Photo TR: Hannover carnival Oct. 2nd

Until the accident on the Zamperla Wild Mouse at Gillian's in Ocean City, NJ in 1999, the City Jet at Gillian's, Flitzer and Miler Wild Mouse at Playland's Castaway Cove all ran without restraints. It was a lot of fun riding a coaster with no type of restraint. Sadly all had seatbelts added to them. Great photos, that log flume looked really nicely themed. -
I miss all the Intamin Ag 1st Gen Free Falls!
YoshiFan replied to VMan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have only ridden Demon Drop at Dorney and am not really a fan of the ride. I don't like the cars, if you have broad shoulders there really isn't enough room between seats and if you sit at one of the end seats, there isn't a lot of room there either. The drop itself is great but it is really painful at the part where you are lowered from lying down to reversing. Not about the ride itself but I also wasn't happy to see the bumper cars removed for the ride. -
The first Friday night of Frightfest is usually very empty, this year they were actually going to be closed that night but I guess because they moved the buyout, they decided to open the park not just for those attending the Gay night. I was there today and I agree that they really tried to keep the lines moving. I wasn't sure how great operations would be since I thought it might be difficult to find enough ride ops to work on a Monday in October but everything was running the maximum amount of trains and they had both sides of Rolling Thunder and the Skyway open plus the Log Flume. I was very impressed.

What do you do when someone cuts in line?
YoshiFan replied to Schotcher's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I let it go for 2 reasons. First I usually go to parks alone so if it's a group cutting, I don't want to take any chances after seeing past altercations with others. Secondly, even if I did report it, nothing will happen when I go to Great Adventure which is probably around half my park trips. Twice I have been in line for Superman and have been cut, others near me in line reported it and both times the cutters didn't get in trouble at all and the first time, the group was threatened by the cutters after the guards left. Even at Dorney where I also go to a lot, they usually get away with it. Only once did I see someone removed from the line. It bothers me when people cut in line but I just deal with it. -

Rolling Thunder right track at Great Adventure 2 days ago. -
There are so many visits I skip Rolling Thunder because of how slow the dispatches are. In June, the line was still in the station and it was close to a 20 minute wait only having to wait 4 trains. I won't wait more than 2 trains. 2 weeks ago the line was just at the end of the stairs. In the mid 90's, that would have been a 15 minute wait, now it's probably close to 45 minutes.

Longest Queue and Most Excessive Switchbacks
YoshiFan replied to tribar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Superman at Great Adventure, there are only 2 small sets of switchbacks so most of the queue is just a long walk to the station. Even without any line it takes a while to walk through it. Green Lantern at Great Adventure for excessive switchbacks, I know they have been used but the entire set of switchbacks at the beginning of the queue can't be bypassed so when that part of the line is not full, you either have to walk through all of them or climb through an opening (which I don't like doing but if you don't, others will and then you get cut). Kingda Ka's original queue, I know it was only used for a few months but I remember hearing it could hold a 7 or 8 hour line. -

Dorney Park's Halloween Haunt - TR
YoshiFan replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sounds like the complete opposite of opening night for Haunt last year, 90 degrees and no rain. I was originally planning to go tonight but I didn't even expect the park to open and didn't feel like walking around in the rain. -
Ride Attendant Foul-Ups

Disney World doesn't on most coasters (or all of them?). They ask you to check the restraint yourself to make sure it is locked. -

Portable Coasters

Doppel Looping (Laser) is the best portable coaster I have ridden. I still wish it was at Dorney -
POLL: Waterslide Riding Position?
YoshiFan replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only waterpark I go to is WWK at Dorney and they want you to cross your arms. They are kind of strict about it. Some of the lifeguards tell you to cross your arms and legs every time you slide, even if you are going for your 5th slide in a row at the same slide complex when there is no line. -
Link Attractions? If they're adding what was on the surveys, looks like the 200 foot Sky Screamer along with the bumper cars, musik express, and I believe an elephant ride got better responses than the 300 foot Sky Screamer and nothing else. I'm predicting they opt for a 150 foot model along with the bumper cars and the music express. They'll get the elephant tide too, but it will just be moved from Golden Kingdom. I'm guessing they make up for the shorter SkyScreamer by making the four attractions into a new/revisioned themed area. Hopefully, I'm still a little worried the Parachutes are going to be replaced with the SkyScreamer.

Halloween at CP, DP, KD, KI
YoshiFan replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have only been to Dorney out of those parks for a Halloween event but Haunt is amazing. There are I think 3 new attractions this year (replacing some older ones) and 11 or 12 total Haunt attractions now. After 6:00, there can be actors anywhere in the park. Generally Friday and Sunday aren't bad, Saturday is very crowded. The bad thing is for the 16th and a few other Sundays, there is no Haunt since I think they got complaints about the kids areas closing at 5:00 and now on those Sundays, the park is only open until 8:00. All rides are open, except the water rides and Road Rally (it is used for a Haunt walkthrough). Thunderhawk and Scrambler close at 5:00 each day (they don't open on Friday at all). -
Stupid Moves that Parks have made
YoshiFan replied to tribar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dorney removing bumper cars for an old outdated freefall ride when they have already had a modern drop tower for over 10 years and removing a Schwarzkopf looper and it's replacement being a faulty inverted boomerang. The Boardwalk at Hersheypark. It should have never been built where it was and should have been away from the middle of the park or a separate gate. It's way too small for the crowds the park gets and it already has caused other rides to be removed. They removed the awesome Canyon River Rapids for the wavepool and lazy river which still isn't enough. Who ever heard of a park having a line to get into a wavepool let alone a 45 minute line some days? East Coast Waterworks is a disaster, it's so crowded and the lines for the slides are very unorganized causing pushing and line cutting. Great Adventure closing (SBNO) or removing 35 rides in just over 10 years. Less than 10 flats in such a big park is horrible. -

Steel Force at Dorney about 2 1/2 hours ago. I decided to take advantage of the fact that Dorney decided to open today unlike almost every other park in the area.
