Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

^I get that the hotels are making CP more than enough cash to pay for another major coaster, but somebody else made a good point on CWMania. CP's "construction fence" has absolutely no signs of construction behind it (apparently there's newly planted grass there). At least we've seen construction equipment show up on site, and the flattening of the land around skyrider's old spot. -

...You place your bet on which major league sports teams will win based on what amusement parks the teams' respective cities/states have. For example, when watching the NBA finals, you're either a CP fanboy and want Cleveland to win, or you're a CGA fanboy and want Golden State to win! -

After hearing about the teasers going on at CP for their supposed new coaster, even more confused as to what's going on! Obviously CP is getting something big next year, but where does that leave CW? Still perplexed as to why they'd do all that work by minebuster and remove skyrider in such a hurry if we aren't getting anything new for at least a year. -

Like I said on CWMania, I really don't get why they did all this work (including removing skyrider & stating something would take its place), just to suddenly stop construction. I get that gatekeeper didn't start construction (or at least go vertical) until September, but still... Why do all this work and essentially leave the site unfinished? Do the construction crews have some kind of week off/holiday? -

My thoughts exactly! Looks like a great design. Would love to see one of these get built one day. -

^Visited there a few times myself. Sudbury's definetly not the most beautiful city in Canada, but certainly not the worst either! When I've visited friends there, always shocked how much greenery and water is around the area. In a way, guess it's like la ronde! (not great, but at least average). Anyway, back on topic to things down in southern Ontario. Anybody have word on construction activity at the park? -

There's a reason the park's called *Canada's* Wonderland... One of the only major parks in the country, probably due to the fact that the big cities here are fairly spread out, and therefore we have far less parks than the states. -

^Couldn't have said it better myself! Also seems like They've got a deal to put a B&M/Major attraction into CW every 4 years, looking at the trend with Leviathan and Behemoth. Also just playing devil's advocate though. What about the CP Dive Machine rumour? -

I can understand why they'd remove minebuster, but to me, it really seems like construction is starting a little too early for something in 2017, especally since they just closed skyrider. If minebuster was removed, this would be two years where rides were taken out. Furthermore, the ride(s) removed (skyrider being one of them) have some historical significance at the park. Doesn't seem like CW would get rid of two of their' "classic" coasters in that short a time span. After all, the press release about skyrider's removal last fall described the demolition as a "difficult decision". What I think would be more likely, is the temporary closure of minebuster so crews can either work to retrack/RMC it, or more likely, build "Ziz" around it. -

^Not sure where you heard this rumour. Personally don't think we'll see Ziz in 2016, most likely with a station or element in skyrider's spot. If the rumours about Minebuster are true, I'd actually think we'd see either major retracking or an RMC remake. Construction is simply starting too soon (and skyrider was removed too soon) for this land clearing to be for a 2017 addition. We're defiantly getting something in 2016. -

Or how the engineers failed to notice the reliability of a certain company's coasters *cough* Intamin *cough*. -
Can anyone ID this ride?

What's your favorite Flat ride?
canadianparkfan replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's all about personal preference. Some people just don't like spinning or rotating like that with a frisbee ride (even though it's not a fast spin) so they are more likely to prefer a Screamin' Swing. I've been on 2 Screamin' Swings and one frisbee ride, and I prefer the Screamin' Swings. Frisbees were my favorite flat until I rode Barnstormer at Dollywood last year and I normally don't like rides that spin (diskos make me nauseous for example). I think it was the airtime I get on the SS and they didn't have OTSRs like the frisbee I've been on (Rattler @ Wild Adventures). That explains it Rode a pirate ship at a local fair last week, and the minimal restraints gave some pretty wild airtime in the back rows. Can't even imagine what something like sky hawk would be like! Speaking of airtime on flats though, the best example I've done has to be the Intamin 2nd gen drop towers. The drop seems to start off with Ejector air. While not quite as forceful a yank out of your seat as the S&S towers, or most coasters, it's still pretty good. Once the initial jolt is over with, the airtime seems to last forever. It's this amazing floaty, yet forceful feeling. Personally rank the experience over the first drop of most coasters, including the b&m giga (Leviathan) that's right next to the Intamin tower at my home park. -

^Makes sense. Wonder if the landscaping is simply to fill in skyrider's old spot, or if it'll be the beginning of a plazza/entrance for the new attraction (Similar to that of behemoth and leviathan). -

^Interesting. Not sure what elevation markings would be for (Possibly an elevated section of track over the pathway?). Benchmarks, however sounds like a spot for a major element of a coaster/ride. -

^^Understand that, which is why I'm really not sure the article means anything. However, with the addition of thunderbird at HW, b&m has demonstrated that a launcher is within their abilities, and is definitely a possibility. -

After seeing the map of all the land clearing, totally confused as to what this could be. The idea of the maverick style coaster seems interesting though, even if it is unlikely. There was also this article posted on CWMania the other day, and some have said it could possibly hint at the new coaster having a splash down and a launch. Article: http://www.magazine.utoronto.ca/all-about-alumni/keeping-thrill-seekers-safe-joelle-javier-inspects-amusement-park-rides/?utm_source=DUAI&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=news_at_uoft&utm_content=May2015 Personally think it either hints to a water coaster for splash works (pro slide LIM version), or the above mentioned maverick/helix style coaster. Could also simply mean nothing as well. -

That'd be pretty cool. With the way the land clearing's going, it makes me think the coaster's layout could be essentially a huge lap around the perimeter of splash works. That'd also explain why the park put typhoon where it is, instead of placing it in an area of the water park that'd have more room for it, like by black hole.
