Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I am interested in this new gate and why you think it is needed. Who will use it other than the cabin and RV folks? A gate would require at minimum 3 staff entrance, exit and ticketing and sometimes security. That is a lot of staff for relatively few guests. My suspicion, is that the Soak City expansion will extend right up to the current "back entrance" if the park, and become a dedicated Soak City/CP entrance. As such, there will need to be another entrance for resort guests who do not wish to traipse through Soak City (or can't, because it's a separate ticket). Additionally, the addition of a massive new RMC back there is sure to become a big draw to the back if the park, and this would allow for easier access for those wishing to go there first. The current back entrance is small, out of the way, and inadequate for the amount of people that would now be coming through there. Add in the fact that both of the last major coaster additions resulted in new gates, and an enlivening of that area around them, and this notion of mine becomes very plausible, and extremely logical. This will also serve to balance out the crowds in the park, so it's not so front-heavy early in the day. We'll see soon enough if I'm right or wrong, but this has been my thought on the future for this area for a while now! -

I'm going to assume that it's because of the sheer size of the project? Texas Giant was/is roughly the same size as Mean Streak. It closed in November of 2009, and reopened April of 2011. . . So if Mean Streak is getting the same RMC treatment, and it is closing in September of 2016, and reopens in 2018 that's a pretty similar time line. (Maybe a bit longer because they are factoring in the "harsh" winters that can cause delays with the construction.) If anything by comparing the timelines, it make it seem even more likely that Mean Streak will be getting an RMC Makeover! In addition to this, which I think is very valid, by the way, I still maintain that there will be added infrastructure around the ride. Whether that includes an extension of the Gemini Midway and a new back entrance or not (and I personally think it will), I definitely think there will be additional things back in the Mean Streak area besides just the coaster! -

^I have so much love for WHITE LIGHTNING in my heart! It does me well to hear you speak of it such! Also, it's my 9 year old daughter's current favorite coaster, and we marathoned it together, so I think that's partly why I feel so fondly of it! -

That would be awesome! I'd really like that too! It would also help to differentiate the experience from The Beast's legendary night rides, because those are pitch black, while some eerie lighting effects on this would be pretty cool, and a pretty epic "Cedar Fair Theming" addition! -

That is awesome news. Thank you! I can't wait. I didn't think I would make it to the park this year but just decided to take a quick trip out there for a couple days. I'll be going during that time, on September 1st. It's a Thursday, so it should be really nice! It's a little close to the extended Labor Day weekend, but I think that day shouldn't be too bad due to that. Seriously, it's a great time to go, so you should have a great day! -

^^That's very awesome! I won't lie though Robb... I understand why you've moved away from the physical DVD POV videos, but myself, and my kids, really miss there being any new ones! -
Fixed that for you! (I know that's what you were saying, anyway...) There's a reason I haven't been to CP since Memorial Day... Going to CP in the Summer months, if it can be at all avoided, is preferable. And if you do go then, DON'T go on the weekend! I have been to CP this year on a day where literally every ride was a walk on, except Valravn and Maverick, and I waited a grand total of less than an hour for four Valravn rides that day. It can be done, you just need to know when to do it... As for Indiana Beach... I almost think it's gotten to the point where people dog on it so much, that if anything, it's underrated! Cornball Express is currently a Top 5 wooden coaster for me, and the park was very unique and pleasant (at least when I went there.) I feel saying IB is overrated is almost like saying Michigan's Adventure is overrated!

Bet on it. With all the money. ^THIS My personal suspicion is that it will be next to Slingshot, and eventually by 2018, part of a new midway that extends to the RMC Streak and Frontier Town entrance. But at the very least, it will be moved elsewhere! -
^ My thoughts exactly!

What's such a tremendous joke to me about the Dinos Alive attractions (besides the very fact that they exist), is that my own young kids - the target demographic for the attraction - don't even have any interest in going to it! Seriously, such a waste... I wouldn't be surprised, assuming that there is a 7 year contract, that CF is regretting getting involved with that right about now... -

Which wasn't any more exciting than Hurricane Harbor... Which is why I didn't even bother mentioning it. That isn't even a little bit correct. HH has nothing on Splashin Safari! That's like, your opinion man. I wasn't impressed to the point I feel the need to return anytime soon. To be fair, I'm not a big fan of ANY waterpark. Well you are entitled to your own opinion just everyone else is entitled to think you're an idiot for having that opinion. It's pretty obvious you didn't even really experience Splashin Safari. The two water coasters alone are worth the price of admission Normally, I don't like to take this kind of tone on these forums, or when discussing things that are frankly all just a matter of opinion and personal preference... However, in this case, I actually think it's pretty warranted! I mean, comparing Splashin' Safari with any other non-dedicated water park is straight up nuts! As was said, the two water coasters alone make it better in my book, and there's a lot else to it as well! -
It's great to see all the Waldameer love, because it's only getting me even more excited for next Friday! It's going to be my Birthday, too, so it sounds like it'll bee a very worthy way to spend my special day!

Cedar Point is announcing a water park expansion. Countdown to Geauga closing might as well begin now.... Hmmm... A good point, that I hadn't really thought about much until now! This whole debacle is still such a shame to me... Que sera sera.. -

This is an actual picture from the last time I went to CW, and the line jumping was SO bad all day! By the time we got to the end of the day, we'd given up expecting it would ever be addressed by staff... My take on the park's attitude towards Line Jumping. -
Yup. I want to say it's $10 per person for a ride which is a little steep but worth doing. The first time we went we got wristbands which payed off quickly but this time it was late so we just bought tickets for White Lightning and the bat sh*t insane Paratrooper. Honestly I'll probably do this every time we go to Florida and then get a drink or two (just because they're so cheap). I love Fun Spot. To piggyback on this, I also HIGHLY recommend hitting up Fun Spot, even if for a brief stop just to ride the awesomeness that is White Lightning, and any other selected rides! I know $10 an hour seems a steep per hour price, but the park is open until Midnight this Saturday, while Sea World closes at 8. So you can get four hours in the park for about $40. If you were going to pay $10 for just one ride on White Lightning anyway (assuming Bill is correct about that, because I don't honestly know since we paid the all day price), you might as well enjoy four hours at the park at night, which I think will provide you plenty of time to ride any flats you want, Freedom Flyer once for the credit (or more, if you really like it), and marathoning White Lightning, which is an awesome thing to do! As Bill said, I too love Fun Spot, and will visit it anytime I'm in the Orlando area in the future!
