Great photos, the park looks like it is amazing. -
Floored or Floorless?
YoshiFan replied to dropthefloor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I preferred the sit-down version with the floor. Floorless is gimmicky to me and unless you are in the front row you don't get the floorless effect. -
It rarely has more than a 5 - 10 minute wait while the water park is open. I was there this past Wednesday. In the middle of the day, Talon was less than 5 minutes, Hydra looked to be around 15 minutes, Possessed was a little less than 10 minutes, Thunderhawk looked to be around 20 minutes (1 train running) and Wild Mouse looked to be 45 - 60 minutes. Every flat ride I walked by had either a 1 cycle wait or was a walk on. Crowds were a little heavier because there were a ton of camp groups. Once the water park closes, then the ride side gets crowded but on a weekday, it still shouldn't be too bad. I would get to the waterpark at opening and go right to Aquablast, the waterpark gets long lines but Aquablast can easily get a 45 minute wait a couple of hours after opening. Every time I ride Thunder Creek Mountain I get soaked. The small drop right before where you go under the lift hill has a wave of water that always lands on me. I won't ride it unless I am also going to the water park. I just wear my regular water park clothes on the ride, a tank top, swim trunks and aqua socks (I usually ride it after Thunder Canyon and White Water Landing).

Six Flags raises parking fees.
YoshiFan replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You would have lost your money if you invested a few years ago. I invested $100 when they were trying to reorganize, but lost it when they went bankrupt. I'm now trying to decide if I want to invest in it again, as they are doing really well, but their current stock price is a little high with how much I'm willing to spend in total. I understand that Six Flags is a business, but I just hope they find a way to increase guest happiness, improve the parks, but still manage to keep in strong financial shape. It might take a few years, but I can dream. The same thing happened to me. I bought 100 shares when they were $0.20 a share and lost all of it. -
The Most Shocking Ride Removals
YoshiFan replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great American Scream Machine, it was running very well in 2010 and was one of the more reliable coasters in the park plus there was S&S and Vekoma if it ever needed new parts. It would have been nice to see Green Lantern added near the rapids like originally planned so they could have kept the coaster. -
Six Flags raises parking fees.
YoshiFan replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought most parks charged the regular rate for handicap parking but still let them use the preferred lot. Great Adventure handicap parking is in the preferred parking lot and the first few rows of the preferred parking lot are all handicap spaces and they charge anyone parking in a handicap space the non preferred parking rate. Same with Hershey, they charge regular parking but handicap parking is in the preferred lot. -
It's rare I spend more than 3 hours at Dorney, especially if I am just going to the ride side. I can get 1 ride on Talon, Hydra, Thunderhawk, Possessed and Steel Force in around an hour on most days and I am to the point where I am tired of the rides so I rarely get more than 2 rides on any coaster on a trip to the park even without lines. I really would like to see a GCI added or something different. Even if Invertigo didn't have such a bad history, it's not a coaster I would go for multiple rides on each trip.

Dark rides question....
YoshiFan replied to outbackjack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both my home parks (Dorney and Great Adventure) don't have dark rides. My most wanted rides for both parks is a dark ride, a standard or an interactive one. I have heard a few reasons why. In Dorney's case, Cedar Fair is supposedly against dark rides which would make sense considering they removed Journey to the Center of the Earth as soon as they took over the park and that Cedar Point also has no dark ride. The other reasons I have heard is capacity which I think is just an excuse since a park could get vehicles like Reese's at Hershey that seats 8 people at once (2 cars of 4), or an omnimover type ride. The other reason I heard is that if a park gets rough crowds, they are worried about people damaging the rides. I think that could be solved by using lap bars again like Reese's at Hershey. -
Nice photos Looks like Gillian's Wonderland Pier got the Fiesta Express from the Gillian's in Sea Isle City since they sent the Wacky Worm from Wonderland Pier to Sea Isle City. I missed the credit at Storybook Land by a couple of months and can't get myself to pay $22 just to get the credit. Agreed about Atlantic City. The casino's are nice but the Boardwalk and surrounding areas are horrible. Despite being in Atlantic City a lot over the past few years, I don't have either credit at Steel Pier because it's expensive and I don't trust the safety of the rides especially after the log flume accident a few years ago where they ran the log flume drop or part after the drop without water and people got injured.

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
YoshiFan replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree Steel Force is a great coaster, I think it's the 2nd best in the park right after Talon. The fact it rarely has a wait (along with the other coasters at Dorney) also doesn't hurt. My last coaster was Nitro at Great Adventure on Wednesday -
A few years ago I remember reading that the signs are based on the wait time if 1 train is running which based on the time on the signs seems accurate. The problem with the signs is that people see them and think the wait is really that long and turn around and exit the line. I remember last year in line for Nitro it was just before the 60 minute sign. 2 people said they didn't want to wait an hour and were about to leave until I told them it should be about 20 minutes and they decided to stay in line. I have also had that happen at other coasters at the rapids. I think Kingda Ka closed led to lines being a little longer than normal, I got 14 rides in 3 1/4 hours. The Log Flume broke down around 4:30 and they had to evacuate it, it opened up around 25 minutes later without any problems.

Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I could see SF considering it especially with how popular Green Lantern at Great Adventure is. -
That would be great, along with bringing back the season pass lot if possible. I have never been to the park on one of those Saturday's in the summer but I have seen pictures and the parking situation is horrible. Besides the overflow lot being a very long walk to the gates, they sometimes have to park cars on the grass on the side of the overflow lot.

Thunderhawk at Dorney on Monday. -
The Flying Wave was having a lot of problems since it was so old. There was no excuse to not replace it with a new swing ride though especially since they aren't that expensive compared to a major flat or a coaster. Hopefully we get a new swing ride next year along with some other rides. If Red Zone was in control, who knows what other flats they would have removed since they removed and closed so many rides in such a short amount of time and the only rides they added were The Dark Knight and a 3rd plane ride (4th if you count the Royal Elephants which is basically the same ride)
-
Those ride prices are crazy, it makes Knoebels look expensive! $0.25 for the kiddie rides, $0.50 for the flats and $1 for the coaster. That has got to be the cheapest park in the country.

I don't think it is any worse than in past years with some of the same problems as in past seasons like Rolling Thunder's slow dispatches and Superman stacking and Bizarro double stacking. Unfortunately, I don't see Superman or Bizarro having faster dispatches unless they have more than 2 people checking restraints. In the beginning of the season Nitro's 3rd train wasn't ready which wasn't good with spring break crowds but multiple trains have been running on the coasters every time I have gone to the park. In 6 visits to the park this season, I have seen 2 trains on Skull Mountain every time, at least 2 trains on Nitro and Bizarro every time, 2 trains on Superman except for 1 trip when it was a walk on with 1 train running, 2 trains on Runaway Mine Train every time, and 3 trains on Kingda Ka every time. In some ways, operations are better. Last Thursday the Skyway was running both sides all day even after 5:00 when it had no wait. With RedZone in control, I very rarely saw both sides running at all.

Steel Force about 4 1/2 hours ago -
I had always thought that the actual holiday of a holiday weekend like Labor Day and Memorial Day were empty, but I found out that wasn't the case when I went to the park on Labor Day 2009. I only got 6 rides in around 3 1/2 hours (in the middle of the day). It sounds like today was even more crowded. Hopefully with daily operations now, crowds will still be low during the week for the next few weeks like in past years. After the crowds last week, I'm not so sure. Did they reconfigure the queue? If the merge point is at the stairs, the Flashpass users could still have a 15 - 20 minute wait with the slow dispatches the ride always has. I guess that also means from now on the right side is going to be the side running on days when they only ride one side.
-
Flashpass merges at the station for Nitro, Bizarro, El Toro, Batman, Superman, Kingda Ka and I think Green Lantern so you can pick your row. Dark Knight merges at the pre show, Skull Moutain uses car 5, Rolling Thunder also uses the middle rows and Runaway Mine Train has 1 row in the middle reserved for Flashpass. ^^^The pathway in the Golden Kingdom is closed

At opening, go to Green Lantern then stop at Superman, go to Kingda Ka and then El Toro. Those are going to be the 4 rides with the worst lines. After that, I would go to Bizarro, go on the Log Flume if you want (I know it isn't a coaster but it can get a very long line later in the day) and take the Skyway over to the other side of the park and ride Batman and Nitro. That would take care of all the major coasters.
