  1. Sea World should be looking to upgrade their behind the scenes/VIP tour options. Those don't cost that much and make a ton of money. The phrase "penny wise and pound foolish" definitely applies to the theme park industry. As does "you have to spend money to make money."
  2. Tarps are starting to go up around the structure, so we'll find out soon enough!
  3. ^ and ^^ That's the key to fresh food in theme parks: you still have to be able to make it quick enough (frying it) or in large enough quantities (giant skillets @ Dollywood) that you can still sell enough to make a profit. People don't want to wait a long time for their food when visiting a theme park.
  4. ^I think that is it. Raging Waters hasn't added anything for awhile either, nor has Soak City. I think all three parks attract enough of their local audiences to make money without the need for a "ride war" to build attendance.
  5. The one at Schlitterbahn was pretty insane, though there was a big logjam of people doing everything they could to wait by the wave machine to catch it right away.
  6. ^Or they also realized the ride side of the park was a sinking ship...
  7. ^^Do we have an HHN thread for this year yet? This was a flier that apparently came with the DVD...confirming the maze for both coasts.
  8. http://www.ushforums.com/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F46-halloween-horror-nights-2013%2Fpage-11 First HHN maze announcement...announced via DVD packaging
  9. http://www.ushforums.com/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F46-halloween-horror-nights-2013%2Fpage-11 Found in the DVD packaging
  10. That, GhostRider, and Beast make up my bottom 3 wooden coasters. All terrible!
  11. What are the odds his cart would flip and he would land right on a support column? Crazy.
  12. Good to see USJ turned around the ride so quick and is doing good business!
  13. I'm guessing it will be built to withstand a hurricane of Sandy's strength.
  14. ^To be fair, those fresh items are actually pretty fresh---they're made in the parks production kitchens and delivered fresh to the restaurants. USH has the "international cafe," which gets deliveries of freshly made packaged sandwiches 2-3 times a day.
  15. Sounds like the pilot screwed up the approach. Was too high and too fast and tried to correct. The ILS was down for maintenance, so it had to be a visual approach.
  16. SFA has Superman and Wild One. The rest of the park is not even worth it. I've never even been to Hershey Park, but I would second Larry's recommendation!

    Guide to Tokyo

TPR put together a great guide: http://www.themeparkreview.com/japan2004/japanguide1.htm My advice...just get out at a different train station each night and explore!
  18. ^Understandable, but a big loss to the show. Thankfully the show isn't a "one trick pony," so everyone should still enjoy the show!
  19. A funny thing happens when you monitor costs too closely: it ends up costing you more in the long run. Lets say you only staff Kraken to run one train and then end up busier than expected, then what do you do? You either have the cost of recovering that upset guest or the cost of bringing in extra staff/overtime to get the ride back up to capacity. Or worse yet, God forbid if a cost cutting measure leads to a mistake that causes a serious accident.
  20. ^Perhaps that was due to not seeing a return on their investment?
  21. Sounds like the pilot came in low and clipped the sea wall. Glad so many people actually survived!
  22. It's definitely one of the most amazing theatrical scenes out there. From what I read on another forum: the cables are replaced every 6 months and checked twice a day, so this has to be a very freak occurrence.
  23. Good thing India has lots of close by tech support---because they'll be needing it! GIB's are a great concept, but by all accounts---very unreliable.
  24. Kings picked up Schultz...here's hoping he'll get back to his +50 form if he wants to stay in the NHL!
