Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
TheArchfiend replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This may have been brought up somewhere along the other 88 pages but; does anyone else feel this is the last coaster they could possibly fit in this park? I mean, unless they build something entirely over water they are not going to be able to fit another large coaster in the park. Now that I'm thinking about it... I guess they could always fill in some of the lake water with truckloads of dirt for extra acreage. That would be one hell of an undertaking though. Costly and time consuming but possible. I hope this coaster is a good one cause it may be their last one for some time to come. -

Man, they didn't even ask any of the good questions like... Q: Does this ride suck? A: Well... uhh... next question. -

Po'TC DMC: First one was better. The last half of the film was more of a set-up for the third film. I don't like Johnny Depp or Disney made films but I liked the first installment of this series so I went to see the second as well. It is suprisngly "adult" for an Disney adult movie. The action sequecences were funny and captivating but a little bit too cartoonish (no Disney pun inteded) compared to Black Pearl. Disney usually tries to avoid any clear kill or actual body harm with any implement of destruction but those days are gone with the first two movies in this series. Disney is growing up into more of a company that makes movies for kids to a company that makes movies that are enjoyable by all adults as well. If you like action movies, you will like this. That should have been the same for the movie Pearl Harbor but we all know what Disney did to that movie. Fortunantly, I've never seen that flick. I hear I'm not missing out on much. I don't however feel this is a movie worthy of the 6 BAZZILLION dollars it is making. It's a rightful blockbuster and all but to be breaking box office records left and right... it aint that good.

Yup, they sure do... CAMERAS - For safety reasons, cameras are forbidden on all rides except the Big Wheel, Sky Ride and Carousel. You'd think they didn't mind at all if you look at the onride photos that come back with cameras on every tenth persons hand. Full list of policies for Great Adventure HERE <---

WHAT!? PS2's are in schools now for leisure usage!? When did this happen!? I heard some schools using DDR for phys. ed. but PS2's for use at lunch breaks!? Sorry for the double post.
-
Yeah, I have noticed more faulty to not working at all DDR cabs at pretty much every arcade I visit nowadays. I've never player ITG in the arcade but have the home version. I got it on sale on Black Friday with two brand new pads from Best Buy for $20!! I played it and noticed that both the length and technique of the songs were different than DDR. I guess I'm just too stubborn to change. I'm not at the point of acing all the 9-10 footers yet, But I am close. I am getting to the point that most of the Heavy songs are not that challenging anymore and I have 4 home versions of the game to pick heavy songs from. I haven't even played ITG in about 4-5 months now. I haven't even unlocked everything yet. The game just struck me as graphically inferior and the additions of skill just seemed like they were tweeking a game/concept that was fine as it was. I don't know, I'm sure I'll pull it one of these days and play it again. I still play the DDR games several times a week and they're staring to get very stale.

^^^ Ahhh... that's much better. Nothing like a good ol' picture of some Shark Smut. -
^ Yup, I use the same logic with the varrying speeds depending on the BPM's. Dude, I try songs on heavy that I get AA's on and once I put it back to regular speed I fail in like 30 seconds. It is so hard to untrain your brain once you get used to ampimg up the speed mods. Did you ever play DDR Extreme 2? I had a hell of a time unlocking some songs on Dancemaster mode as you have to pass varrying tasks in that mode to unlock certain songs. I ended up Game Sharking it cause it got to frustrating to try and learn how to do heavy songs with no speed mods adjustment. Edit: By the way, do you really like ITG? I got it and just can't get into it much at all. Just curious as to why you like it. Maybe you can convice me that it really is decent.

SFGadv NJ.....Pt.2

Fright Fest gets hella-packed at Great Adventure. It always makes me wonder what causes so many people to flock to the park for Frigth Fest. The only time I went to Fright Fest and that the crowds were manageable was when it was a very cold and rainy day. But with that you have a coaster like Ka that closes if one drop of rain falls in a thousand mile perimeter of the park. ALL coasters are usually packed ques for FF. I'd bring something warm to wear as its gets colder just standing there waiting in lines all night. On a side note, the Fridays during FF are less packed since the park opens at 4 or 5pm. You actually get in more or the same amount of rides on a less packed Friday at FF then spending all day there on Saturday or Sunday for FF. Also, be ready to put up with rowdy teens as the park will be packed with them during FF. For the most part, it's still a fun time. -

Against Leather and Animal Testing !!!!

I must be one of the only vegans in the world that doesn't agree with PETA, much at all. I'm against the eating of any animal flesh or the killing of any animal. PETA acts like it should make a differance that some animals execution for product should be done humanely? Why? It's gonna die either way. If I was a wearer of leather or eater of meat I wouldn't be the slightest bit concerened if they put a bullet in my steers head or slowly bled him to death to put my steak on my plate or jacket on my back. I've seen numerous pamphlets and website stories from PETA regarding the cruel treatement of animals such as cows and chickens on the farms showing their horrible living conditions before they are sent to the slaughter house. And? What is that supposed to mean? Is PETA trying to say that a species rasied only for immenant TERMINATION is supposed to be raised nicely? Oh PETA, you make me wonder sometimes. -
May I suggest that you speed up the arrows to atleast 2x normal speed when you move into standard of higher modes. It may sound crazy but it helps a lot of people do more difficult songs better. I for one can't do anything under 2x normal speed cause I've gotten so used to the arrows moving that quickly. And once you get the hang of 1/8 notes you will be amazed what you can do without even thinking about it. Kinda like your feet just move without telling them to.

^ Texas is only known for two things... steers and... I forget what the other thing was. But it wasn't roller coasters. I dont think any of the parks would suffer in Ohio now that Cedar fair owns all the main ones within the state. Six Flags owns every major theme park in the entire northeast above the Mason Dixon line with the exception of Dorney Park in Allentown, PA. All Six Flag's parks seem to get decent rides/coasters with no major theme park competitor, other than their own parks, for 500 to 1000 miles away. -

I doubt they will sweat that. They have the resources to build a greater version of the ride and probably will somewhere along the line. If bringing the ride down because the threat for future injuries can occur than I don't see how you can't keep that ride functional. Plus the bad rep. it gets isn't exactly causing people to flock to the park. Cedar Fair wants money a lot more then they want the record breaking wooden coaster that the majority of the people that ride it compalin about. -

Many said the same thing about what was then the worlds tallest wooden roller coaster (in the early thru mid 90s); Hercules at Dorney Park, and then Cedar Fair bought the park and tore that ride down. That ride was rough as all hell but no one is complaining as Hydra is now on its former plot of land. -
Nice pics! I love the duct tape action on some of those machines. In America they don't even go that far to service a beaten/used machine. I wouldn't say DDR is dying in the U.S. just yet as DDR SuperNova is just getting introduced into the mainstream arcades. Plus the next gen. console versions are starting to come out in the U.S. starting with the 360 in October. But it's definantly not as popular as it used to be... except at my house where I still stomp till the cows come home.

I smell bad karma. I think Cedar Fair smells it too. They should get rid of a ride like this. Granted, I've never rode it but about 8 out of every 10 opinions I've heard have not been flattering. Rides like this are a potential liability and should be replaced with more fun and safer rides. I know I loved my Viper at Great Adventure but will admit that it was one rough motha' that was becoming a potential injury liability for the park. So, I can't argue it's banishment from the park. -
Overlooked Parks
TheArchfiend replied to xascher's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Is it just me or does the name "lagoon" not fit Utah at all? I mean, lagoons are found in warm weather tropical climates like The Caribean and Delaware. Also, without Mormons we would not have that great John Smith epsiode of South Park. And having 50 wives cant be all that bad. Just imagine all the great wedding gifts one would have! WOW! -
So was the last elected Governor of New Jersey, Jim McGreevy. Edit: Thanks for pointing out my error person below

Yup... nope. Should I actually do some work here today instead of posting on boards like this?

^^ Or better yet... test and experiment on death row inmates. Have them serve some good to humanity before we kill them. And if they die during the experiments or tests... oh well. They were going to be killed anyway. -
It's about time Great Adventure got some decent theming. I wonder how much it costs to have that lightning effect strike Skull Mountain all the time? That is Disney quality stuff.
