  1. When I visited Cedar Point last year with my ex-fiance, we were laughing throughout our ride on Mean Streak on how bad a coaster it was. From the trim brake on the first drop to the slow, meandering pace around the boring track, it was easily one of the worst coasters I've ever been on. I knew going in it was going to be bad and properly prepped my ex, but we were still taken aback by the sheer awfulness. Turn it into sawdust to coat children's playgrounds so it actually serves a redeeming purpose.
  2. ^ The park actually wasn't fully enclosed until the early 80s when local streets were re-routed to no longer pass through the park. The park actually continued to operate with multiple entrances until Wildwater Kingdom was added in 1994 and the midway as we know it today was constructed to serve the higher demand. The lower entrance to the park used to be back by where the Demon Drop is currently located, near the log flume. It's now used as a back entrance for employees. Here's Alfundo (the name dervied from Allentown, fun, and Dorney Park) at night in 1950: The park actually maintains a pretty good timeline of their history with some pictures on their website: https://www.dorneypark.com/media-center/park-history-timeline
  3. I agree with the general consensus here. Every time I go, I have a good time - clean park, decent rides, nice employees, etc. However, it's definitely a very bland, generic experience. It's a bit of a shame, because when you review the park's long history, there was a great amount of charm to the park originally, but it's been whitewashed away by corporate into the tepid experience it is today. ^ I've only been on the log flume once, and it is one of the better ones I've ridden. You're right, very "river"-like. You were wise to skip it if you didn't want to get wet, because it gets you soaked.
  4. I remember stinger also had something like that (I didn't try the wild mouse though) and I too thought it was rather bizarre but quite funny. Stinger definitely has one, too. I haven't been to the park this year but went several times last year. Just like the other rides, it's so bad, it's good.
  5. Shockwave was closed at SFGAdv before I was able to ride it (I was seven when it left), but I have plenty of distinct memories of it. We would visit the park almost every Sunday when I was a kid and occasionally whatever adult family members came with us would take turns riding it while others hung with the children. Based on how I feel about standups in general, and after riding Apocalypse two years ago, I'm not shedding any tears over not riding it. The Skycoaster is a better addition.
  6. Talon, Steel Force, Possessed, and Demon Drop are the only real reasons I visit, though I don't mind the other coasters in the lineup. Plus, I like the atmosphere of the park. Unfortunately, I only rode Laser once, back during my first visit to the park in 2001 (next time I went was late 2012). I don't remember too much, but I do remember a smooth, forceful, fun ride. I wish the park didn't get rid of it so I'd have more opportunities to ride it.
  7. So I noticed something about the "rendering" of Looping Dragon the other day when I was reading more up on the Larson Super Loops. I found this picture: Compared to the "rendering": This must set some record somewhere for laziest Photoshop job ever for a park.
  8. ^ I'm at the park now, too. Definitely more crowded than I anticipated, also. I waited close to an hour for Nitro. The crowds also maintained their level throughout the night - I'm sitting at the Boardwalk now and it's definitely still hard to navigate. Didn't do any of the trails, maybe next time.
  9. "Military surplus" does not necessarily mean that the vehicles were used. The term refers to general equipment that was intended for the military but is unable to be used or originally purchased in excess by the military. The vehicles could very well have never been used by the military.
  10. You can have the four Wing Riders. I'll gladly take having El Toro in my backyard any day.
  11. ^ Vekoma flyer restraints are, IMO, god-awful. This was reaffirmed at my recent visit to Carowinds when riding Nighthawk. On a B&M flyer, I feel 100% secure and will stick my arms out like I'm flying. At Carowinds, I was gripping and pushing up on the fiberglass sides of the seat to ease up on the restraints because they feel so flimsy. Ragin Cajun won't be bad, you'll be fine on it. It doesn't spin that much - at least it didn't when I rode it at SFGAm.
  12. ^ I know the general hope is that the path to El Toro from Kingda Ka gets reopened next year with this new addition, but did anyone confirm any of this with the folks at ROTB?
  13. ^ I did when I visited. Shouldn't be an issue.
  14. I said the same thing to myself when I visited the park the same time last year. I saw some of the longest lines I've ever seen on a Sunday September 2013 visit also with a BAFF offer. I'm talking Buccaneer having a full queue line, El Toro wrapped around to the bridge to Bizarro, and Nitro wrapped halfway to Batman. If you do plan on going, buy the Flash Pass, and do it early, because I have a feeling they're going to go pretty quickly.
  15. I'll certainly ride Hydra when I'm at the park, but every time I ride it, I leave feeling unfulfilled. It's not a bad ride, just not a good one. Boring.
  16. After visiting the park last night and spending some time in the Golden Kingdom, I'm actually excited for the placement of this ride. I think it'll bring some much needed color and light to the area, especially at night.
  17. Went to the park last night after work. Got there around 6pm. Crowds were extremely light. Ride count: El Toro: 1x (walk on) Zumanjaro: 1x (two-cycle wait, 5 min) Kingda Ka: 1x (walk on, two cycles for 2nd row) Sky Screamer: 1x (one-cycle wait, 5 min) Batman: 1x (walk on) Nitro: 2x (walk on, re-rode with no wait in back) Skull Mountain: 1x (walk on, back row) Ate dinner at the park with the dining pass, as well. That, the ride count, plus gentle meandering around the paths with the girlfriend made it a nice night.
  18. Same here. I'd ride Freefall at SFGAdv all the time growing up, but it was eight years since my last ride on it when I went to Dorney Park in 2013 and rode Demon Drop. Say what you will about relocated rides, but I'm glad that Dorney got this one. Easily one of the best in the park.
  19. When I went to the park last week I rode the C train as well and I noticed the same thing. It was a lot smoother than the last time that I rode in it.
  20. Let's just cut to the chase: everyone in the Northeast hates everyone else.
  21. The only thing I feel is bothersome about this announcement is that it's being advertised as a coaster when it's obviously not. I actually like this addition because the park needs more flats and it helps fill a vacancy in that area of the park. The Golden Kingdom has been just Kingda Ka since it's inception in 2005 (minus Balin's Jungleland), and this plus Zumanjaro helps round out that section of the park. If Ryan is correct about a reconnection to Plaza del Carnival then that's just icing on the cake. Of course I'd want the moon for the park - who wouldn't want a crazy big coaster addition and reopening of Old Country? But if a modest addition in 2015 is needed in order to allocate the necessary amount of funds to do a big addition RIGHT in the near future, then so be it.
  22. There are just so many things wrong with this rendering:
  23. Screamscape Says it is all but confirmed that we will be getting a Super Loop and it will be called Looping Dragon. Hey, it's a new flat ride, something the park needs. That's how I look at it.
