Why do kiddie coaster credits matter to you?
michaellynn4 replied to edh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I've done trips with my ex-fiance, I managed to get her really into counting credits as well (it was in her competitive nature), so hitting up the kiddie coasters was a lot more fun since we'd do them together. My new girlfriend thinks my hobby is really cool, and we've incorporated parks on our recent trip (Lake Compounce, SFNE), but she's not into counting credits, so when I hit up the Great Chase at SFNE, I had to do it all by my lonesome .It's definitely a lot less fun doing it by youself and getting weird looks from parents. I don't think I'm going to really go after them unless I'm with a large group of enthusiasts or there's absolutely no line. I'd like to have the credits, but not THAT badly. -
I don't think it's necessaily about the station itself (those rust stains have practically been there since the first rainfall after it opened in 2001), but the general state of it's queue / surrounding area. Tons of weeds, sparse gravel, general unkemptness. I don't agree with a lot of the comments accusing the park as being dirty with "cracked paths" everywhere, but the Nitro queue is in some serious need of TLC.

Your guilty pleasure ride
michaellynn4 replied to DanTheBooker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been known to marathon Skull Mountain in the back row. Especially if it's at night and there's as little light in the building as possible. It's actually one of the few rides I enjoy marathoning. -
^ When I was at the park the other day to ride both, I noticed that if they have the second train ready to go while the first train is waiting to launch, they still send the second one up behind it like in the past (when two trains per side were dispatched simultaneously) and have it wait so the third train can get loaded. By the point the third train is ready, enough time has passed and the first train has launched. I basically view it that instead of the trains stacking in the back, they stack in the front a bit. There's no real downtime in the station at all that prevents loading / unloading from moving like normal.

Lake Compounce Discussion Thread

This is a couple weeks old by now, but I just wanted to say that per your recommendation, Larry, my girlfriend and I got that ice cream nacho dessert when we visited Lake Compounce. It was definitely a highlight of the visit! Thanks! Rikki is very grateful... -
Longest queue line
michaellynn4 replied to Sprint390g's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Green Lantern @ SFGAdv. Boss @ SFStL. Phantom's Revenge @ Kennywood. -
I think this mostly is due to NJ playing hardball about potential simultaneous operations with Kingda Ka. I think they may be purposefully dragging things out because of the park's pushback. Can't say for certain, but the ride's seemingly been ready for a couple weeks now - I don't see how the park wouldn't have already done everything they could to get the state's operational permit ASAP. EDIT: Then again, SFDK's V2 debacle comes to mind.... and SFNE's phamton Dark Knight coaster... ...Finger wags all around.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
michaellynn4 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode Diamondback a few times last year on my trip to KI and have no complaints. A good coaster, standard B&M hyper. Nothing crazy, nothing terrible. -
I know the answer to this one, so I will answer. New Jersey has a law banning the T-bars, so they can't use them on Kingda Ka. El Toro doesn't have the either. This just seems like a weird law. By the way, those videos of Kingda Ka and Zumanjaro running together makes me want to get out there as soon as it opens - the structure will probably shake a lot while the gondolas are waiting to drop. Also, the gondolas appear to be going faster than Kingda Ka when they fall! It's probably just due to deceleration of speed on Ka, though (Hasn't reached top speed on the descent until later) I never knew that... how is this okay then? (I have no idea who the people are in this picture but they look like they love Nitro lol) The guy on the left is Cory - he posts over on Negative-G. The pic is from Paul Drabek's SFGAdv trip report.

michaellynn4 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was originally going to do LC tomorrow and SFNE Wednesday, but I think I'm going to switch it up in order to buy me an insurance day so they can hopefully get it back up in time. I really hope they do, I've never been there and was looking forward to this specific coaster for months. -

Best Seat on a BTR Clone?
michaellynn4 replied to canadianparkfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Back row, outside seat. Nothing beats being ripped through the corkscrews in that seat. I usually prefer the right (or left on mirrored rides) so I can have a scenic view going down the first drop. -

Oooooh, drama! -
They're really not... on a Saturday in the summer the longest you'll wait for anything is 45 minutes except for Superman and SORA because of their capacity. We almost always go on Saturdays in the summer because we don't get too many days off from work and we always have a great time even without a Flash Pass. Fright Fest is a nightmare but that's the case in most parks. Coasterbill is correct. I visit the park frequently, almost exceeded fifty times last year. I used to avoid weekends due to the perception that the crowds would limit my rides, but after one weekend visit a few years ago, I quickly realized that save for Fright Fest (and the rare exception if a special event is going on), the park does an AMAZING job at keeping almost all rides at as high of a capacity as possible. Now that I live farther away, I'm limited to visiting mostly on weekends (instead of dropping by for a couple hours after work), and my visits have not suffered as a result. Even if the LENGTH of a line is long, your actual wait time is pretty tolerable.

Weird Coaster Facts
michaellynn4 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That would be correct, sir. The longstanding rumor (at least with the GP) that the coaster piece in the Safari was one of the Lightning Loops but that is not the case. In fact, the first loop of Scream Machine needed additional reinforcement, so new track was created and installed. The coaster piece is actually the original first loop. -

What were the other attractions? They were never publicly announced, only that there was a five-year plan to rejuvenize the park. The world may never know.
