What Makes or Breaks a Ride For You?
YoshiFan replied to ultradude306's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
More than anything how smooth the ride is. I don't need every ride to be smooth like most B&M coasters but if a ride is so uncomfortable that it gives you a headache, then it's not something something I will try more than once. -
I was there yesterday and also saw the very slow dispatches on Superman taking around 5 minutes for each dispatch so I can understand why that must have been a horrible wait. It was a 2 train wait for me and if you count waiting those 2 trains and sitting in the train waiting for it to dispatch the total wait time was around 15 minutes. I rarely ride Superman Ultimate Flight (maybe 5 times a season) and I just hope it was new ride ops getting used to working at the ride and dispatches will be a little faster like they normally are (but still are slow because of the restraints). I would have rather seen them run 1 train since I hate having my head titled down on the brake run waiting for the other train to dispatch and we were sitting on the brake run for around 3 minutes. On the plus side, Bizarro's crew was the best I have seen in years with no stacking compared to the past few years where they stacked with 2 trains and double stacked with 3 trains almost every time.

What will be the FIRST coaster you ride in 2013?
YoshiFan replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It ended up being Kingda Ka earlier today. -
I'm leaving the park now, crowds were very light today as I expected. Nitro, Bizarro and Green Lantern were all running 2 trains. Kingda Ka was running 1 train, one train was being worked on, the other one was on the transfer track with restraints missing. It was still less than 15 minutes unless you wanted the front. When I was riding Runaway Mine Train I saw El Toro was testing with water dummies.

Best Family Coaster
YoshiFan replied to Randomman295's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah I agree Blackbeard's is a great coaster, I ride it almost every trip to the park since it rarely has more than a 1 cycle wait. -
Best Family Coaster
YoshiFan replied to Randomman295's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
sooperdooperlooper, low height requirement, excellent restraints and it's a really good first looping coaster. -
I was there that day from 5 to 10 pm. It started off in the low 40's when I got there but the last hour or so the park was open it got into the mid 30's (according to my phone). I was very surprised to see all the coasters open except Kingda Ka like you mentioned. I took off my glove to buckle the seatbelt on Green Lantern and just touching the cold metal for a couple of seconds was horrible. They even were running multiple trains on the coasters, and it was surprisingly crowded for how cold it was. A lot less than a typical Sunday during Fright Fest but the major coasters were still 30 - 40 minutes. Opening weekend 2010 it was in the 30's on Saturday and 40's on Sunday. I went on Sunday and all coasters were open, even Kingda Ka. Sitting in the front row with it that cold was something different and it was freezing at the top of the top hat. They even had the log flume running both days that weekend.

Your First Schwarzkopf Coaster?
YoshiFan replied to SingleRiderCam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
City Jet at Gillian's Wonderland Pier sometime in the mid 90s The first time I rode the coaster, I was surprised that there was no kind of lap bar, seat belt or any other restraint. I then found out the 2 coasters at Playland a few blocks down the boardwalk (Flitzer and Mighty Mouse) also didn't have any kind of restraint either. Although the Runaway Train at Gillian's is a fun coaster, I miss the City Jet. -
Why Does Everybody Hate on Six Flags?
YoshiFan replied to eltororider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only Six Flags park I have been to is Great Adventure and I generally have good visits to the park. Other than Rolling Thunder and Bizarro with slow dispatches (Green Lantern too but I blame that on the park visitors who still insist on sitting on the bicycle seats even after an announcement is made when every train is loaded to stand up), operations are usually very good. In the late 90's and early 2000's I had some really bad trips to the park so much that I stayed away until 2007 when I had such a great time I decided to get a season pass for 2008. Based on this thread and just reading coaster/park sites for years I realize that not all the parks are as good though. I have passed the SFA area couple of times since becoming an enthusiast but after reading how bad the park is and the bad operations, I haven't been able to convince myself to stop even for a credit run (especially since I am on the only SF passholder in my family and none of my friends have passes either). The value is amazing as some others have already mentioned which helps me overlook the few things I don't like about the park. With the season dining pass this year for around $200 I am getting unlimited visits to the theme park and Hurricane Harbor, parking all season and 2 meals a day every time I go to the park. -
Unique Coaster Elements
YoshiFan replied to OrientExpressForever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hydra's inclined dive loops is the only one around and the JoJo roll is somewhat unique. I think it's one of the only coasters with an inversion right out of the station (I know there is an Supersonic Odyssey with a heartline roll before the lift hill but not right out of the station). -

Age restrictions on rides?
YoshiFan replied to andre8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This past season, Dorney added a rule to their Wild Mouse that anyone under 8 isn't allowed to ride, even if they meet the height requirement (the sign basically said "Minimum 8 years old to participate"). So someone under 8 and is over 48" can ride Steel Force and Thunderhawk but not Wild Mouse. There is also a sign at Hangtime (Top Spin) saying not recommended for anyone under 10. I can't say I am that surprised though considering it is Cedar Fair. It's just too bad now that for anyone under 8 and under 48", the only coaster they can ride in the entire park is now Woodstock's Express. -
SFGAdv Trip Report
YoshiFan replied to JRHcoasterki's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A wheel seat and a non wheel seat makes a big difference for Rolling Thunder. It is almost smooth in a non wheel seat but a non wheel seat is brutal. Last month I sat in a wheel seat and it was so bad I had to sit down for a few minutes afterwards. -
Hydra has it's first riders!
YoshiFan replied to jarmor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have ridden it every year since the ride opened. I used to like it more before I rode other B&M coasters, especially Medusa/Bizarro at Great Adventure and saw that Hydra wasn't as great. I do like the inclined dive loop, but as others mentioned the rattling can be really bad to the point where I skip it some trips to the park. I'd rather spend my time at Talon and Steel Force. -
2012-- What was your highlight?
YoshiFan replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!

Trip to Gilroy Gardens
YoshiFan replied to Flagg O'Dim's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tivoli coasters are so much fun for that reason. I love sitting in the back on those because you just get thrown up and to the side going over the drop, and having un-cushioned, slippery seats with no divider in between them makes it that much better. Blackbeard's Lost Treasure Train at Great Adventure is a seriously under-rated coaster in my opinion. I try to ride Blackbeard's almost every trip to Great Adventure, I also like the last row for the reasons you mentioned and also because it rarely has a line later in the day. -

What was your first B&M Coaster?
YoshiFan replied to thrillseeker4552's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great Bear, August 2005. I had ridden my first SLC Great Nor'Easter a couple of weeks before that and I couldn't believe the difference between a B&M invert and the SLC.
