California Great America (CGA) Discussion Thread

A more accurate representation of the current situation would be for me to have said "you are sure the HOA has an agreement in place." I should have added that this hypothetical home of yours is a dream property of yours (which is essentially what this office complex is: close to freeway, hotels, airport in the heart of Silicon Valley) besides the fact it is close to a theme park. And you already paid a huge amount for it. I suspect Cedar Fair will be sure they comply with the agreement from the beginning. I can't imagine a repeat of this. -
Funniest Ride Experiences

The infamous Dizzy Bear ride featured on our visit to the "ghetto carnival" was lots of fun! We didn't even realize we were spinning for a good 30 seconds after the ride cycle was over. -

USH wasn't too bad at all either...probably because they don't have fireworks, so everyone went elsewhere for the day. -

Lets say you buy a house next to a theme park because you are under the assumption your homeowners association has an agreement with the theme park to keep noise to an acceptable level...and then the theme park goes and exceeds those noise levels to the point it disrupts your life. Do you just go "oh well, I made this choice," or do you say "hey, wait a minute...you guys aren't living up to your end of the deal?" -

^4th of July weekend=pretty safe bet it will be packed. -
Scuds was great, but a 4-year contract for someone his age at 3.375mil/year is tough to swallow under the new CBA. Unfortunately. Hopefully Mitchell's recovery is still on track. Penner & Richardson can be replaced by Toffoli & Pearson/Vey if they go.

Mondial getting in on the Starflyer action now too? Can't wait to see pictures.

Grizzly is horribly pointless, but quite frankly---it works perfectly as a "gateway ride." It's so boring kids can easily conquer and get the confidence to hit other rides. -

^Most employees at players club desks have no idea about anything until you ask and then they have to look it up in their system. They usually just point you in the direction of an employee from the department that would know (When I was in town for EDC, it took 4 employees to find the I Dream of Jeanie slot machine my friend wanted to play). -
^^Political beliefs aside, I think it is because Hockey (and baseball) are the two sports that value tradition the most. Even if two players hated each others guts, they would still do the post-series handshake, so why is this any different? Champions meeting the president is a time honored tradition in the U.S.

The most recent ride I hated was The Beast. So over rated its ridiculous. I thought the whole ride was boring and annoyingly rough.

Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

I would like nothing more for than it to be successful. I just feel the long term viability is questionable based on how things are currently: dealing with the fair board, going down to the wire on financing, not owning the land & the Governors comments about other developments, etc... I really hope I'm wrong, as I don't have those credits yet and would love nothing more to have another awesome park to add to my list of places I have to visit! -

^^I didn't even take that into account when thinking about it's long term chances of success. Now I'm even more doubtful. Has Ed Hart addressed that at all? -

Love the themeing! More parks should have nice splash battles. -

I have no doubt the first few years will be successful...but I really wonder what the future is once the initial excitement wears off. In a market that was far less competitive when he last owned the park, he had to resort to spending lots of capital on new rides to sustain what he had built. Now he has more competition to worry about and may have to keep taking on debt (or ask for more from the state) to sustain the park. -

^^Or the overlays are just the cheapest way to ensure he's meeting the minimum capital outlay... I definitely think he will give it his best shot---I just don't feel that it will be successful in the long term. Not with having to rely on tax credits, financing, and having to deal with the fair board.
