Yeah, I stayed up to watch some of it, awesome as always.

I so bummed I missed it and don't have DVR, hopefully it'll be up on Youtube by the time I get home tomorrow from work. I've always really liked the cheesiness of the opening ceremonies.

I filled up at $3.93 at the "super cheap" gas station (an ARCO) and I almost died from happiness.

Worried about riding Mantis
RCFreak replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just remember they do actually adjust the heights of the seats at Cedar Point (or at least they did...) so don't leave it too low or they may raise it higher then you would like. My trick is to stand-up with my knees completely straight in the station and pull the seat up all the way up, then slightly bend your knees. This should bring the seat down just a bit and wait until the seats lock then push it down to lock it in place. Keep your knees slightly bent (but not to the point where you are more sitting then standing, again they should be checking for this sort of thing and will re-adjust your seat height) then stand up straight once you're on the lift. This method should ensure you are still in the proper riding position yet have a bit of room for your boys and not have to be re-adjusted by a ride host. Also, if for whatever reason you do pass out on the ride, this will make sure you stay put until you arrive back into the station. Of course I also have never had my nuts hurt by a stand-up and love Mantis way more then Riddler's so take my advice with a grain of salt from someone who worked the ride. -
That's right, and I'm almost positive the old one wasn't Vekoma either. However, the one in Disneyland Paris IS a Vekoma, so they may have meant that. I'm not sure if any of the other BTM rides are vekoma, but the two in the US are not. I don't even understand where that information came from. RCDB doesn't say vekoma, and I know that the one in WDW was made by MAPO, part of disney. The same company that made WDW's Space Mountain. Hong Kong's Space Mountain is listed as Vekoma so who knows. Also, Disneyland Paris' Big Thunder is in fact a Vekoma, so it's easy to just assume the others were as well (which they are not, but that's not the point lol).

If you want to play with inflation then it would need over 1.4 billion domestically to be #1 over Gone with the Wind. It still has a long way to go in it's life in theatres, but the numbers are still fun to watch.

1. The Dark Knight Weekend Total $ 43.8 Million Total Domestic Gross $ 394.9 Million Wow... Just wow. It took Titanic about three months to reach the $400m mark and it's taken TDK about 18 days. Do any of yout hink it will top Titanic's domestic gross of 600m?

uh, just remember you ARE being charged international rates with these calls.

^Exactly! While I don't like the price hikes, I don't hate them either. And at a park like Disneyland where it is mostly locals that support the place, you can still get a So-Cal select annual pass (good for 170 pre-selected days) for $134 so it's not like loaclas only have the $400 option to get into the park more then a few times. As opposed to the ones I'm talking about who try to push passed you since they have a premium pass and feel entitled, regardless that you have one too. Yell and curse at the ride hosts (definitely disrupting my day) because "It's not the way Walt would have done it" or "there was a piece of trash in the queue" that there "little angel" just threw down, or "The line was too long" or "it's too hot" or "*insert animatronic* was a half milisecond off, ruining my ride" and demanding to go again? And yeah, sadly all of the above and more is what I have encountered over the two years that I had my pass. To you maybe, but I can think of many other Disney boards with twice as many people as this site that say otherwise. They also say the same thing about big roller coasters. Not everything in life is going to be geared toward you and I would hope you don't assume that if you don't like something or the "magic" wore off for you that it will for everyone else.
-
^ Be glad you don't know the Disneyland AP crowd too well. I'd take the so called "riff-raff" over the pASS HOLders any day. Imagine the worst stereotypical ACE member, times 3 and you have a lot of the people that own premium passes to the park. It really doesn't effect me either way, I knew I couldn't afford to renew my pass this year so I didn't as I'd rather have that $400 go else where for now. I'll probably get a new pass sometime in the next year and I'll happily pay for whatever they are asking as long as they keep up the maintenance of the park and continue to add great things (attractions, shows, and parades) that are worth my money.

^^ You should go, it's a really fun place, and they have really, really good mini golf! The rides are pretty standard county fair rides, but it's still a fun place to go if you're in the area (or looking for more credits) ^ & ^^^ nothing big planned until later this year when I head off to NYC and SFGAdv for my birthday in September, and I may have something after that, but nothing too close to you guys this year. Next year may look good though, we'll see.

^Yes you can, in fact I recommend getting fastpasses for Space and Indy as soon as you get there and as soon as you can get another fastpass. Splash mountain you can actually use the single rider line during the day and not have to wait long. If you want to do Peter Pan, I suggest heading there first and getting the Space fast pass next as the line can build fast and stay long all day and night. You can also get fastpasses at DCA at the same time you have some for Disneyland (even if your disneyland ticket says you still have to wait to get another fastpass) I recommend getting one for Soarin' first thing, Tower next, and all the other rides that offer it also have single rider lines (very useful on California Screamin' and Grizzly, especially if it's hot and the lines are long)

^Hey, there's plenty of good skiiing in Southern California out in Big Bear and that's not too far from LA. But yeah, no snow to really worry about. When I was in Newcastle in June of 2005 the temperatures were pretty comparable winter-wise. So I would just bring whatever you normally wear during winter there to wear over here. The first week of January is usually still busy as that's the last of Winter Holidays for most schools. The only other day to really worry about would be Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan 19, 2009. It's a three day weekend so while it will get busier, it shouldn't get too crazy. A few rides will be down while you're over, but it's usually only one or two at a time and spread out, so it's not like half the parks shut down at one time. The Grand Canyon from Los Angeles is about an 8 hour car ride (494 miles / 795 kilometers) to the South Rim in Arizona. Las Vegas is about 4 hours (270 miles/ 435 kilometers) from Los Angeles and 4-5 hours from the Grand Canyon (278 miles / 447 kilometers). LA to San Francisco can either be a 7-8 or 9-10 hour drive depending on which highway you take (The scenic route up The Pacific Coast Highway will take much longer then driving through the farmland on Interstate 5)

Castle Park to open Dragon Flyers!
RCFreak replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I put these pics in my TR, but I know some of you would like to see them too. The Flying Scooter's are open (and FUN!) and the track work for the tiny coaster is done. All that looks to be needed is some staion work. At least I doubt much more then that would actually be done to change the ride from "Pole Positions" and a Nascar theme to "Scremin' Demon" with a most likely midevil-ish theme. I didn't take my camera, so the pcis are from my phone. Taken a little earlier in the day from the outside of the park. the coaster is just to the left, you can see Merlin's Revenge further back. Despite the orange glow, the only lights for the ride are the blue neon lights ones casting a cool blue tone over the whole ride. Old themeing will probably be changed as the wwebsite says the ride will be called Screamin' Demon As you can see, it's a Fabrri Spinning Madness 30m not the 40m like RCDB says (and I hoped) Track work is done, it looks like a cute ride. -
Very Mini Update from today. Castle Park in Riverside has been the small park I grew up with. While trips to Disneyland were every few years, we would usually head out to Castle Park at least once a year. Now part of the mega Parque Reunidos family, the park is adding two ride this year. One has already opened and is a Larson 8 tub Flying Scooters themed to Dragons, while the second is the Screamin' Demon (according to their website) which is a Fabbri Spinning Madness (it's the cute little 30 Meter model despite what RCDB says) and it's nearing completion. The track work is done as far as I could tell and a few pieces from the station were missing, so it shouldn't be much longer before the ride actually opens. We got there around 8 and purchased our unlimited ride bands, which they're currently running a promotion that if you purchase a regular priced wristband for $25 you get the rest of the summer free until September 14. We took a spin on Fireball (Larson Fire Ball), Dragon Flyer (Larson Flying Scooters), Merlin's Revenge (a new credit for me, and a Vekoma Junior Coaster 207m), Dragon's Tower (S&S Power Double Shot), and the Tilt-a-Whirl (Sellner Tilt-A-Whirl) A good day for only being their abotu an hour and a half. I apologize about the pictures, but I forgot my camera at home so i used my phone. This is going to change? Looks very small but it may be a lot of fun From the outside of the park you can see the track is done

PortAventura Discussion Thread
RCFreak replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Essentially yes, S&S towers do employ four hydraulic dampers per tower that while preventing imminent death of the riders, really won't do much to prevent substantial injury should all four cables happen to fail. -

Dude, that Cartoon thing is harder then I thought it would be, but I did my best and I think I did ok for my first time lol. I have a few minor gripes though, and it's mainly that all the body parts don't have the same colors to choose from (look at the legs compared to the rest of the skin tone I choose) and the straight complete arm didn't even have color options so I had to go with the bent arm. Also, I would think it's a bit too easy to just go and delete other people's saved files. The tutorial was a bit cheesy but fun as well, so a great job to you and you're friend on that one and the whole game itself. Oh, and congrats on so many views to your comics! Not the best, but I can always try again later -

mmmmm Dragon Bar Zombie! One of those deadly drinks like an Adios Mother F***er, Long Island Iced tea, Tokyo Tea, etc... that usually take two or three (if done right) to knock me off my feet. WAAAAAAAH I'm sad I wasn't able to make it this year on the trip, but the parks visited look fantastic and most of all FUN! Just looking at the pics makes me remember all the great times on all the messed up things that you just can't do in the US. -
I'm definitely going to have to agree and Scooby-doo's dark ride section was amazing for a dark-ride and coaster. As for regular roller coasters, I think I'll go with any GCI's pre-lift those are always fun.
