Favorite attraction never made?
tinaalsgirl replied to Themonerd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of my favorite concepts that never happened was the "Enchanted Forest" expansion of Epcot's UK Pavilion that would have incorporated Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, and Robin Hood. http://www.omniluxe.net/wyw/uk.htm Also on my list of favorites that I can only hope may one day happen is the concept of an indoor coaster at Silver Dollar City themed to an ice factory: -

No Patriot OR Mamba? That severely depletes my interest in checking this out this year.... -
Best Theme Park Show You Have Seen.
tinaalsgirl replied to methos's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
*The Saloon Show (SDC - I like all iterations of it, but a few years ago when Dave Wallace was playing Fabian, he sang "You Make Me Love You" and directed it at my friend and it was honest-to-god the best performance I've ever seen at my 20+ years of going to the park; he's so freaking talented! He's also excellent as Scrooge in SDC's rendition of A Christmas Carol) *Listen to the River (SDC - wish they'd do a revival of this one) *It's A Wonderful Life (SDC - First Season cast - my friends and I went to see it twice in one day, we loved it so much! And I've never really been a huge fan of the movie) *Finding Nemo: The Musical (WDW: AK) *Festival of the Lion King (WDW: AK) *Wishes (WDW: MK) -
Because I suffer from severe Anxiety, I can't do the whole "jump out and scare you" thing; additionally, I have a HUGE "personal bubble," so having scarers follow you closely just doesn't work for me. But while I can't do the whole scary part of Halloween events, I absolutely love the atmosphere, theming, music, and more. I've been to Worlds of Fun a couple times during the Halloween season, and it's honestly my favorite time of year to go to that park. It's not too hot, the rides are open long into the darkness, and I love that they often play some of my favorite soundtracks (the Edward Scissorhands score and more). So, yeah, I can't do the whole scare thing, but I definitely love the overall atmosphere of Halloween at parks.

I've wondered for a while now if TPTB might consider steering a bit into steampunk territory for SDC. And I am 100% all for that. Gimme that "Wild Wild West" (the show) vibe - mostly reality-based, but with some anachronistic twists! Man, I can't wait until August 16th... Also, that video featuring Buzzsaw Falls really hit me in the nostalgia feels! My cousins and I actually got to ride BF the day it opened to the public. It was SO fun. But I love how they incorporated it into Powderkeg; Powderkeg was the first launched coaster I'd ever been on, and I love it to bits! Man, I wish I could make it to SDC this year... But for SURE, I'm gonna do my best to convince someone to help me make it to opening day next year!

Ohio State Fair accident
tinaalsgirl replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, there are two witnesses who were the next in line for the ride who saw everything that happened: http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2017/07/marysville_sisters_at_ohio_sta.html Excerpt: "We saw the people coming out of the cart and then I was right next in line so I saw the buttons that the guy was hitting," she said. "And he hit the emergency stop button and as soon as he hit that the whole cart started flying off because the force was so big from the big ride." So, from this, it sounds like what happened was that a harness failed, and when the operator saw people falling out of their seats, he hit the emergency stop, and the force of it caused a failure in that metal and the carriage thus fell off.... This is the most detailed witness report I've seen so far, and to me it makes sense... -
Ohio State Fair accident
tinaalsgirl replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's another video on YouTube now that shows an even closer look at the ride immediately following the accident. This is... a bit more graphic than the other aftermath video already linked, if only because you get a more close up look, very briefly, of the poor person in the broken car whose legs were broken. Please, please edit/delete this message if this video link is a bit too over the line for here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwwxGUMA9Vc -
Blast from the Past WDW Trip Report
tinaalsgirl replied to Mrlittle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, that castle float is still used in the MK Christmas parade, I believe. I did a little searching, and that float debuted in 1986 for the MK 15th Anniversary Parade! I can't believe it's still around! https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2014/02/step-in-time-marking-15-years-at-magic-kingdom-park/ (you can see a B&W pic of it in the gallery) -
Photo Trip Report: Wisconsin and Minneapolis
tinaalsgirl replied to aueft's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I learned about House on the Rock when I read American Gods earlier this year. And man, Gaiman's way of describing his settings is SO good, that now when I see photos in trip reports like this, I feel like I've already been there, even though I've not. Great trip report, by the way! I'm loving seeing all these random tourist trappy places. I, too, am a sucker for random stuff like this, so I'm eager to see what's next! -
D23 Expo 2017 News Roundup
tinaalsgirl replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh, I dunno. If they theme the coaster to the idea that each car of the train represents one of the emotion "balls," I think they could pull off an Inside Out theme. I mean, in the movie, there are tracks all over for the movement of the balls... -
Throwback Thursday-Knott's Edition
tinaalsgirl replied to justcreate89's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh cool, that map is from the year I took my one and only trip to Knott's! Would love to go back one day; it'll be 20 years next year since that trip... -
Well, I went and looked at the concept art, and I'd say the Rodeo theme is out of the running; the station building in the concept art was designed to look like a barn, which is not the case with what's been built. As for the Mine versus Time Traveler theme... Well, the stations look similar in their art; both feature the little extra topper that was just added to the station a couple weeks ago. All three themes' art showed a "tower plunge." Unique to the Mine theme art versus the other two is it does show a tunnel on the coaster, and it's the only art that doesn't show what the coaster cars look like (the other two themes' art emphasize the spinning cars). "Time Traveler," "Wild Mountain," and "Mountain Wings" are all three still Live on the Trademark search. TT was filed in December; WM & MW were filed within two days of each other in February of this year. All three were "published for opposition" on April 18 of this year. Personally, I'm hoping sdcfan88 is right and they'll have gone with the Mine theme and that this will be like Helix and that if there's a spinning car, it'll be an option like the TnT backwards car. If they are indeed hiding the name/theme in plain sight, then I'd guess it would be "Wild Mountain." I haven't seen the other two trademarked names on the teaser signs.

So, I find this discussion interesting since Worlds of Fun's new entrance includes permanent metal detectors. I worked at WoF back in 2014 and I'm actually surprised it took them this long to put in metal detectors.... My co-workers who had been at the park much longer than I had warned me several times that Fourth of July weekend is well-known to have troubles brew. It seems like it had become a yearly tradition for teenagers to end up in fights in the park on that particular weekend. So I was surprised that when I got to work around 1pm-ish that Saturday (which did indeed end with a huge brawl in the plaza outside Steelhawk), I was walking from where I was dropped off in the VIP parking lot and noticed some folding tables sitting out in the walkway towards the entrance. Turns out it was set up for security to search bags and wand people.... But the thing is, there was no one manning those tables at that time of day. It wasn't until later in the day that they had anyone doing searches. Like, what is even the point of having bag searches/etc if you aren't going to be doing it the entire time people are entering the park that day? I'll be interested to see how Fourth of July goes this year at WoF with the new detectors. I'm not sure if knives/etc. have ever been involved in the fights that tend to occur that weekend every year at WoF, but at least now there'll be even less chance of that being the case.

Its been 11 years since I've been and I only live three hours away lol! Hopefully this year if I can afford it. I currently live about 3 hours away from there as well. Heck, there are things I've never done or seen in Kansas City, and I used to live there! LOL -

This new centerpiece is STUNNING! I hope I can find a way to make it to WoF sometime this year (it's doubtful); it's already been three years since my last visit. I wanna see all the new stuff in person! I'm also kinda wanting to try out Timberwolf again, having heard about them re-tracking.... I haven't been on that coaster in over a decade because it was just too rough for me my first time on it way-back-when. -
From what's being reported over on SDCFans, the little track + mine cart that was there for theming on the other side of that wall is also gone. As for the names, right now we have three possible titles that are trademarked by Herschend for a roller coaster: Time Traveler, Wild Mountain, and Mountain Wings.

Here's a quick rundown of what I've learned via various social media about various things from opening day today: 1) The wall behind the giant SDC logo at the park entrance is gone. You can see a photo of it here: (I'm still fairly new here, so forgive me if links like this aren't allowed; EDIT: realized that first one is from a private acct, so took it off) 2) The biggest news so far is Brad Thomas's tweet: - which gives the URL SilverDollarCity.com/WildMountain which re-directs to http://www.silverdollarcity.com/theme-park/what-is-it It should be noted that Wild Mountain is one of two titles trademarked by Herschend in February for the purposes of a roller coaster (the other being "Mountain Wings", filed two days after "Wild Mountain"). You can see the Wild Mountain filing here: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=doc&state=4804:dik119.2.3 Thanks/credit to straightshooter on SDCFans for the heads up about Brad's tweet!

That is exactly what I've been thinking every time I see his updates on this elsewhere! (*waves at any fellow SGW-ers*) -
I just finished watching the Twitch stream.... That was the most painful hour of streaming I've ever seen. The difference in enthusiasm, creativity, quality, etc. in comparison to the Planet Coaster beta stream was just... OMG. RCTW has, like, ZILCH going for it. And I couldn't even read half the chat replay because people's comments were being deleted, and I'm wondering if they were comments about PC....
