until I was fairly sure everything was organized... I think that has happened now... Really excited about this because this will be my first Six Flags Magic Mountain trip. I'm going to be all alone so I would love to wander with some other people. Sadly I won't be able to stay for the evening ERT... Responsibilities suck... But hey I'm gonna be there... BTW should I be able to get all the credits that are open during the day? Will I want to do that? Well I'm looking forward to meeting as many people as possible. See you all there!

I'm glad some other people have posted that they played the original... I was feeling super old. Still I will admit I nearly nerdgasmed at the news... This is seriously exciting stuff given that I loved the concept of the original but found the controls very stiff and unforgiving. I hope it gets the attention it deserves... Although I fear if it releases at $50 people will pass it by. Any chance this engine will be reused for a certain WayForward property due for a resurrection that keeps getting hinted at? Another silly question... Any idea who has the rights to the original now... Could it become a Virtual Console entry before this release?

I don't think words can express how crazy fun that night was. My only regret about that day was that I decided to ride Boulder Dash only during ERT... I feel like I really missed out since I didn't see it during the day. If you are still in contact with the other people running the ride that night please thank them for such a great experience. I will truly NEVER forget that night because everything was truly incredible.

I've been seriously bad about checking the boards for updates this week... I have to admit that Knoebels was awesome. Probably my favorite day of the trip with all the general randomness and crazy rides. I still remember when we were riding Twister talking about the fact that after riding a good version it would be damn hard to go back to the Elitches one. Still makes for really fun memories. (BTW where was the 'Golden Bolt'? I was looking for it and didn't spot it.) Thanks for posting all the great pics. All these memories have been great with the off season upon us. I really want to say thanks again to Robb and Elissa and everyone on the trip. It was insane but awesome! I hope you are all well and that we can meet again soon.

I loved the day but I have to respectfully disagree on Steel Force... It had 0 forces the entire ride. In fact I am not sure the ride actually turned I think instead it relies on the earth to spin beneath it. I felt absolutely no airtime nor did I feel any real thrill from that first hill. Oh and I also must have had a crap ride on Thunderhawk because my spine was screaming at me afterwards. Needless to say I had little desire to re-ride nevermind the fact that the kid in front of me had a giant blob of lift hill lube drop on him while we were in the brakes waiting to get into the station (part of that brake run under the lift was covered but it left a good 3rd of the train uncovered...). Honestly I had a great time a the park despite some other issues. (Waiting for another ride on Steel Force later in the day it died when we got to the station and we were treated to some of the public threatening the crew... Also saw people sneaking through a broken fence from the overflow parking...). Lets just say that it was miles better than the other Cedar Fair experience of the trip who were apparently better than Disney. Someday that will get old... But not today! Oh and the Log Flume there kicks ass!! Plus ERT on Talon was just amazing... I did a ton of rides and the back seats were incredibly fun in the turns at the end.

I always thought that the whole "Bench - the ride" thing started as a way to make fun of people who were sitting out actual rides or as a way to make fun of parks that were lacking in quality rides. I don't think it was originally a reference to a real ride but could be the source of something quite amusing. I would say just make something absurd honestly as long as it has wooden benches it will be a good laugh.

Most memorable coaster moment of 2008?
kenshinmac replied to TheHulk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
17 rides in an hour on Boulder Dash... OMG that coaster is amazing. Oh and Robb and Elissa rock for organizing that ERT for the East Coast trip... Amazing! I would have happily ridden all night. -

I like the update but I feel it is important to point out that Catwoman was NOT a powered coaster. It used wheels to drag it up the lift but otherwise was coasting. Superman was a ton of fun though. The only bad part was those damn ankle bars that were rubbing practically straight on bone after the first lap. -

Nice the Knoebels sign survived Yeah I have nothing else... Where do some of you shop I have never seen anything like the giant mp3 player and earbuds? I still haven't gotten to Magic Mountain... Hopefully I can rectify that this next year. -

Hey look another crap picture of me... Seriously though why was I looking so damn red... NorEaster was a fun ride though... It was especially nice in the morning and started getting that SLC sway going later. Still it kicked the crap out of all the other SLCs on the trip. Did you look down at the Log Flume? It looked like one log managed to jump out of the guide rails in the sunken section of the ride... That might explain why it was down. It looked kinda crazy. -

lol yeah no crowds but the worst operations of the entire trip... It was amazing. I mean I waited with others for about 4-5 trains on Grizzly it took us 30 minutes. Absolutely amazing! Then there was Drop Tower which we walked on and proceeded to wait almost 5 minutes for them to actually start it. I was so disappointed by Kings Dominion... Then they told us how they thought it was as good as Busch Gardens... Glad you are back posting
