The Official Nintendo Wii Discussion Thread

^ Now I'm no fan of Gran Turismo or racing games in general, but I think it is a bit over-the-top to call it "boring". It's only sold six gazillion copies so that's got to be interesting to a bit more than a few people and better than being labeled "boring". Plus calling the other franchises best games "boring" is what a fan boy would say anyway. -

Anybody care about the current steroid issues?
TheArchfiend replied to Jon Sabo's topic in Random, Random, Random
I just found a transcript between two major league players from the Cleveland Indians regarding steroids: Cerano: "Steroids... I like them very much... But they no help hit curve ball" Harris: "Are you trying to say that steroids can't hit a curveball?" Dorn: "Geez, Harris! Don't start a steroid war!" Harris: "Wouldn't leave them steroids just sitting around with a group like this!" (Ha ha ha) Cerano: "Is very bad to steal Jobu's steroids. Very bad." Harris: "Si si Peed-ro" Now I think that transcript speaks volumes about just how much of a joke the steroid policy is in MLB. I think all of Pedro Cerano's home run records should be wiped out of the record books because of the above locker room discussion. -

I think I spend at least 85% of my time at work posting on boards such as this one to pass the time. And I get paid. In money. American Dollars. Large denomanation bills. Unmarked. On Friday's. The day after Thursday. Two days after hump day. -
What is your Favorite Ice Cream Flavor?...
TheArchfiend replied to Movieguy's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well, since I'm Vegan and don't eat ice cream I still have a favorite from my "evil" years. I like... Turkey Hills: Vanilla w/Peanut Butter Swirl. Of all the things I miss the most of it would be that ice cream and the McDonalds bacon egg and cheese biscuit. In fact, if I was ever on death row... that's exactly what I would order. Mmmmm... I'm hungry. -

I think it's so hard to equally compare Nintendo to Sony. Nintendo, to me, has always had the better looking graphics and brighter colors in every generation of cosole ranked against it's rivals. Where I feel the real BIG difference's are lies in what each compnay does with it's product. Sony seems sought to make money more so than anything else. This can be seen in: Buying exclusive rights to gaming (EA Sports) Creating a greater scope of gaming that is more than just family friendly(Playboy, GTA, God of War), Console price of still $150 and the $600 price tag of the PS3. Nintendo knows full well they could make more money by buying exclusive rights, keeping their console price higher than $100, and make more gore type games that are the hot sellers today. BUT they don't. I give them props for that. Nintendo make's enough to keep every type of gamer happy that buys their system. They have a few title's like Resident Evil for the gore fans and Mario titles for anyone in the family to enjoy. And from the looks of the Wii they are showing that they are more than just interested in the core unit being a super-processing gaming/graphic machine and spend more time trying to create a "funner" way to play the standard game that we are all used to. Now Nintendo wants to make money too and trust me they do. Their handhelds make money that Sony only wishes it could make with the PSP. Saying that, it seems as if the company knows their home console could be much more of a cash making machine but they don't have to "sell out" and mimic the game line-up of their competitors to do so. They have more than enough revenue off their hand-held division to pad a financial hit that their console units may incur. If you ask me, Nintendo has been the only game maker/company that has ever been consistently unique since it's conception. I won't buy the Wii cause it doesn't seem to look like it will please my particular gaming pallet. But that by no means makes it a lesser system to the PS3 or 360. -
Got an interesting or even somewhat amusing or unique tidbit? Post it here. Here are a few to get this puppy started: Average life span of a major league baseball: 7 pitches. The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days of yore when the engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases. The airplane Buddy Holly died in was the "American Pie." (Thus the name of the Don McLean song.) Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history. Spades - King David; Clubs - Alexander the Great; Hearts - Charlemagne; and Diamonds - Julius Caesar. 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321 Clans of long ago that wanted to get rid of their unwanted people without killing them used to burn their houses down-hence the expression "to get fired." Hershey's Kisses are called that because the machine that makes them looks like it's kissing the conveyor belt. (Actually, I'd heard that it was because of the sound the machine makes everytime it shoots out a block of kisses; it's a smacking sound like an exaggerated kiss.) The name Jeep came from the abbreviation used in the army for the "General Purpose" vehicle, G.P. The highest point in Pennsylvania is lower than the lowest point in Colorado. The only two days of the year in which there are no professional sports games (MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL) are the day before and the day after the Major League All-Star Game.

How can the words "nice" and "bag of crap" go in the same sentence? Thats like saying; "I got caught in the middle of a hillarious gun fight this morning." Now a bag of Poptarts... that's nice! A hillarious morning Poptart fight... that's even nicer!

Did you know the tooth brush was invented in West Virginia...? Yeah, if it was invented anywhere else it would have been called the TEETH brush.

Wow, that is actually hella-cool!! I thought it was going to be lame as hell when I clicked on the subject. You gotta keep posting update photos as your building continues. You should get a little bull head to stick on the front of the coaster to make it look more authentic. Then you can get an anatomically correct bull to stand in front of the que just like in real life.

Just remember one thing, for those of you that are old enough to remember... THE POWERGLOVE!! This was a glove controller for the NES that you put over your right hand and it sensed your hand/arm movements. Also, it had about twenty buttons on it as well. It looked so f'ing cool in the commercials and was released in 87' (I'm pretty sure) right before Christmas. It took me one day of playing it for me, and many others, to take it back. It's pretty bad when you try and use this in Mike Tyson's Punch Out and you keep getting owned by the first Piston Honda and if you're real good you could make it up to fight King Hippo. I remember the commercial for the Powerglove showed some guy fighting Sodapop Zinski... pfft, as... if. Granted, technology has advanced tremendously since 87' but I still wouldn't buy some new concept controller before its release just cause it looks "cool or amazing". -

Did they announce the price of the Wii yet? They refused to mention or even hint it's cost at E3 and thats the last I heard about it. I'm sure it will be the cheapest of the 3 or atleast on par with XBOX. -

Yeah, that too. But if the PS3 takes off like Russian space rocket (not the American space shuttle) then its game over for HD DVD. Probably. I remember hearing that same thing before the PS2 launch. But yes, this unit is a tad over priced for the next gen consoles. I still think many will find a way to pay the $600 for it and make Sony the new ruler of the cosmos. -

^ It's possible BluRay can flop. Like Wes said... You will need a hi-def tv plus a high quality sound system to get the full expeience of all that extra media on a BluRay disc. Most won't have a hi-def tv or not care if their picture on the screen was crisper. Many may just end up being content with what they got on their regular non-hi def televisions right now. For me, I want the extra clarity on the screen and in the audio. I take my TV/movie watching to the upmost. Many people may not which could prove to be a potential problem for BluRay formated games/DVDs. -

I just wasn't havent fun with it compared to FF7. Granted, not much is better than FF7 and I didn't expect this game to be. I just got bored with it. Plus I think the gunblade is the stupidest concept in the history of history. -
Technically.... worst line ever shouldn't automatically mean the longest line you waited in. Which is why I'm going with Batman The Ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in 1995. A fight broke out right in front of me and my friends with line cutters and the guards that checked the tickets to prevent such acts. The line cutters were so totally caught red handed as their numbered tickets were about 200 higher than our groups tickets. The guards asked them to step aside and wait till numbered tickets were in sequence with the other riders. OK, fair enough... they could have been expelled from the park but the guards were being generous this day and allowing them to just wait an extra 10-15 minutes. Think the line cutters (5 of um') liked that idea? Hell no. They argued and escalated into a full fledged brawl in front of us with the unarmed park guards (2) which led to the incoming of the parks armed guards along with their profanity coupled in with the line cutters. It was such a cluster-f*** as it was right at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the station. Luckily no one waiting in line was hurt. The line cutters were pulled out and handcuffed behind the Batman station as the emergency exit to behind the ride was right there. That was the day I realized that my childhood and early teen "fun days" at Great Adventure were over. I think the park has progressively gotten worse each year in many aspects and better in some to be fair. The thing that really pisses me off about this the most is that these people were in their 30s not some punk teens skipping class that you would envision doing this. On top of that, they were talking to my friends and I during the 2 hour wait for the ride and they seemed like they were very decent people. We were all so shocked that they went so F'ing ballistic over something so petty. WTF is a matter with the world these days? So yeah... that was the worst line ever.
