Behemoth & Leviathan

Dorney with getting Voodoo and then Invertigo the same years CW is adding their 2 new coasters. I know they are somewhat different rides but both are inverted shuttle coasters. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
YoshiFan replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Flitzer at Playland's Castaway Cover in Ocean City, NJ, 2 days ago -
I'm surprised the place is still open. I stopped there a few years ago on the way to Orlando and the place was empty except for a wedding that was taking place there.

Maybe they change it on days when there are a lot of school trips? If they are able to have a rope drop on those days, they need to have it like that on all days. I agree about Demon Drop, I rode it once this season and really have no interest in riding it again this year. It really was very painful at the part where you lower from lying down to reversing.

I'm not willing to wait longer than 10 minutes for anything at Dorney except Talon and Steel Force. I have skipped Thunderhawk a lot this year because it always is running 1 train on the weekdays and has been getting a 20+ minute line a lot of times this season when I have been there. Not related to that but they just posted Haunt hours that were cut back this year. Now for 4 out of 6 Sunday's the park closes at 8:00 and it is Boo Blast all day with no Haunt attractions open. I agree, they really need to fix this. Not opening up the turnstyles at the entrance until a few minutes after 10:00 causes huge backups. It would be better if they copied Great Adventure and Disney and let you into the front of the park and then have a rope drop.

Today was way more crowded than a normal summer weekday. I couldn't believe how many camp trips there were. I ended up skipping Talon because I wasn't willing to wait 30 minutes after the waterpark closed. I did manage to ride Steel Force twice, Possessed and Dominator from 4:10 to 5:00 and Hydra with a 2 train wait a little after 7:00. The only time to go to the waterpark once school lets out is either at opening or 2 hours before closing (except starting in mid August when it closes at 6 everyday). I was in the waterpark from 5:15 - 7:00 and managed to get 15 slides and 1 lap on the lazy river.

Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Screamscape is saying the ride rotation program is probably going to return with Iron Wolf likely going to SFA and rumors of Deja Vu going to SFNE. -
Unless something has changed since last month, Skull Mountain assigns Flashpass to car 5, Runaway Mine Train assigns Flashpass to the first row of the 3rd car. Rolling Thunder now merges before the stairs (which can still be a 20+ minute wait with the slow dispatches if filled), Kingda Ka merges at the path to walk to the station, Rapids go up the exit and to the further staircase and everything else either merges at the station or at the stairs to the station (like Superman).

Tallest coaster you've been on.

I can understand why tourists from Brazil would spend so much shopping in Florida. I remember being very surprised when I found out how much more expensive items are in Brazil, like when the Playstation 2 was launched for $500 US in 2009 when it was I think $99 in the US at the time (http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/11/today-in-brazil-sony-officially-launched-the-playstation-2/)

As much as I like Dorney, I agree with everyone else it that it probably isn't the park to go to. Without the waterpark, you can easily ride all the coasters and the major flats in under 3 hours most days while the waterpark is open. I have been able to ride Talon, Hydra, Thunderhawk, Possessed and Steel Force in under an hour before which is fine for spending a few hours at your home park but not as a destination park.

Great photos, the park looks like it is amazing. -
Floored or Floorless?
YoshiFan replied to dropthefloor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I preferred the sit-down version with the floor. Floorless is gimmicky to me and unless you are in the front row you don't get the floorless effect. -
It rarely has more than a 5 - 10 minute wait while the water park is open. I was there this past Wednesday. In the middle of the day, Talon was less than 5 minutes, Hydra looked to be around 15 minutes, Possessed was a little less than 10 minutes, Thunderhawk looked to be around 20 minutes (1 train running) and Wild Mouse looked to be 45 - 60 minutes. Every flat ride I walked by had either a 1 cycle wait or was a walk on. Crowds were a little heavier because there were a ton of camp groups. Once the water park closes, then the ride side gets crowded but on a weekday, it still shouldn't be too bad. I would get to the waterpark at opening and go right to Aquablast, the waterpark gets long lines but Aquablast can easily get a 45 minute wait a couple of hours after opening. Every time I ride Thunder Creek Mountain I get soaked. The small drop right before where you go under the lift hill has a wave of water that always lands on me. I won't ride it unless I am also going to the water park. I just wear my regular water park clothes on the ride, a tank top, swim trunks and aqua socks (I usually ride it after Thunder Canyon and White Water Landing).

Six Flags raises parking fees.
YoshiFan replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You would have lost your money if you invested a few years ago. I invested $100 when they were trying to reorganize, but lost it when they went bankrupt. I'm now trying to decide if I want to invest in it again, as they are doing really well, but their current stock price is a little high with how much I'm willing to spend in total. I understand that Six Flags is a business, but I just hope they find a way to increase guest happiness, improve the parks, but still manage to keep in strong financial shape. It might take a few years, but I can dream. The same thing happened to me. I bought 100 shares when they were $0.20 a share and lost all of it. -
The Most Shocking Ride Removals
YoshiFan replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great American Scream Machine, it was running very well in 2010 and was one of the more reliable coasters in the park plus there was S&S and Vekoma if it ever needed new parts. It would have been nice to see Green Lantern added near the rapids like originally planned so they could have kept the coaster. -
Six Flags raises parking fees.
YoshiFan replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought most parks charged the regular rate for handicap parking but still let them use the preferred lot. Great Adventure handicap parking is in the preferred parking lot and the first few rows of the preferred parking lot are all handicap spaces and they charge anyone parking in a handicap space the non preferred parking rate. Same with Hershey, they charge regular parking but handicap parking is in the preferred lot. -
It's rare I spend more than 3 hours at Dorney, especially if I am just going to the ride side. I can get 1 ride on Talon, Hydra, Thunderhawk, Possessed and Steel Force in around an hour on most days and I am to the point where I am tired of the rides so I rarely get more than 2 rides on any coaster on a trip to the park even without lines. I really would like to see a GCI added or something different. Even if Invertigo didn't have such a bad history, it's not a coaster I would go for multiple rides on each trip.

Dark rides question....
YoshiFan replied to outbackjack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both my home parks (Dorney and Great Adventure) don't have dark rides. My most wanted rides for both parks is a dark ride, a standard or an interactive one. I have heard a few reasons why. In Dorney's case, Cedar Fair is supposedly against dark rides which would make sense considering they removed Journey to the Center of the Earth as soon as they took over the park and that Cedar Point also has no dark ride. The other reasons I have heard is capacity which I think is just an excuse since a park could get vehicles like Reese's at Hershey that seats 8 people at once (2 cars of 4), or an omnimover type ride. The other reason I heard is that if a park gets rough crowds, they are worried about people damaging the rides. I think that could be solved by using lap bars again like Reese's at Hershey. -
Nice photos Looks like Gillian's Wonderland Pier got the Fiesta Express from the Gillian's in Sea Isle City since they sent the Wacky Worm from Wonderland Pier to Sea Isle City. I missed the credit at Storybook Land by a couple of months and can't get myself to pay $22 just to get the credit. Agreed about Atlantic City. The casino's are nice but the Boardwalk and surrounding areas are horrible. Despite being in Atlantic City a lot over the past few years, I don't have either credit at Steel Pier because it's expensive and I don't trust the safety of the rides especially after the log flume accident a few years ago where they ran the log flume drop or part after the drop without water and people got injured.
