  1. I've been thinking of a few ideas: Escalator Ride to Heaven (spoof on the Led Zepplin song) Jesus - The Escape / The Ride / Ultimate Escape / Ultimate Flight, etc. etc. Journey to Hell (in reality a TOGO death machine) Mr. 666's Pandemonium The Popemobile Ride The David and Goliath Stunt Show
  2. What's up with this? Is this the best we can do to welcome Sören to the land of the free?
  3. To quote the Mythbusters - "Remember - Don't try anything you're about to see at home. We're what you call experts - We do this for a living"
  4. They did a fairly impressive job with the theming, although I think they could have chosen a better name than Stealth (like Humdinger) "Strong magnetic fields - This may affect pacemakers, computers, and cell phones" - Who brings their computer onto a ride anyway? Did Thorpe recently set up wireless access points?
  5. Being a Target employee, I have some bias, but I know that Robb and Elissa shop at Target, and I have even had Erik come into my Target on more than one occasion. If the employees are doing their jobs right, there are never more than two people in line for any register, and employees will help you within 60 seconds after being paged. When in Orlando, don't forget: World's Largest McDonalds - For your Elissa Friendly Food fix. There's also a McDonalds at Downtown Disney SuperTarget (like a regular Target, but with groceries). If you just want to buy groceries, there's probably a Publix (where shopping is a pleasure) just around the corner. They're probably more common than McDonalds in Florida Driving - This is Florida. People can't drive. Orlando is a big tourist town also, so there will be drivers from up north who don't know where they're going. Our Interstate system is no Autobahn, but people speed anyway. Credits - Aside from Disney and IOA, there's Kraken at Sea World, BGT down the road, Cypress Gardens for your credit whoring pleasure, and Windstorm (?) and the 300 ft Skycoaster at Old Town. If you have a weekend or so off, you might want to head north to SFOG or head south to Diana Beach Hurricane The Holy Land Experience - See what it takes to avoid having to pay taxes! Kennedy Space Center - Came to mind after seeing your avatar. Hurricanes - Orlando was hit by three hurricanes in 2004, and they are almost routine now. You also mentioned buying a laptop. Check out Best Buy, CompUSA, or Circuit City. Avoid buying a Compaq, and don't buy one from Wal-Mart. If you have WiFi, you can post your TR's from Starbucks.
  6. I've got a Roady2 connected to my home system, and the only problem is that sometimes I can't get a good signal, usually when the weather is bad. As for the programming, I enjoy many of the music channels (with the exception of the remixes, I can't stand them!) I haven't had any experience with Sirius yet.
  7. I believe the term you're looking for is "foot chopper". There's usually a reasonable distance between the train and the grount, but the ride is designed to appear that the distance is smaller. If one does scrape your feet while riding a coaster, you might end up with a lawsuit, especially in America. I'm sure what we (Robb included) do want to know, however, is how rough the ride is. Does the ride bang your head on the restraint? Vekoma rides are not very popular with many of us because of this, and the fact that nearly all SLC's (the term used for that particular ride model) are identical.
  8. I think Robb prefers a Sony camcorder with DV tapes. As for stabilization, he also uses a wide-angle lens (I got one at Best Buy for about $30). They vary in terms of the shape, as some of them will heavily distort the image, while some will only distort it somewhat. For media types, I would go with DV tapes. A standard tape can hold about an hour of video with reasonably good picture quality Memory cards can only hold a limited amount of video, and if they hold a lot of video, you will lose picture quality Disks/DVD's - I don't have much experience with them, but considering that they have precision moving parts, I don't think they would hold up too well on rides Also, make sure you have a large hard drive if you want to do editing. A single DV tape takes up around 10 gigabytes of disk space.
  9. I suffered throught the FCAT when it first came out. I aced the math/science section, but did not do so well on the reading section. Since the test was first being rolled out, if one didn't pass the FCAT, he/she could take the HSCT to make up for it. The HSCT, however, was rediculously easy and I aced it. The real reason for the test is so that the government can adjust the funding for schools. Good schools would get funding, bad schools would get funding, and schools in between would get a small amount of funding. Anyone seen those "I survived FCAT testing - 2002" type T-shirts like those coaster ones they sell at theme parks?
  10. If you want to post videos, there's a forum for them. That would make it easier for us to download them without having to go through third party sites.
  11. Personally, I think Florida needs a hyper (or maybe even a flyer). We've got practically everything else (launched, water, floorless, dive machine, inverted, death machine, etc.). We don't have a stand-up either, but nobody's building them these days. I'm also sure it would be a B&M, as even today Kumba has long lines on certain days and Busch has had a long history of building rides such as Apollo, Montu, Kraken, Great White, and Alpengiest among others.
  12. I've occasionally stumbled on a few of my old RRC posts back in 1998-1999. Back then I would have conversations with Dave Andolf (sp?), Todd Long, Joe Schwartz, the late Steven Urbanowitz, Steve Nuss, among others.
  13. I think Elissa should try and "borrow" a kid to get in and ride the coaster simulators (do they count as credits if you haven't ridden the real thing?). I've never been there myself though
  14. I find that I get feelings like that when I go on a long car/boat/plane trip. I haven't had much of it from coasters, but that may change when we get ERT on Balder in June.
  15. Anyone who remembers the Top Thrill Dragster webcam would recognize this. That's what porta-potties are for
  16. White Cyclone! "Please nuderstand the difference" "It's something" "Pleasure is boan here"
  17. "I'm STILL Crazy German Guy. Gimme some candy!" Gimme some candy
  18. Congratulations. I hope to see a trip report (just try not to take the camera out in customs, as they don't tend to like that). Out of curiosity, what motivated you to get the job in the first place? Did you get tired of poking people in the eye?
  19. If you're in New York, you might want to consider checking out Coney Island. I've never been there myself, but the Cyclone is all over the Discovery Channel. Also there is the touristy type stuff, such as the Empire State Building (with a "Soaring over New York" type motion simulator called the New York Skyride), Timesquare, Ground Zero, and subways
  20. If you have a half-decent camera, you should have some sort of close-up option. It looks like a flower viewed from the side. If you use that, your close-up pictures should come out clearer. Either that or your lens is busted.
  21. I'm not that fond of commercials, and I generally find them mildly annoying. One commercial I do remember (and support) is one for Cingular. It starts out like a movie, and is interrupted by a cell phone, followed by a message to turn off cell phones. Personally, I think they should add in a bathroom break somewhere during the movie, especially long ones (plus it brings people to the snack bar to buy rediculously expensive popcorn and soft drinks)
  22. This should jump start it a little bit
  23. I actually had a topic about this some time ago, but Robb didn't post. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18986 "Oh! Pick me! Pick me! Pick meeeee!"
  24. Wow! I'm not alone! I have some form of Aspergers, but I'm not good at many sports. I have all the other symptons - obsessions (computers, coasters, etc), an engineering degree, and minimal social life beyond this forum. Oh, and by the way, Kmart sucks! Shop at Target instead!
  25. I've noticed that nobody builds stand-ups anymore. SFMM topped off with Riddler, and a year later SFOG built Scorcher, and we haven't seen any since.
