Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! I know that Mine Ride probably isn't going anywhere, because it's a great smaller coaster for kids, and co-workers who scream like they're being murdered while riding the Blue Streak (don't ask... ), but I've always thought that footprint would be super awesome for a B&M Flyer! I know it's an unlikely dream, but gosh darn it, that won't stop me from fantasizing! As long as you're happy with whatever they do end up adding you can dream about whatever you want Well, technically, I don't have to be happy with anything! But believe me, I will be happy with whatever they put in place of Mean Streak, and STR! (Unless it is a Larson Loop. I will absolutely NOT be happy with that! )

Do you want to realize something that will make you really sad??? In 1999, Michigan's Adventure was in a very similar situation to Holiday World, as far as size, private ownership with a big vision for the future, a world class wooden coaster, a nice water park, and an obscure location, that hadn't put it on the map for any more than regional attenders, and die hard wooden coaster enthusiasts. Two years later, Cedar Fair purchases MiA, and now, 17 years later, compare the two parks... It's not even close! One is arguably (I'm sure the Knoebels fans would argue this point) the best small, privately owned park in the world, that attracts tons of visitors from all over the country, in spite of being in the middle of nowhere. The other, our dear Michigan's Adventure, is virtually unchanged, other than a few cosmetic changes, a used Vekoma Hang and Bang, and a solid, if unspectacular rapids ride. Sure, MiA's waterpark is really nice, but it's not even on the same planet at Splashin' Safari still! We could have had a Holiday World North, potentially... But instead we have a glorified kiddie kingdom with a really nice waterpark. It's better than the fans of Guagua Lake have, but knowing the lost potential, just because Michigan is the #2 largest state for Cedar Point's attendance, is a bit of a gut punch...

To make it worse, you get launched up into the earth's atmosphere with the force of a Storm Chaser airtime hill, and burn to death! You go to Kentucky Kingdom, excited to ride Storm Chaser and Lightning Run, but everything is closed except T3!

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! This is SO true! To this day, eight years later, I still routinely shock anybody I'm talking to about the park here locally, by telling them that Thunderhawk was not original to MiA. I imagine it's a similar story with your average KI-goer regarding Firehawk, and also the DP GP regarding all of their relocated coasters. As far as Time Warp, and MiA, I actually think that'd be a great (as far as relocated coasters go) addition there, because it's a different ride variant than anything they have, and the Michigan GP will eat it up like Valravn Ice Cream! (While I'll just enjoy the shorter lines for marathoning Shivering Timbers! )

Kings Island (KI) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Wait... Are you saying The Beast is better than anything at Cedar Point? Or just better than their woodies? (I'd still disagree that it's better than Blue Streak, but to each their own.) I just want to make sure before I quote your post, in proving my point in the "Most Overrated Coasters" thread about The Beast... To be fair, I love Cedar Point and Maverick and Millennium Force are both in my top 5 coasters but the Beast at night is the best coaster experience I've ever had. During the day it's very mediocre but I'd take a Beast night ride over anything Cedar Point has and I LOVE Cedar Point. It's probably my favorite park not named Knoebels. To each his own of course. Yeah, I get that, as I've mentioned before about my mind-blowing back to back night rides in the front without getting off the train! That was definitely one of my top individual experiences on a coaster, obviously! I've had amazing night rides on MF too, however, so it's close between those two even in the night ride competition. What I'd really like to do now, is get a night ride (or ten) on Fury, to compare with them! I know it's more lit up than MF or The Beast, but that lighting package is pretty sweet in its own right! Oh... And I also expect Lightning Rod at night is going to be The Beast levels of crazy-awesome!

Most Overrated coaster?DILinator replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! That's me rolling around at your notion that one of the fastest and most forceful coasters on the planet "just rolls around until it hits the brakes!" Seriously, all of you enthusiast MF-bashers give me great stories to tell normal, GP people when I go to Cedar Point with them, because they think you all are certifiably nuts when it comes to MF! It's still a great ride, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's the #1 ride in the world, thus a bit overrated. Seriously after the first drop and turn around there's not much that's memorable about that ride. I still like it, and would take it over take it over 90% of other coasters in the world but that doesn't' mean it's not a tad bit overrated. Maverick > MF It's not my #1 coaster in the world anymore either, precisely because Fury does everything MF does well, and then does a lot more in addition (to your point!) Still, the rush of MF, to me, and most who ride it with me, is nearly unparalleled! I actually consider Maverick and MF tied, for all intents and purposes. They are both such different coasters, and provide absolutely amazing rides with two totally different experiences! Some days I think I like MF more, other days I think I prefer Maverick... So even though I rank MF as 1a (at CP) to Maverick's 1b, I have no problem with anybody saying Maverick > MF. Maverick is phenomenal!

Dollywood Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Wow! That video is simply amazing! This thing is clearly going to be off the chain insane! I've already paid for the Thrills in the Hills tickets for my son and I and now it's just a matter of when Dollywood reschedules that for! Can't wait to get on this finally (and with ERT, to boot!)

Kings Island (KI) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! I actually had this same thought last night, though I didn't end up posting it. Gravity Group dabbles in inversions, too, so that would definitely be a - wait for it - twist, on this new wooden coaster layout for KI! I think son of beast ruined that concept for the park . . . Eh, that was a while ago now, and was a completely different situation. I think people would be happy to have another wooden coaster with inversions at the park after losing SoB, and if the coaster as a whole was made better, and smarter, it won't have the same issues! Now, I'm not saying I think it will have inversions (or be a GG coaster), but it still is a possibility, at this point. My money is still on a Prowler-esque GCI...

The coaster that's given me the most intense individual moments of ejector airtime, is without a doubt, Storm Chaser! Absolutely forceful, relentless airtime! El Toro would be a close second in the individual moments department. The coaster with the most total airtime, I'd say is still probably The Voyage, though I don't find it as strong as SC, ET, or even Maverick, in the individual airtime department. Honorable mention to Magnum, which I don't feel is in the top 3 of either airtime, but is in the top 5 for both, and is by far the oldest coaster to be delivering such extravagant airtime!

If you have to learn how to ride a coaster, I'm pretty sure it's not a good coaster. So very true! (Though I would still call MF a "good" coaster - but that's about where I'd leave it at this point...)

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Nobody thinks it's neglected. We're just ticked off we're getting the coaster shaft in favor of the same parks. Um... So what you're saying is that you're getting neglected in the coaster department? Because that's exactly what I was referring to in my original post - KD fans feel their park isn't getting the attention from CF when it comes to coasters, that they deserve. That's exactly what you just acknowledged feeling, so... My point still stands... KD has a fantastic collection of coasters as is, better than when I was there, and yet, you're unhappy because Cedar Point gets more coasters? Did you ever seriously think Cedar Fair wasn't going to put the most coasters in their crown jewel park, the place that started the entire company, and is known as "The Roller Coaster Capital of the world"? You have a Giga coaster... One of only four such coasters in the entire world! You also have Volcano, which is awesome, and one of the most unique coasters in the world! And then you have arguably the best Floorless coaster in the world! So I'm just not seeing neglect there, even in the coaster department... Again, feel free to check out MiA's virtually barren timeline of coaster additions since the 90's, if you want to see what neglect looks like! I'll take "Rebuilt Hurler" for 2017, Alex Unfortunately I won't. Hurler is just a terrible ride. It's layout is too boring for GCI to do anything to it (unless they re-imagine the entire layout). RMC might make work their magic... I do agree with you here, however! I just don't see a GCI refurb of a coaster that has been mediocre from its inception, doing a whole lot for the ride experience, unless it's massively rebuilt. That's why I feel like the only way to "save" Hurler, is to RMC it. Can you imagine getting an RMC Hurler next season? All these years of "neglect" will feel like a distant memory, when you're riding that baby!

Carowinds Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Where do you like to sit? I'm typically a last row kinda gal myself unless I'm on Ka or TTD, but take suggestions into account for new rides. Sadly, due to CF's ridiculous assigned seating policies, I didn't get a front row ride on Fury yet... HOWEVER, I did ride it in the second row once, the back row three times, and the second to back row once, and I MUCH preferred my rides in the back or second to back row, over the ride in the second row. I know that the front is way better than the second because of the view, and the lack of obstructions, but Fury took the #1 spot on my favorite coaster list, by virtue of those back row rides. So I would definitely say that back row is awesome, and is likely going to give you a wilder overall ride than the front row will!

Holiday World (HW) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! I would be shocked if HW got another coaster next year, but they are an amazing park, that already does a lot of things people wouldn't expect, so you never know! I'm planing on returning next year, regardless, so any addition they make, coaster or otherwise, would just be icing on the cake!

Kings Island (KI) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Oh, I meant to comment on this exchange... Just goes to show you that removing your age from your profile doesn't make you older... or wiser... Honestly, nicman, I think your age being in your profile was actually a GOOD thing as far as people understanding where you're coming from is concerned... You might want to consider putting it back on there, to provide a little context regarding your posts! One thing I wanted to clarify from my first post regarding the new coaster being a GCI, and being disappointed... Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited. If this new coaster was an exact copy of White Lightning, but through the woods, it'd already be my second or third favorite coaster at the park. So this is great news, regardless of the manufacturer!

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion ThreadDILinator replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Yeah, again... relax. I don't care about your two paragraph responses to something that doesn't even matter at this point. I'm not trying to be a d*** about it or make enemies, I'm just being honest. I had a really long, well-written, and well-reasoned two paragraph response to this all written out, but then I realized something... I don't really care either! So, I guess that's something we have in common now! Oh, and I'd have no problem joining you at KK if it weren't five and a half hours away, and having a beer or two (I actually heard they have margaritas there in the waterpark!). You ever come up to Michigan's Adventure (I have no idea why you would, but...), let me know! We can marathon Shivering Timbers, and drink beer and eat brats in the beer garden. Those are literally the only two things worth doing in the dry side of the park!
