Moreys Piers Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to LcHg5265's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To be accurate, I'd say anybody posting on a website about coasters on a daily basis is definitely a "coaster enthusiast"! I know exactly what you're talking about though, as I shake my head every time I'm at a "Coaster Enthusiast Event" at all the ridiculousness that surrounds me, and am quick to dissociate myself from the typical riff-raff. So, does this mean no PPP for you coasterbill? I had assumed if I went there, naturally you would be there too! -
Favorite Coaster Color Scheme
DILinator replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That really is the best color scheme of the B:TR clones! It's such a shame that it's gone now, and that none of the others have been re-painted this very fitting color! I see what you're getting at there, but I'm pretty sure it was just a co-incidence, as the Black and Yellow is the color of the 90's Batman movies iconic logo, and I'm sure that's what it was based off of. Not that having a park embracing their towns is a bad idea! Along those lines... I thought it was interesting that Charlotte gets the Hornets back, returning them to their teal color scheme, and then Fury is built, also using that color, and of course, the Hornet motif! I know both the team and the coaster are based off of the local lore dating back to the Revolutionary War, but I thought the color choice might have been a local homage sort of thing... Oh, and I also wanted to point out how good it is that they're assigning seats on Fury, because otherwise wanting to sit in the front would cause SO many operational problems... -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
According to the site, anyone above 48" can ride alone, so credit whore away. I can verify that they allow you to ride Cocoa Cruiser without a child. Yes, I have the credit. I don't have it. Every time I go to the park it's with my dad, and if he saw me riding it I think he'd leave the park and drive home right then and there. I've been to Hersheypark twice, and have yet to ride it either. There was like, one or two years early in my coaster enthusiasm where I rode all the kiddie coasters. But as of late, I don't bother, and definitely don't "miss" getting the "credits"... -

The great thing about our hobby, is that it's all based on people's personal opinions, and is subjective, not objective... But anybody saying anything is better than Fury is definitely wrong! -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I've been going to Cedar Point multiple times a year, every year since the 90's, and have been riding MF with regularity since its opening month of operation. I may not have worked at the park, but that has nothing to do with knowing what I have experienced on a coaster. Sure, there is no airtime on MF like Maverick, or Magnum. However, the airtime on the hump by the queue and station is definitely much more than simple floater airtime, like you experience on the previous MF hills. It's stronger than you experience on most B&M coasters. In the back, where I typically ride the coaster, I'm ejected out of my seat with force, every time I ride it. It is not the same airtime as the firm airtime that you glide (or float, if you will) into over the previous hills on the coaster. Clearly, where the disagreement stems from, is differing ideas of what constitutes ejector airtime. If you want to say that you've never considered any of the airtime on MF to be ejector, based on your definition of what is needed to constitute that to you, that's fine. But you can't state so definitively something that is clearly not an absolute, that applies to every rider. -
Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

I'd just be glad that we get a coaster. I'd rather have a S&S 4D Free Fly clone than nothing Seriously! If Michigan's Adventure put in an S&S "4D" Free Fly clone, there would be jubilant cries, and a stampede of local people (not just enthusiasts) knocking down the gates to ride it! -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I do every time I ride it! Do you ride it in the back few rows? If you, you should a nice jolt of ejector air going over that hump next to the queue. Seriously. Maybe if you're still not getting air, you're getting stapled every ride or something, but I'm out of my seat every time there... -
Six Flags 2017 New Ride Predictions
DILinator replied to djackson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hopefully a mod can change the title to just Six Flags Predictions, as I did think there might as well be a forum to discuss them, as there wasn't already. Yeah, their additions tend to be a lot more similar than Cedar Fair's, but guessing what clone goes where, can be half the fun! It's like one of those quizzes where you're given the answer words, you just need to match them with the right spot! America - Jester's Wild Ride (relocated from Great America) Discovery Kingdom - Giant Discovery (No idea for them... Just a shot in the dark) Fiesta Texas - Intamin Wooden Coaster off of the canyon wall where the 2017 attraction was teased. Great Adventure - Justice League Great America - S&S "4D" Free Fly Great Escape - Another year of the Michigan's Adventure treatment... La Ronde - Massive attention paid to painting, and updating entire park (The most "yeah, right!" prediction of them all!) Magic Mountain - Justice League and new DC Themed area Mexico - S&S "4D" Free Fly New England - S&S "4D" Free Fly Over Georgia - Justice League Over Texas - Larson Loop St. Louis - S&S "4D" Free Fly -Obviously, it seems unlikely that there will be four "4D" installations added, but I would think by 2018 the four listed will have theirs. For 2017, New England is a sure thing, and I think Great America is a sound bet as well. -The long awaited second Intamin woodie is a complete wild card guess, simply because it seems to me that SFFT will add a wooden coaster next. That's probably not what's going there, but hey, what's the fun of making predictions if you can't dream big with some of them! -SFOT is rumored for a "4D" as well, but that seems unlikely to me. The Larson Loop guess is simply because they don't have one, so why not? Honestly, unless 5 parks are actually getting Free Flys this year, there is a bit of uncertainty still left regarding some SF parks, when you actually sit down to predict them. As such, this does seem like a worthy thread, at least as much as any prediction thread is worthy! -

^I agree with virtually everything you said (except for liking Mean Streak more than Blue Streak), and am glad to see somebody else mention the airtime on MF in a context other than saying it has none! Yes, it doesn't have a ton, but it does have a couple of good floater airtime moments, and one really good ejector moment. Couple that with its intensity and speed, and it's one of the best coasters in the world (another area we disagree slightly in, as you have it rated lower than I would.) Glad you enjoyed your visit, and thank for the lengthy TR! (P.S. I also appreciated the more subdued review of Raptor, which along with the Batmen, I feel is often overrated by enthusiasts.) -

To be fair though, you didn't list the large number of other ways the word can be utilized and defined, that have nothing to do with water, or any penetrable substance. It is because of those myriad other uses of the word that I don't automatically assume "plunge" means "going into water." Hence, my initial response to the fixation on that aspect. As a writer, and a bit of a wordsmith, it seemed like a narrow interpretation of the word to me, that's all. However, enough has been said on the matter, and I again apologize for my fixation on the fixation! -

^ Fair enough... Even though the word "plunge" isn't bound to the context of water, it is typically utilized in that way. I apologize for being a little anal there! -
Piggybacking on this... As somebody whose closest park is Michigan's Adventure, I honestly would have rather had Six Flags purchase the park from the Jourdans, than Cedar Fair. Yes, the overall atmosphere, infrastructure, and operations is probably better now than it would have been, but MiA would have seen regular additions, even though they were small, and likely clones, over the past 16 years. I actually appreciate that about Six Flags... They general always give a park something, even if it's a Larson Loop level addition, and something is better than nothing - which is essentially what MiA has received for the vast majority of a decade and a half.

Not sure if this was referring to my post, but I've been riding Mean Steak that way since the 90's, so you don't need to tell me that! As for my friends, I just explained that way of riding it to them, yesterday... Not that it really matters now! -

Oh, my sweet summer child. Spend some time at MIA or Great Escape and you'll be even more grateful for that awesome new GCI Ghostrider. Honestly, if we're talking about single coasters at parks, I still would take Shivering Timbers over anything at Knotts! -

Are you saying you think this will be a "plunge" as in maybe going into a pool of water or the drop will be covered like Buss Saw Falls? Plunge as in a drop. There may be thematic elements at the top of the drop. No there will not be water Yeah... Not sure where the correlation between "plunge" and "water" came from... -

I was at a gathering of random friends tonight, and somebody asked me what I thought of Mean Streak closing (since he knew I am a "Coaster Enthusiast." The funny thing is, everybody else in the room chimed in regarding their hate for how terrible and rough that ride is! Again, whenever somebody tries to say it's just whiny enthusiasts who don't like it, I shake my head, because my experience is that the opposite is actually. I can't find any non-enthusiasts that I know who actually do like it! I know more people who liked Mantis, than Mean Streak, for crying out loud! Suffice it to say, it's time has come to go, and make way for a glorious new erection! -

Do You Bother With Water Parks?

That is awesome news. Thank you! I can't wait. I didn't think I would make it to the park this year but just decided to take a quick trip out there for a couple days. I'll be going during that time, on September 1st. It's a Thursday, so it should be really nice! It's a little close to the extended Labor Day weekend, but I think that day shouldn't be too bad due to that. Seriously, it's a great time to go, so you should have a great day! Friday picks up a bit but Thursday is slow. We'll be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday this year and may or may not pop in for Early Entry on Monday. Bummer! I'll miss you by a day! However, I figured Friday would be busier than Thursday, and you know me! Mr. "No Fast Lane ever"! Have fun paying tribute to your beloved Mean Streak! I know I'm going to get a few final laps in myself in on Thursday!
