Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember reading they got rid of it because people complained about how "unfair" it was despite it making the line shorter for everyone. I don't know if that is the real reason though. It is a shame that it isn't used anymore since the ride is so low capacity to begin with and to see 2 seats go empty on a 12 seat train even makes it worse. -

I have been working on my video game backlog. I finally finished Grand Theft Auto 4 after 2 1/2 years of working on the game. I also went to Florida last month and went to Busch Gardens Tampa and all 4 WDW parks which was a nice coaster break right in the middle of the offseason. -
Mass ride removal trends

Antique Cars, it seems like a lot of parks have removed them recently. -
Cheetah Hunt Fitting??
YoshiFan replied to Cadeus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unfortunately, I don't think you will fit. I can fit in a non modified B&M seat (although barely) and at Cheetah Hunt, even if you can buckle the seatbelt, the restraint may not be lowered enough for the ride to be dispatched. I saw that happen to someone else where they had to really push on the OTSR to have it lowered more and for my 2nd ride a ride op pushed down the restraint more so it could dispatch even though in both cases the restraint was buckled. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Expedition Everest yesterday, my favorite Vekoma coaster. I'm glad I was able to ride some coasters in the middle of the offseason since it's tough going 5 months without any coasters normally. -

I got the e-mail too since I bought tickets for Lake Compounce online last year. I submitted my information since it looked legitimate to me. -
Andy Shine's Quiz Time

25 out of 26, if I had gone with my 1st choice without rethinking about it on the one I got wrong, I would have had 26 out of 26. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wonder how much they will charge (I am guessing $75+ a person). I am hoping to go to Cedar Point in the next few years and I was concerned about being able to ride all the coasters in 1 day, now that won't be an issue. -
The one at Dutch Wonderland was awesome. It was a lot more fun that the smaller 3 lane slides they have now. Playland's Castway Cove in Ocean City, NJ also has a 3 lane slide. Morey's had one of the larger models but didn't seem as good as the one at Dutch Wonderland. The other problem with the one at Morey's was that they only ran 1 lane at a time despite it having around 12 lanes so it was a long wait even when there weren't a lot of people in line.

Most. OverRated. Ride. of 2012.
YoshiFan replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure if it counts because it is a relocated ride but Stinger at Dorney. I don't have a problem with relocated rides if they are good rides like Chang/Green Lantern but after getting an impulse coaster that has a lot of down time, a 1st gen freefall that is rough when there was already a modern drop tower in the park and now this coaster, I would rather have seen it not be relocated to the park, not to mention it is another vertical shuttle coaster so even though it is different than an impulse, they are still too close in ride type for me to be installed one after another. Plus throw in the bad history the ride has and the problems the other models have had and that the park lost a great Anton looper and this is the replacement is bad. One of the press releases said it was $10 million investment. A new GCI could have been built for less and would have been a better fit for the park. It also has a 52" height requirement and the last thing Dorney needed was another coaster with a high requirement. Of the 7 non kiddie coasters, 2 are 48", 2 are 52" and 2 are 54" I know it could be said the ride isn't overrated because it's a boomerang which usually aren't that popular with enthusiasts (inverted or not) but the general opinion seems to be positive for the ride except for those that have Dorney as a local park and that's why I think it is overrated. -
2011.. What was your highlight?
YoshiFan replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
2 highlights for me First was going to Universal Orlando and riding the coasters in the Studios park and going to Islands of Adventure for the 1st time. Dueling Dragons and the Hulk had been coasters I have wanted to try for years. Dueling Dragons lived up to the hype and the Hulk did too (except for it being a little rougher than I was expecting) Second was getting to try a stand up coaster. I know they don't have the greatest reputation among enthusiasts but when I heard Great Adventure was getting Chang, I was looking forward to finally getting the chance to ride a stand up coaster. I found it to be a great coaster and another nice coaster addition to Great Adventure. -
Walt Disney World in January
YoshiFan replied to coastermaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Marathon Weekend is the 7th and 8th, marathon races are run all over the WDW area. I was there the first week in January this year and last year. Last year crowds weren't too bad but this year they picked up more. It wasn't jammed but the major rides had up to an hour wait standby. Over at Universal, IoA was packed, Forbidden Journey was posted at 120 minutes standby in the middle of the day on the Wednesday of that week. I later found out that schools went back later than normal this year because of the way the holidays fell on the calendar. I think the same thing will happen this year because this year they offered free dining the first week of January, for 2012 they did not until the 2nd week. It can be warm or freezing. Last year, it was in the 40's most days and one day we left the hotel to go to Animal Kingdom and it was 39 out. By night it was in the mid 30's. This year, it was in the 70's and much more comfortable. Because Big Thunder Mountain is closing on January 9th, Splash Mountain will not be closed this year. -
What are you most excited for in 2012?
YoshiFan replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Skyrush, probably the only new for 2012 coaster I will ride not counting Stinger. -

Last time I was there for Christmas Candylane, the Wave Swinger was open and they moved one of the Merry Dip Fun Slides into Comet Hollow as well. -
Moreys Piers Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to LcHg5265's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The new trains caused less headbanging but I noticed a rattle/vibration throughout the entire ride the entire circuit when I rode the coaster in 2008 and 2009. It was so bad that I didn't go for re-rides on either trip even though it was a 1 or 2 train wait. I hope to get there next year to try it. I won't miss Jersey Junkyard. I waited almost 20 minutes for it in 2005 and couldn't believe how short the ride was and not that great. I will miss Curse of the Mummy a little but not too much. I'd like to see Morey's get an interactive dark ride at some point though. -
The LoQ for phones is already being used at Lake Compounce. I used it last year and it was great. You buy credits for $1.00 each and each ride takes a certain number of credits, 1 - 3 depending on the ride and crowds that day. When I was there the coasters were 2 credits each, everything else was 1 credit. It was well worth $1.00 per person to skip a 30 minute line at Ghost Hunt and the Log Flume.

The Off-Season Survival Thread
YoshiFan replied to ernierocker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I guess reading coaster/park message boards and playing a lot of video games. Unfortunately, my other main interest after riding coasters is baseball which almost follows the coaster season, from April to October so it makes the off season extra boring. I'm considering going to Sesame Place next month for their holiday event since it is only a 30 minute drive and their Vekoma Jr. Coaster is going to be open if it is warm enough out, so that will at least give me a small coaster fix. And every year I'm still hoping that Hershey will consider at least opening up a coaster or two for Christmas Candylane. I'd gladly drive almost 2 hours even for Trailblazer. I don't understand why they can't. Sunday at Great Adventure it was in the mid 30's during the last hour the park was open and they didn't shut down any rides because of the cold so the rides can run in cold weather. April 7th (Great Adventure's opening day) can't come soon enough. -
Six Flags Surveys Meal Options
YoshiFan replied to CardCraze's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Whatever they decide, if it is reasonably priced and not limited hours I will consider getting it. Since getting a Great Adventure pass in 2008 and going to the park 59 times from 2008 - 2011, I have eaten in the park twice because I am not willing to pay the prices they charge for food. A burger and fries is $10.99, add a soda for $3.49 and it's over $15 with tax. I almost always eat right outside the park at WaWa and can get a sandwich, a bag of chips and a soda for under $6 and sometimes plan my trips to the park so I am not in the park during meal time or can wait until after I leave the park, like if I am going from 5:30 to 10:00 like this past Sunday, I had a late lunch and ate dinner after I got home. With a meal plan, I'd probably stop doing that and eat at the park every time I am there. I know season passholders have a reputation of not spending money in parks, but I do spend money on arcade games and will occasionally buy some souvenir when they have discounted items. -
Great Adventure never lets people coming up the exit have the front or back row unless there are so many people at the exit it can fill up a whole train (Spring Break 2010, I had a Funatics exit pass and still had to wait 20 minutes for Nitro and a couple of times they let exit pass people take the whole train and I got the last row). They also require a boarding time for anyone with a disability, they have to wait the length of the line just not in the actual line. I saw people getting a ride time last week.
