  1. It's not bad. It's just very average for a hyper coaster and Fury helps to exaggerate how average it is. I think the second part of your response really is the biggest thing that detracts from it, in my opinion. After riding Fury, it's just kind of like... "Oh, ok. That was cool, I guess. Back to Fury!" I think in another park that could use a Hyper coaster, Intimidator would be far more appreciated!
  2. While I think The Beast is an average wooden coaster during the day, it really does come alive for night rides! I was able to get two front row rides without getting off the train, including the last train of the night, after Midnight, with fog and mist rising from the ground all around the ride, during a coaster enthusiast event many years ago. It was definitely one of my favorite individual coaster experiences ever, and a (wait for it...) night and day difference in riding the coaster! The Bat and Banshee are also fabulous night rides, but don't forget Adventure Express after dark! That was my best spin on it I'd ever had! Bottom line: KI after dark is one of the best places for night rides, period!
  3. I found that starting a Phantom's Revenge and getting a front row ride quickly before moving to Exterminator worked really well. Don't have to deal with the longer lines for front row and get to face minimal wait for Exterminator. From my experience, this is a very solid plan as well! I haven't been there since Black Widow was added, but I would wager a guess, from what I've heard regarding lines for it, that hitting that third would then be wise. Don't forget to grab a second ride on PR on your way back through, in the very back, as that beast is one awesome coaster!
  4. michaellynn4, you are evil!!! I didn't even click the link and now the song is stuck in my head!
  5. I've found it isn't so much a height thing that causes pain on Green Lantern, it's more so the lack of knowledge of how to properly sit while on the ride. Spoken like a true Coaster Enthusiass... Congratulations on your supreme knowledge! I haven't ridden the S&S Free Spins, but if I could pick 5 coasters I've ridden to be burned with fire, never to return again, GL:FF would be one of them! (And Mean Streak would NOT be, for comparison...)
  6. To borrow coasterbill's rating system, but provide a slightly different opinion... Elite Rides Fury Good Rides Intimidator Afterburn If you're into that kind of thing... Nighthawk Who cares? Everything else Avoid Vortex (awful, even for a standup) You can't go wrong with that advice, though I would definitely heavily weight the rides in favor of Fury, personally!
  7. Does anybody else click on this thread's updates, fully expecting to read some horror story about the park every time?
  8. Noah's Ark was definitely both ridiculously fun, and also I could have sworn it was actually trying to kill me at times!
  9. I haven't really "credit whored" since early in my "coaster enthusiasm" days, but back then, I rode both Beaver Land Mine Ride at Geauga Lake, and Big Dipper at Michigan's Adventure solely for the credit. Funny story on Big DIpper... They had those really flimsy plastic clip seat belts on it back then (think of what they have on shopping carts for the kids), and after going over a bump, that thing popped right off of me! There was a lap bar, so I wasn't in any danger, but still...
  10. For me, it's all about how much fun I'm having, or how much of a rush a coaster gives me! I don't have a formula, really. If I get off the coaster, and I can't wait to get around the queue and back on again, then it's a winner. If I liked it, but can live without another ride right away, it's not going to be a top coaster for me. Looking at my Top 10 below, you see high and fast coasters, mixed with short and intense coasters, along with insane wooden beasts, airtime filled machines, and coasters that are just fun in how they interact with their environment. No real rhyme or reason other than that they are all coasters that I could ride 20 times in a row, and not get tired of!
  11. I would have loved to see a splashdown element on a wooden coaster! Hey, it worked on RCT!
  12. Or go to BGW which is always a better decision then going to KD or SFA. Let's face it, they are bottom tier parks KD a bottom tier park??? Wha??? I think you must have it confused with Worlds of Fun! (Though I'd agree with going to BGW over just about anywhere!)
  13. I too rode GK with a nice buzz when we were there last year and it was the least memorable but most likely the most fun of all the laps we took on it. Yeah, my main memory of it was that key-holing was especially fun in that state!
  14. ...Also, the new lapbar is basically a tourniquet, so that's... umm... not any better than it was before. Sorry, Vekoma, try again. Actually, I don't think there's anything that could save this ride. There is only one solution. It must be dropped into the fiery pits of Mordor. It may seem alluring with it's shiny new red paint job, but make no mistake, this ride will consume your soul if take more than a passing glance at it. It was a truly terrible experience... Midway through the ride I desperately wanted off!
  15. I had that same exact thought when I was walking by their arena yesterday!
  16. Ever since I've interacted with coaster enthusiasts in person, I seem to have received the most "coaster cred" for having actually ridden the infamous Drachen Fire before its removal - and even modification! However, I know that online, many more people have ridden it than my small circle of acquaintances. According to Coaster Count, my rarest credit is the original Jet Star at Casino Pier. Also, my Boblo Island credits are at the top, too. FWIW, I did ride SOB both with, and without the loop, but I imagine many people have, in enthusiast circles. Still, those are my biggest "rare" claims to coaster riding fame!
  17. Also my last coaster ridden, Lightning Run!
  18. Nice start to your TR! I look forward to hearing about the rest of your trip! I was just at KK for the first time yesterday, and I actually felt the opposite, regarding your comment above. Storm Chaser became my #5 coaster, and was just amazing, start to finish! Lightning Run was really fun as well, and I liked it, but I'm not sure it's even in my top 20. Reason being... I didn't find it easily re-ridable! I rode on it 7 times total, including three in a row without getting off (I was at an enthusiast event), but was good to go after that. Compare that to SC, which I rode 20 times, and would have been happy to ride some more! Just interesting to note the personal differences... One thing we definitely agree on... T3 needs to be gone, yesterday! I wish it was, so that way I wouldn't have ridden it!
  19. I love Manta too! It's in my Top 20 overall, and I gave it "Most Underrated Coaster" in my sig! Definitely an awesome coaster, and a Flyer done right!
  20. ^Let me just say... I rode GateKeeper after the Beer and BBQ event last week, and even though I always enjoy that ride (contrary to many of you, it seems), it was on a whole new level with a slight buzz going on! Highly recommended!
  21. It'll have to really, really impress me, just to be the best coaster at Sea World, in my opinion! (But then, I'm a leading member of the "Kraken is Life" fan club!) It won't be until next year, but I am definitely looking forward to getting down there and riding Mako! I enjoy all B&M Hypers, and love the two previous SWO coasters, so I expect it'll be great!
  22. Well, Bill, if you're ever there with me, we can ride it together! Better be this year though!
  23. I know for a fact it's not only enthusiasts it's pissing off! I can never get anybody else (we're talking GP types here) who goes with me to CP to ride it, even though I'd be willing to do it, and would tell them the correct way to ride it (which I've been doing since the 90's, before online coaster forums!) Combine that with its low ridership numbers, and it's safe to say that it pretty much appeals to a niche few at this point. As much as there's plenty to blame on whiny enthusiasts, I don't think negtive attitudes about Mean Streak are included...
  24. Then Mind Eraser must be hell incarnate, because T3 made Thunderhawk look like a stroll in the park! (Except, without any actual head banging - just constant shaking!)
