Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When did the B&M plant start making Mack track? The 2018 coaster won't be a B&M And you know this from official channels? I just ask, because it wasn't long ago, everybody in here was saying a 2017 B&M is on the way, and now it's a 2018 Mack. Yet, I've yet to see anything remotely resembling an official word for any of it. So until proven otherwise, it seems all of this is no more than speculation... Seemingly baseless speculation at that. Unless you have been personally told by a SDC higher-up "the 2018 coaster won't be a B&M", coming in here and saying that seems a bit pretentious... Man if you get this worked up about things that have absolutely no bearing on your life I'd hate to see you when you get news on something that does. You must be a real joy in real life. It's not speculation that the park is adding the coaster in 2018. This was confirmed verbally by the park at a two different functions. The manufacturer of the ride comes from other sources other than park management that are actually working on the project. If you care not to believe that, I invite you prove that the information is false. It's not difficult to find information that the higher-ups went and visited Mack headquarters last year and rode several of their rides. I guess if being acquainted with higher ups is being pretentious, I'll wear it like a badge of honor. I'm getting worked up??? One thing you did get right, however, is that I am actually a real joy in real life, confirmed by many people every day, as well as all of the friends I've made in coaster enthusiast circles, so that was good intuition on your part! Seriously dude, it was a legit question, that merited a legit answer, nothing more. And weren't you the one ridiculing somebody else for name dropping in the Valleyfair thead? Hmmm... -
That was such a terrible, terrible minute and a half of my life! I found T3 to be one of the smoother SLCs I've ridden. Granted, I'd only ridden Mind Eraser at SFNE before riding T3. Mind Eraser at SFNE must be like falling down a rocky mountainside then! And this statement pretty much says all you need to know about MiA's ride collection! (Aside from the glorious erection that is Shivering Timbers! )

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I would also add, that if you're going on the weekend of the 4th, you'll likely want to purchase your Fastlane+ in advance, since they will sell out fast, if they haven't already. Not that I'm advocating using Fastlane... Or going to CP on July 4th weekend... -
SFOG already has two Joker themed rides, not sure they would build a third. Good call! I hadn't even thought of that. Probably because I don't honestly think this track is going there, and didn't give it much actual thought!

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Because Togo Stand-ups suck, were unpopular even with the GP, and are maintenance nightmares... And in spite of all that, they were able to foist it off on a foreign park, and actually get some money in return for it! Its removal was a win/win for the park, even without something there to immediately replace it. -
Agreed! In fact, it's in my Top 10 overall, and I've ridden well over 200 coasters, so it's definitely more than deserving of all the accolades it gets, and is well worth going out of the way to ride (much like The Voyage is, in another small, off the beaten path park!) It's not you. I searched high and low last year for a decent ST shirt, and in the end, found there was nothing all that great... I got an "okay" shirt in the end, just to have one, but it is a bummer that such a premier coaster doesn't have any shirts worthy of it available. (Of course, I found the same thing with Storm Chaser at KK... No shirts that just leapt off the shelf and said "buy me!") It's not the enthusiast in you at all. Common misconception... It's extremely feasible for MiA to have another great coaster or two, and it was actually the trajectory the park was on when it was sold to Cedar Fair. Granted, CF's taken it in a different direction, but it's certainly a "feasible" thing for the park. Also, pretty much every "GP" in Michigan I've ever talked to sees it the same way... It has nothing to do with being a "coaster enthusiast", and everything to do with having eyes, and common sense! I'm glad you enjoyed the park, and definitely come back sometime, when you can enjoy it more fully, because besides ST, Wildwater Adventure is really the crown jewel of the park, and makes for a fun way to spend a hot afternoon! You're crazy! lol It may very well be the "best" SLC, but it's FAR from being smooth, and my son and I both had a very painful, and crappy ride, just last year on it. Granted, in the front row, leaning forward, it was tolerable. But that's basically the best case scenario for any SLC I've been on... Just not a great coaster design, period... But at least we have the "best" here in Michigan!

When did the long rumored B&M Wingrider for Canada's Wonderland become the long rumored B&M Invert??? I do suspect that next year's largest capital investment at a Cedar Fair park will be the long rumored B&M whatever at CW, so it wouldn't surprise me if the lime green is for them, since their other two large B&M's also feature very bright colors, that lime green color would fit well with them. Of course, if the new addtion at SFOG is indeed bigger than what we are expecting, maybe it would be Joker themed, and be a Wingrider...

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So the source is literally that you saw on some forum that some guy with 88 posts that nobody knows heard from "a guy" who talked to "some ACE members at SFA a few days ago" that spoke to "a KD official" who said that Hurler did not pass a structural inspection. Sounds legit. Maybe they all heard it from this guy... -
Worst Coaster Ever?

They're just in a tough spot because of the competition. They're pretty much the Six Flags America of Cedar Fair. Michigans Adventure says hi Michigan's Adventure is in a crazy small market compared to Dorney and SFA. I'd say the park is treated appropriately as far as new additions are corncerned because it'd be near impossible for them to get good ROI from a huge marquee roller coaster. SFA and Dorney are victims of the insane competition. Dude, do you even internet? How many times does this statement have to be completely destroyed before it goes away. I said small in relation to Dorney and Six Flags America. Dorney is within driving distance of Philadelphia and metro New York. SFA is close to Philly, Washington, and Baltimore. Which is why I thought Dorney was the more apt comparison. You are correct, that it is quite small in comparison to Dorney and SFA's markets. I bolded the portion of your comment that I, and likely PhantomPoster32, was responding to. It's an oft-repeated thing in enthusiast circles (particularly on a rival site that shall not be named), which is patently, flat out wrong, and yet is taken as gospel by many. I could cite example after example, but this is the Dorney thread, and now we're getting WAY off topic! But you are correct, if you were referring only to market size. Just know MiA's market isn't as small as most people assume, since it includes Grand Rapids, which is actually a very large city, and is the second largest in the state (and growing!)

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I could see it happening if the Rivertown expansion is bigger than we think. Otherwise I'm not convinced. There are good options for locating the new ride without removing the flume. There are "good" options all over for the new ride, certainly. However, the fact that they've teased the removal of the flume multiple times, and the design of the upper portion of the "T" layout of the coaster, bears a strong resemblance to the current footprint of the log flume, gives me reason to think there's fire behind all this smoke. -

The log flume posts could be a red herring, but I remain convinced that the flume will be going to make way for the ride, and stand by my thoughts on where the location of the coaster will be with that in mind. If I'm wrong, that's great! But they seem to be hinting about its removal pretty hard, here and there... -

I had that exact same thing happen to be on FoF before! It was so bizarre! FoF is definitely an underrated coaster! -
Worst Coaster Ever?
DILinator replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^^Am I the only one that got from that, that Bolidkus has way too much time on his hands! I feel similarly to Liftthrill about Goliath at SFMM, but it's definitely not the worst coaster ever, in my opinion. Now see, I admit it wasn't a great coaster, but for the sheer novelty factor of it, I actually enjoyed it (to a degree) my one and only ride way back when! Interestingly enough, my choice for worst coaster ever came from that same visit to SFGAdv, when I rode Great American Scream Machine. Maybe after riding that hunk of junk, Viper just seemed decent in comparison! -
We don't have any mechanics with experience working on complex launched wooden roller coasters either but that never stopped anyone from providing us with page after page worth of unimaginable horse sh*t about how they should have built it and what the P.R. team is doing wrong during the delay. The TPR patent law experts will be here soon. It's best to just get a beer or twelve and prepare for the inevitable.

^Given that you're going to be there over multiple days, not to mention, Sunday through Tuesday, I don't think you'd "need" a FL+ at all. If you're very line waiting averse, go to CP rarely, and want multiple re-rides (more than 2 total rides) on the big 4, you may want to consider it. Otherwise, save your money, and just go and take it as it comes is my recommendation! -

I've been wanting to post something along those lines regarding the name guessing as well! -
As a Michigander, I second this explanation! You should be good to go, even on a Saturday! Unless its late July or August But who would do such a stupid thing as go to an amusement park on a Saturday in late July or early August?!?! Seriously though, even on a Saturday during that time, if he's going to just ride ST twice, WW, Thunderhawk, Corkscrew, Mad Mouse, and maybe Zach's Zoomer, four hours should still be enough time. He might have to cut either ZZ, or MM, if he's coming up short because it's particularly busy. But I guess my other point is: don't spend the extra on Fast Lane, just to ride ZZ, a stock Mad Mouse, or even Corkscrew, really. The "credits" aren't worth the money, and you can ride the "Big 3" (well, Big 1, and the two distant followers), including ST, in 3-4 hours, no problemo.

Hopefully Thrills in the Hills happens! -
Agreed. I used to have a very overlarge wallet (think: about and inch and a half), that I would keep in my front pocket (obviously not in the back, at that size), and making sure to place it under where the restraint would come down, and then flexing my leg, would tend to assure me that I wasn't stapled too uncomfortably. I was still FAR from unsafe, but at least the ride wasn't painful the entire time. Now that I have a smaller, more reasonable wallet size... Well, I just have to hope I don't get stapled!
