Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
kenshinmac replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure if I remember this right but I could have sworn that Stealth used a portion of the station to actually raise the seats into loading position. It has been quite a few years since I rode but I remember seeing some metal cradles rise under a set of wheels that ran along the platforms edge and then the opposite happened in dispatch. Now as I stated I could be wrong but compare the pics on RCDB of X-flight and Stealth and you will see there is an extra set of wheels on Stealth which are set at the middle-point of the car on the outsides. I think that is what I remember seeing engage in the mechanism. Actually looking at the pics of the Carowinds install of Borg it looks like it still has the same cars... Can anyone there confirm my memories of the ride? I'm just kinda wondering if it was all due to it being a prototype as I haven't ridden any of the other installations. Stealth: http://rcdb.com/ig583.htm?picture=9 X-flight: http://rcdb.com/ig920.htm?picture=7 http://rcdb.com/ig920.htm?picture=3 Borg wheelies picture(clearly shows the difference in the cars): http://rcdb.com/ig2514.htm?picture=28 BTW sorry about just posting the links but I don't really want to to force everyone to download the pics... I think it's kinda mean to the owners bandwidth... -

Anyone get a copy yet? I'm kinda trying to decide on whether to get it or not... I'm so tempted but I'm still worried about how deep it is going to be. Parts sound really fun but I'm just not sure about how flexible the building will be. Eh who am I kidding... I'll probably get it anyway... -

It was intended as a joke actually... I guess it wasn't taken as one. Maybe I need to put in a next time... Seriously though I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced. It just comes at kinda a bad time for those of us who are trying to buy our own games... -

Man I hate those sort of statements about "Target Audiences"... Why did you have to say that... Now I feel too old to get the game... I mean seriously I keep feeling older and older and I'm only freaking 25... I mean hell these kids these days... Spoiled with their millions of colors... I remember the amazing rainbow of 25 colors on the NES. Heck when the SNES came out I was in absolute awe of how amazing 256 colors could make characters look. -

Man... I sorta remember when I was 11... Ah good ole AOHell at like 2600baud. 10 minutes to load the simplest of pictures (that nintendo site on AOL took like 20 minutes to load... Blast that rich layout with like 3 pictures and 5 lines of text) . Man it is hard to believe what has happened in like 14 years. It kinda makes you think doesn't it... Oh and looks like fun. I really want to hit knotts again. It has been years and years since my one trip there... -
The 2006 Six Flags Agenda

Wow... Honestly I had no idea things were this bad. It kinda seems like the parks with problems got worse and the parks which were fairly well run got better. I went to Elitch Gardens like 4-5 times this year... Every time it was a joy and it was amazing how much cleaner most of the park was. The only real problem I had with the park was the fact that the rapids ride was closed all but 1 time I was there. That was my only disappointment. Every coaster ran with full trains all the time. Twister 2 which almost always ran with 1 train all the time in previous years was ALWAYS running 2 trains. Load times were very fast on most rides and overall employees seemed to really want to interact with guests. Of course there was the very sad tragedy with the acrobats and the cuts to the entertainment budget of the park but it really has flourished this year. -

Though I feel that in some ways this is an irresponsible kind of post it is nice to see publishers going straight to the fans. It is also kinda exciting to know that TPR is on the radar of a company like Lucas. I guess some of us would be very happy if you guys make a sequel if you come here for feedback or give us a place to go to give feedback. Well all that said onto the questions!! -Can you give us an approximate length of the game? Based on what I have heard about the game it sounds like a lot of it is a story type mode where you keep moving to bigger and better bits of land but with a bit more limited scope than things like RCT3. (whoa that was a long run on sentence)... So I guess what I'm wondering is am I right about the game being mission based more than just open and from that how free are we to continue building if we like a park? -How much space will an average sized save take on the PS2. This is a huge concern as those memory cards still aren't cheap and some games are irresponsibly big. I know Frontier has made console games before so I hope they are being good to the memory cards. -How many different rides/coasters are there. I love different rides and hopefully there will be plenty of variety. -How flexible is placement? Is it like RCT3 where things are on an absolute grid or is it more flexible about placing things at angles? -Last Question for now: Do the coasters all have specific operation types still or can we create wacky off the wall things like a launched woodie? Or heck a shuttle multi-dimensional coaster. At least I hope that there are a number of coasters that support shuttle behavior. Well hopefully I've kept your job interesting... Sorry... Just to get a bit personal if you are gonna be around here: Do you actually ride coasters? Which ones have you been on? If you need a refresher on coasters at certain parks check out rcdb.com which is fairly complete. -
SheiKra to acquire Floorless Trains?
kenshinmac replied to Imhotep's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This still seems a bit far out there to me... I mean if I remember correctly there was a show on coasters that claimed each of Oblivions trains cost in the like quarter to half million dollar range. Seems that replacing each train (each of which is larger than Oblivion's) and then adding the modified station hardware would be a ton of money for little gain. From everything I have heard the whole "reinvented ride" thing has rarely really worked for parks. If my numbers are completely off the wall maybe it is feasible and if you know more about the pricing I would love to know... It just seems like such a huge expense for something that most wouldn't really notice. -
I don't believe the launch pad moves... It is just the shuttle and boosters as far as I know... I mean a mobile launch platform for something with that much thrust would be pretty impractical.
-
Hey if their funding gets cut anymore they just might... Probably won't be cheap though and you will probably have to go through security clearance tests and the like to get there...
-
Hmm... Think Vekoma might win this? A Vekoma headshaker for the Astronauts?... Although perhaps they would use that new style of car... Or maybe an S&S Screaming Squirrel would be ideal... Oh think of it... It almost looks like the cars of the SS. Of course this would likely be faster...

Of course honestly this will look really good to the vast majority of the public... I mean the most common thing I hear from people at parks is cooing about how many times a coaster "goes upside down." Lets face it BPB is really lacking on the inversion front(heck this will increase the coaster inversions by what 500%). Plus inverts are still very exciting to the vast majority of people. So honestly this will probably be a huge boon for the park. I just hope this isn't the start of a trend... C'mon UK TPRers you need to push your government to preserve those rides as they are largely unique. Especially in such a small area that is truly unique.

TR: Elitch Gardens
kenshinmac replied to WildStangAlex's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would have to say no... I rode it last Saturday... Man that thing was evil as usual. Super pain wherever it hits the chain lift plus the uncomfortable feelings throughout the ride of random bumps... I dunno how people can say it is smooth. Beyond that I also don't see how people get so uncomfortable on things like HalfPipe and Mind Eraser... Maybe it is just my height but I don't really have any problems with those rides. -
Instant Messenger Icons Should Now Work!
kenshinmac replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know this is getting amazingly picky but is there a way we could hide these based on user preferences? It kinda ruins the layout for my window because some people have so freaking many buttons on the bottom of their posts that it blows completely past the edge of the drawn window of the posts. I know most people run with a landscape shaped window because Windows seems to push users in that direction but on my Mac I love portrait style browser windows and this just kinda looks ugly. I guess honestly another way to fix this would be to move the friend and ignore stuff to someplace else... It is just that area under a post is super cluttered as is now. Oh and I hope people will forgive me for not putting up my IM names because I get enough SPIM on my freaking MSN name as is... At least it is a little less painful now but there was a point where I was getting 30+ messages a day advertising someones pic sites... Now it is down to 1-4 every week. -
Cirque Phantasmagorie

Honestly... I watched it a while ago... It was really cool... For like 5 minutes... Honestly cut it down... A TON... I was terribly bored by the end. If you could compress an intro to the ride down to something like 15-20 seconds then have fewer of the long corridors then it would have been better overall. The best parts of the ride were the sections where it was going up and down because they were very creatively done. The long corridors were just tedious and overly repetitive... Now please don't misunderstand me. It was amazing work. I just think that it would have been far more powerful if you made it more of a bang rather than drag it on. I mean very few horror themes that you just watch work when they go on too long. -
My guess is you wouldn't do it because the only thing you get at Elitches is a pass to the front of the Brutal Planet line... I've never known that to be more than like 10 minutes anyway so why? Besides the rest of your group would have to do it too... I have to say the Elitch Gardens promo for this is lame... Of course I would be pissed if people were skipping in front of me a lot on most rides...

Most forceful coaster you've been on.
kenshinmac replied to kingdanny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You know I think I heard that Titan was basically a Goliath clone but with the extra upward helix... If my ride was any indication the upwards helix before the MCBR is much more mean than the helix past the MCBR. I have honestly never felt uncomfortable with sustained G-forces on a coaster before that moment... It really hurt... One of the few times I've gotten off a coaster and not wanted to go again. -

Six Flags Over Texas' Titan... The upwards helix of OUCH... But honestly the most scared of forces I have ever been was when I was on TopGun at PGA and I actually got tunnel vision on the final helix... Scared the crap out of me... Went on later in the day when it was a bit cooler and I was fine. (Granted it hit like 110F that day so it might have been the heat) -

Make sure you compress your pictures into jpg format using a program like paint. Just open it and select saveAs and select JPEG/JPG I think and it will save it in JPEG. If that isn't the problem just say and I will see if I can further help. Also make sure to reduce the size of your pics so they are around 800x600 which can be done using the scale/resize in most image editors. -

Is it legal for them to run the ride like that? I don't know the laws for amusement rides but wouldn't that make the restraints less than effective? -

ROTFLOL... Oh man that was great... Especially all the little errors that I am sure were completely intentional. The great misspelling on the final title and the fact that ride 24 came before 20...
