Where Are You Going in 2022?
thrillseeker4552 replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have lots planned! This year was a huge year for me (moving to Florida and visiting all the parks here for the first time, plus a Cedar Point trip in August), which was awesome after the dud that was 2020. Being out of college now and having a full time career with benefits definitely makes planning parks more fun, easier, and predictable/realistic. 100% certain (since they are my home parks): Universal Orlando Busch Gardens Tampa SeaWorld Orlando Fun Spots (in FL) I'm not a huge Disney person, and definitely not one to fork over the money for a pass, but perhaps a visit or two if Tron and/or Guardians actually opens. Very likely: Busch Gardens Williamsburg in April (pretty much certain at this point) SFMM, Knott's, and SWSD at some point over the summer for the new coasters - if not then over the holidays too Fun Spot Atlanta pretty much whenever their RMC opens. I will likely squeeze in SFOG and Dollywood too when this happens. If the stars align, somehow: Hersheypark Six Flags Great Adventure Other Eastern PA parks I haven't been to the northeast since 2016, and I'm especially itching to get back to Hershey, but this may be in 2023 if everything above ends up happening. -
Lagoon Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I guess they were trying to provide an example of how resilient they are and their plans to rebuild? I see where you're coming from though, especially since the aforementioned fire was almost 70 years ago. This is very unfortunate, especially considering the candy store was just recently renovated in the last couple years and was a great shop to visit. Here's to hoping they can get back on their feet. I believe in you, Lagoon! -
^Knott's will most definitely not be dead on the 28th. This is one of the busiest, if not the busiest, weeks of the year for almost all year-round parks. It will be insanely crowded anywhere. Unless you were kidding.... lol But yeah I would not suggest SWSD if you aren't a fan of animal exhibits or Electric Eel, even though Manta is very good.

Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This screams Mack hyper to me, although I suppose it could be Intamin too. Probably not B&M if it will feature inversions. This will be awesome for Thorpe after a decade of no new coasters. Happy for you guys! -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd love to see Carowinds and CGA both go year-round in the next few years. It really makes no sense why these two are still seasonal, and within the Cedar Fair chain these are the two that seem the most viable. But yeah... Cedar Fair. Hopefully someday. Especially with BGW now year-round and Dollywood rumored to be within the next few seasons as well. -
2021 TPR Coaster Poll!
thrillseeker4552 replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Very excited to rank my coasters! Thanks for all who are putting this together! Quick note. There seems to be an issue with the coasters at Islands of Adventure. I searched and added Hulk, Velocicoaster, etc. and after adding other rides, I went back and searched again (to double check) and was able to add them again as ridden. There were then multiple entries of the same coaster in my list. I then removed one and it removed both entires. Doesn't seem to happen with the other rides I added. EDIT: Seems to be a one-off glitch. They are now showing as marked ridden when I search them up. Maybe somebody else experienced this too. -
1. I have never been to Burbank airport, but I cannot imagine anything being worse than LAX. Good decision. 2. You should have no issue getting on every coaster at Knott's in a single day with Fast Lane. I would still recommend getting to the park as early as possible (before opening) and hit GhostRider immediately. Then go to the back of the park for HangTime, Coast Rider, and usually Xcelerator too if it's open. The Boardwalk typically stays relatively empty for the first hour or two of opening. You should then have no problem getting on the rest of the coasters and re-rides on your favorites with Fast Lane. Knott's is a very small park acreage-wise. It is very easy to get from one side to the other. Everything is so compact and close together. 3. As opposed to Knott's, SFMM is a very large park with tons of elevation change and long distances between rides. With a Flash Pass you should still be able to get on everything at least once. If you're looking for strategy, I would recommend getting there before opening and going to either X2 or Full Throttle immediately first, since these are both single-reservation rides on Flash Pass and both get insane lines very quickly. Whichever you decide, afterwards go up the hill to Superman since that isn't on any Flash Pass. I would then go down the other side of the hill to West Coast Racers (also single reservation, so ride it at this point and use your reservation later after the line builds, like with X2/FT) . After that you can pretty much do whatever you want. I have never found the Platinum to be any more useful than Gold, but during the extremely busy holiday season it very well could make a difference. I'm sure you're aware but Tatsu will be closed for its repaint, and Batman is also closed for WW construction. I'll let others comment on 4. 5. Traffic, traffic, traffic. So many people and so much traffic. At least there are no tolls out west though. Driving from Knott's to SFMM is roughly 45-60 minutes but could very well be more with traffic.

Keep in mind that the CGA Hyper was probably "too expensive for the park it's going to" not just too expensive in general. Knott's has a much higher attendance than CGA and I have a feeling Cedar Fair would be much more willing to spend the big bucks at their highest earning park (because it's year round) than at CGA. Just like how they were willing to install Orion at KI. Also, the B&M roar is a choice. Silver Bullet is 100% quiet because it is filled with sand. I am confident that if this hyper or giga happens, in my wildest dreams, it will definitely be filled with sand and be pretty much silent except for rider screams (which I think is the bigger problem). I think your point about them focusing on family and nostalgia lately is a much stronger argument against a hyper/giga. To be honest, I didn't even think HangTime would happen. When Boomerang was announced to be removed, I initially thought it would just be some more family rides or restaurant, etc. But nope, they crammed in their second tallest and second fastest coaster with 5 inversions and a thrilling appeal. Upon interviews at the ride's opening, park officials said "it was time to bring a new thrilling coaster to Knott's" and things like "we focused on families lately, this time we are doing a thrill ride." They know that they have a huge family demographic but they also have a teenage and thrilling demographic. If they can find a way to install a hyper (which I think is much more reasonable and likely... a giga larger than Fury, doubtful) and have it fit well into the area, not disturb the hotel or nearby residents, and have some theming in the station and queue area to tie into the atmosphere, it would be a wild success for the park. Just some of my thoughts.

Thanks for the photos. I am stoked for this repaint. I have some relatives who literally refer to the ride as "pink" because that is how well-known the faded color is. Only my earliest memory of visiting the park (circa 2004 when Silver Bullet was under construction) do I remember Xcelerator being remotely red! This is going to look so good.

I don't think there is any denying that the need for a hyper/giga has always been there. The park's attendance is one of the highest, and Cedar Fair loves this park and continually invests in it. And they could really use a high-capacity roller coaster. Everything in the park has mediocre-to-bad capacity except Silver Bullet. Another large B&M with 2 or 3 train operation would do wonders for spreading out crowds and accommodating the large attendance on some of those insanely busy days like Veteran's Day.

I would be extremely impressed if the park (and B&M, presumably) managed to squeeze in a Hyper, much less a Giga. Not only would the coaster have to maneuver around the existing maintenance buildings and roadways, but it would have to not disturb the hotel to the east or the residents and businesses to the west and south. I suppose the good news with this potential location is that it will not disturb the theming and atmosphere of Ghost Town / Wilderness at all. They could easily theme the station and queue to fit right in to the area and have the coaster itself be completely away from the park. I really don't want to get my hopes up, as much as I (and literally everybody) wants this. Cedar Fair also said somewhat recently that no major capital additions are planned as a result of COVID, but with so many parks bouncing back and still adding coasters perhaps that could've changed. I will always be skeptical of this project until it is announced.

The last new Coaster in your Count
thrillseeker4552 replied to K1ngdaKa88's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I completely agree about Texas Stingray. I was expecting a "solid" ride but it turned out to be one of my favorite wooden coasters. -
I will add that when they re-painted Silver Bullet and Sierra Sidewinder in early 2014, neither ride shut down at all. However when they painted Montezooma orange in early 2017, I believe they shut it down, but I could be remembering incorrectly. And yeah, tons of coasters are being painted at the moment. Don't forget Mr. Freeze at SFOT being painted back to blue as well! Coasters will be shining next year!
