Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry, but I'm going against the grain again... I always look for as cheap of a hotel/motel as I can get when I travel, and rarely have bad stays. I stayed at the Motel 6 right off the Turnpike earlier this year, in addition to newly opened Magnuson right near CP (formerly a Days Inn), and both were perfectly fine, and less than $50. I'll gladly take that savings, and invest in something more worthwhile in the park then (though not another waste of money, those blasted Fast Lane passes! ) If there ever is an issue, I'll simply make a note, and go somewhere else. Maybe "making it rain" on things like $100 hotels and Fast Lane works for single enthusiasts, or enthusiast couples with no kids. But when you're a lower middle class enthusiast with a four kids, it's a miracle simply being able to go anywhere at all after paying all the bills. I will say this: if I'm staying somewhere with my kids, I'll spend a little more than I would if I'm just going somewhere myself, or with some other friends. To each their own, but I think there are plenty of decent, low cost places to stay out there, and certainly no shortage near Cedar Point! (I'll be staying in a relatively new Motel 6 when I go next time, less than a 10 minute drive down Cleveland road from CP, which looks pretty nice!) -

See, that's the thing with my comparison with MiA earlier... At least it's still worth it to pop by there once or twice a year just to ride Shivering Timbers a ton! I haven't ridden American Thunder, but nothing else at SFStL is remotely close to ST, at least in my opinion. -
See, that is pretty much the only stateside B&M Floorless I haven't ridden (besides Medusa at SFDK), and my love of Floorless coasters is why I've been excited to finally get to Dorney! That is, until hearing from pretty much everybody who has been to Dorney that it's lame, and that Hydra is a disappointment! Still want to get there and ride it before long though!

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

It sounds to me like a similar situation to what we have here in Michigan. Even if you live closer to Michigan's Adventure, you're often much more likely to go to Cedar Point, or even Great America, than you are there. Now, if they were to get that Hyper that SFStl wants... Michigan's Adventure was a fun little park. I had Platinum passes this year, so after a trip to Chicago, visited MA, before making trips to Cedar Point and King's Island. I know you all would love a new coaster, but I just don't see the park having the capacity for one. Everything was walk on the day I was there. But was nice to see all the coasters running multiple trains, even with it being slow. Sure, it's a "fun little park", and if that's all it ever is, so be it. I don't buy the capacity argument for a second though, and Holiday World (and Knoebels) debunk that notion quite nicely, actually. If it were still an independently owned park, it'd actually have a lot more to do. The potential is there. But it's exactly what CF wants it to be, so... Regardless, my point wasn't that it's not a nice little family park. It's that it pales in comparison to another park (or two) nearby, which is the situation that SFStL finds itself in regarding Holiday World. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

This guy thinks like I do! I prefer Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to Hershey Bars, so maybe I'm the target demographic for the middle tower?!?! -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have watched CS's videos from time to time, for kicks and giggles, and I think my kids have watched him some too. My biggest issue, honestly, is his voice, and delivery. It's just not very good for speaking or presentation, which is what he's doing amounts to. He's not a professional though, so it's not a big deal. I respect anybody, to a certain extent, who takes valuable time, and uses whatever skills they have to create something. Even if it's not excellent or professional. The act of creation is impressive in its own right. Many people with potentially greater skills sit around and judge and criticize others' work, all the while contributing nothing of value themselves. So at the very least, he gets props from me for putting himself out there, and taking the time and effort to do so! -

To chime in on the TTD station discussion, I do have to agree with the thought that watching the train in front of you depart from the front row of the second station, adds to the excitement, and anticipation! If I'm riding it with somebody who either hasn't ridden before, or is doing it in the front for the first time (as I did earlier this year), it's great hearing them get nervous and sweat it out as they watch the train in front launch! As for which station has a shorter line, I found that on average, the left station (first station) has a shorter line, because for whatever reason, most people just seem to go into the nearest side to where the queue spills into that area, which is the right station side. I actually tracked our progress this year when going on the left, and we got to the station, and on the ride, much quicker than the people behind us who went to to the right side. Of course, if you go to the left, you won't have that experience I described earlier... Again, all decisions about TTD need to be made with the understanding that a breakdown is imminent, you just don't know how imminent, imminent is! Generally, getting on it as soon after it re-opens from a breakdown, is the best time, as you probably have a good shot of getting on, and as others have mentioned, the line typically will be shorter. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

I'm with these guys... I would be shocked, SHOCKED, if CF installed another Windseeker anywhere in their parks! Getting them running fairly regularly finally doesn't mean the park chain has suddenly forgiven or forgotten all of the extensive troubles they've had with them over the years. My money is definitely on a Star Flyer model like Six Flags has! Hopefully, it's not simply a used, 100 foot one though... That seems incredibly anti-climactic of an addition, and doesn't really seem like "new heights"... -
Will B&M ever top the charts?
DILinator replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Only in the world of coaster enthusiasts can you find people who refer to coasters like GateKeeper and Thunderbird as tame. From much personal experience, I can attest to the fact that no normal, non-enthusiast person I've been to CP with (which has been quite a few), thinks GateKeeper is anything less than wild, crazy, and really fun! (I'm not targeting you singularly, XII, but just commenting on this common narrative regarding Wing Coasters, and B&M in general that I see on enthusiast sites.) -
Heresy!!! Kraken is far and away the most unique Floorless coaster, taking into account its location, the multiple underground tunnels, and its perfect execution of elements! Overrated??? Most people would say Dominator and Krypton Coaster are better, so even though I disagree with that valuation, I think it's hard to say Kraken is overrated. I have it in my top 10 (of over 230), and I stand by that ranking! I'm a huge fan of the Floorless coaster model as well, ranking the aforementied Dominator and Krypton Coaster very highly in my personal ranks. But while Dominator excels at being just a basic, awesome layout (with killer rides in the back row), and Krypton Coaster has the unique topography and huge vertical loop, I feel Kraken does everything well layout wise, and then adds the fabulous tunnels and setting to give it an edge up! To each their own, but I simply don't see how anybody could say it's just like "every other floorless", when it has such clear distinctives that set it apart.

It really is one of the best "old loopers" in existence today, if not THE best! Sorry to hear about Cheetah Hunt... I haven't had the opportunity to ride it yet, but am very excited to do so on my next trip to Florida. Maybe I should temper my expectations somewhat... I just love BGT! Definitely my favorite place to go when I visit Florida, and yes, that's including all of the Orlando attractions!

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I must state again, however, from much personal experience at the park, that you are always running a great risk, the longer you wait in line for TTD. It breaks down frequently, and that is not an exaggerative statement. My four visits to the park this year, it has been down more than it has been up, easily. If you haven't ridden it yet, definitely just get on the coaster, and get one lap under your belt, assuming it's more than a half hour wait to the station (if it's not, give the front line a try.) Then, you can always wait for the front your second lap on the coaster, even if it's a long wait to the station. Front seat rides on these type of coasters are definitely where it's at, much like everybody else has said! However, if you make it to the station, and then wait in a 30-45 minute line for the front, and the coaster breaks down during that extra time, you're going to feel very frustrated, and wish you had just gotten on when you first had the chance. Believe me, from years of personal experience, and the experience of watching others there... TTD can be one of the most frustration-causing coasters you'll ever encounter, and doing everything you can to mitigate that frustration, will make for a much more enjoyable day at CP! -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
These statements are both true, and not mutually exclusive! For the market it's in, and the size of the park, I am surprised KD has been pushed to the backburner coaster-wise as much as it has. But yes, Worlds of Fun, Dorney Park, Valleyfair, and especially Michigan's Adventure, all are much more "in need" of a new coaster than KD. Count me in as somebody who still thinks we're going to see Hurler RMC'd, and also somebody who believes that there is NO layout on a wooden coaster so bad, that it couldn't be made better by RMC! To me, KD seems like the perfect "tester" park for CF's first RMC - though I believe their second is already planned, and will follow along a year later at CP! -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kennywood is such a great little park! Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, Bayern Kurve is SO much win! Phantom's Revenge has GOT to be in the conversation for most underrated coaster, especially among enthusiasts! I'll never understand how so many people rave about Magnum, yet, in my opinion, PR eats up and craps all over Cedar Point (to coin one of your phrases) Magnum! Such a great, great coaster! I have not yet had the pleasure of riding Black Widow, but considering maXair might very well be my favorite non-coaster ride (I actually like IT more than Magnum! lol), I am very anxious to finally get back to Kennywood again and check BW out! It must be amazing! -
No, no one has done a Six Flags 2017 Prediction Thread yet because... Well, it's Six Flags, and it will probably go something like this: Those parks who don't have a Larson Loop yet will be getting one for 2017. Those parks without a Justice League: Battle For Metropolis will be getting one for 2017. Lastly, those parks who already have both Larson Loops, and JLBFM will be getting a S&S "Freefly" coaster. #EndOfNonExistentThread Seriously, you nailed it! You could have even added a "Mic Drop" there at the end!

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First off, full disclosure, I'm not the biggest fan of TTD. I mean, I like it, and it's a blast! But it hasn't changed my life, even in the front. Having said that, I definitely recommend trying to get in the front row at least once, and preferably, as often as possible! My suggestion would be to get on TTD as quickly as possible, if the line is long. If you're waiting in a line over 30 minutes to get to the station, you should just get on that thing, because it could break down at any time. If you've waited less than 30 minutes when you reach the station, you should go ahead and get in that front line though, as the bonus of an actual short wait for TTD allows for that extra front wait to be more like a "normal" wait! -
Will B&M ever top the charts?
DILinator replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Yeah, the thing is though, Fury IS intense, and "balls to the wall", and I say that valuing coasters like Maverick and Storm Chaser highly in that department as well! I guess my point, is that there send to be a prevalent stereotyping of B&M's a certain way in enthusiast circles, and I think that's settling the company short. They DO make intense coats, and more importantly, FUN coasters, which is what puts a coaster at the top of the charts anyway! -
Will B&M ever top the charts?
DILinator replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So true Actually... Not only does Fury top this "coaster nerd's" poll, it is leading at another coaster nerd's site that will not be named's poll. Additionally, I was referring to the likelihood it tops the Golden Ticket Award poll at some point, which is voted on by coaster nerds. It's an amazing coaster, and very deserving of all the praise, and "poll-topping" it gets! B&M and all! -

Maybe they can call it El Diablo? Original Name Idea: Hot Tamale Nah... El Diablo would be too normative there. They're going to call it "The Devil" instead, to give it that ethnic flair! -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You guys have overlooked the most obvious name for this new ride! Outlaw Streak!!! WAY back in this thread I posted my thoughts about MS being given the RMC treatment, and a new midway, and back entrance being a part of the plan as well. I feel like the early closure, and the likelihood of a Soak City expansion next year, could mean that there is no new coaster in 2017, but a new, RMC coaster (either built from the ground up, or refurbed with topper track to remain a wooden coaster), as well as a new entrance, midway, and potentially another flat ride and shop, would debut in 2018. Just a thought... I'd love to see a brand new RMC next year, believe me! Also, I hate to refute an opinion expressed by one of TPR's most beloved posters, but Cedar Point DOES very much care about things like records! Did you see how many they touted for Valravn last year, virtually making up half of them on the spot! So yeah, I'll be shocked if this isn't a major record breaker in a number of areas, both valid, and sketchy, whatever it is. As long as I've been alive, that's been Cedar Point's MO, and I doubt it'll suddenly change here... I wish we had some idea of when the announcement for its replacement will be. But for now, it's nice just to put an end to the speculation about will it go, or won't it go! -

Ditto! (And, FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets there "officially" too, soon!) -
Just saw the premiere of "Jason Bourne, and I quite enjoyed it! Is it as good as the first three with Matt Damon? No, but then again, that trilogy is among my all time favorite movies! It came very close to them, however, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they go from here. I know there is another Aaron Cross "Bourne" movie coming up next, but I really hope the next film after that sees the two characters join forces!
