Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
Johnlloyd replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
It's quite snowy here! It looks like it'll be staying here for awhile as the temperature is suppose to stay around freezing for the next couple of weeks! -
Six Flags owns 123 coasters in the US. How many coasters does Cedar Fair own collectively?

Theme parks and coasters in the snow
Johnlloyd replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Snow is a type of frozen precipitation that is white and fluffy which can blanket the ground during the the seasons of Fall (Autumn), Winter, and even early Spring when it's cold and freezing outside. Although many people don't seem to like snow, it seems to bring out the beauty of roller coasters during the off-season as it gently blankets the roller coaster track in the colder climate. Sometimes though, too much snow fall can cause certain structures to collapse due to the weight of the accumulated amount of snow. -
Theme parks and coasters in the snow

Although these photos are from earlier this year, I thought I would share these photos of Canada's Wonderland in a snow storm. I had captured these photos on March 1st when I was there for a college project. Dragon Fire up close in the snow! Dragon Fire and Leviathan in a blowing snow storm! Drop Tower in the distance. Leviathan and Drop Tower braving the March 2016 snow storm! Leviathan's first drop. Wild Beast's turn around. -
Yes, and I think the answer is quite obvious as to why! Do you enjoy out-and-back wooden coasters more than double out-and-back wooden coasters?

Which current record coasters have you ridden?
Johnlloyd replied to rcjp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Below are my lists of record coasters I've been on. World Records: World's longest wooden coaster (The Beast at Kings Island) World's longest inverted coaster (Banshee at Kings Island) World's tallest suspended coaster (Vortex at Canada's Wonderland) Minor Records: Tallest and fastest coaster in Canada (Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland) -
CW? He is referring to Canada's Wonderland. I know what he means when they don't do much (or any) teasing in regards to a new ride or attraction. Canada's Wonderland just announces a new attraction on the day of the announcement oppose to creating buzz weeks or days in advanced prior to the announcement of a new ride. It would be nice if more parks tease about their new attraction prior to officially announcing it.

No but, roads I drive on are! Do you enjoy riding extremely tall drop towers?

No. But I will soon! Have you been on a roller coaster while it's snowing?

Launch VS Lift Hill?

I mostly prefer chain lifts but, I have been on a few coasters which have had an enjoyable launch. It all depends on the coaster really. -

I just thought that I would announce a ridership number that the park released today! As of the end of the 2016 season, Dragon Fire has the park's highest ridership at 40,737,787 riders! Dragon Fire (Formerly known as Dragon Fyre from 1981-1996) opened with the park on May 23rd, 1981. Congratulations Dragon Fire for providing safe rides throughout the past 35 years! -

Here are some recent photos (taken within the past year or so) of abandoned amusement parks in Canada which still stand (in some form) to this day. IAAPA 2016 Live Updates!
Johnlloyd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
According to a tweet which Zamperla re-tweeted on Twitter, the Rollin' Thunder car will be headed off to the new park in Alabama. I like it how this new car designed by Zamperla has a vest restraint opposed to a seat belt like vest restraint which is featured on Thunderbolt at Luna Park which caused some levels of uncomfortableness according to peopel who have rode it. But, I think it would be better if the vest was eliminated all together. Anyhow, the new car they produced still looks great! Thanks Robb for keeping us updated at IAPPA! I look forward to more posts! Many of the new ride and attraction concepts look amazing! -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
Johnlloyd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Let's play Devil's Advocate! What about U-shaped shuttle coasters like Intamin half pipes, impulse coasters and that weird coaster in China? What if they for whatever reason were powered by tires like the Skywarp? I think you could likely argue that the Skywarp at the very least could possibly be maybe considered as somewhat of a powered coaster. Well, if all those coasters you mentioned were tire propelled, then I wouldn't consider them to be coasters unless the tires propelled the trains to a certain point and gravity takes over for the rest of the duration. Yes, I could see the Skywarp as a powered coaster but, the two coupled trains make it seem like more of a flat ride. Just getting a little on the ridiculous side here but, someone could then argue that Bayern Kurves, Musik Expresses, and some kiddie rides are coasters just because they have wheels! So, unless there's physical brakes on the track, it operates with trains uncoupled, and it operates mostly by gravity; I won't be considering any flat ride a coaster. -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
Johnlloyd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maybe if it weren't tire driven it would more than likely be considered a coaster, especially if the LSM option were used as mentioned in the press release. In my opinion, the Larson Fireball, the Zamperla Disko, and other similar rides are not roller coasters. Another thing I would like to point out is the two "trains" are coupled together and don't move freely from one another so, in my opinion that makes it more of a flat ride. So, I would consider the Skywarp to be a flat ride until they install the LSM on it and only operate it with one train opposed to two coupled "trains". The Skywarp definitely looks amazing though! -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"

Skywarp looks like a fun and amazing new ride concept! The Immelmann gives it a nice touch! Hopefully it'll show up at quite a few parks in the future! Does anyone know if it will/can switch directions throughout the ride duration? -
So, since I can't include my home park, Canada's Wonderland, I'll have have to settle with Dorney Park. During my first visit to the park during June 2015, I took a ride on their Cedar Creek Flyers which was new for 2015. EDIT: If I were to add my home park, Canada's Wonderland I have been on Slingshot (2015), Skyhawk (2016), and Flying Eagles (2016) during their inaugural seasons.
