  1. Basically, like the rest of New Orleans, the park flooded when Katrina hit. The flooding caused damage to much of the buildings, rides, etc. I've heard that staffing is a problem, and also the fact that not many tourists would visit the park with the current state of New Orleans.
  2. ^ Not only did it feature an SLC, but it featured Paul Ruben raving about it
  3. From R&E's recent trips to Japan, I believe they did hit a few genuine "death machines" http://www.themeparkreview.com/japan2004/expoland1.htm
  4. I've got a Eurostar and a Scottish steam train set in storage somewhere. I just don't have anywhere to set them up, and since I bought them overseas, powering them is somewhat difficult too. I have always been into trains, having enjoyed Thomas the Tank Engine since the age of around 3.
  5. I rode my first SLC several days ago at Wild Adventures. The headbanging is not too bad (although it still gives a headache after riding too many times), but I find the most painful part is the fact that my shoulders hit the sides of the restraint (the restraints sort of wrap over the shoulders, unlike the B&M's). Also on my last ride, the foam padding was actually broken, exposing the soft foam underneath, making the headbanging less brutal. One of the reasons why SLC's are so rough is because not all the wheels are in contact with the track at one time, so there is room for shaking.
  6. We didn't see much in the way of animals when we were there last weekend (besides Robb, of course). There is a safari part of the park, but we didn't go there. Be sure to hit Dinosaur, Tough to be a Bug, and Primeval Whirl (both sides count as a single credit!) Busch Gardens, on the other hand, has animals throughout the park, although it is a little more like a zoo than AK.
  7. And some more Wild Adventures was a decent park with plenty of rides. Unfortunately Cheetah and Gold Rush were closed, but we were able to get our SLC and Boomerang credits (a first for both Erik and myself). The park looks like it was designed in RCT. Aside from the lemonade stand mentioned above, the entrances and exits for all the rides are in random places, and the queue lines all look like something from RCT. While there are both Gators and Donkeys, it is probably not worth a season pass. I've still got a headache from riding the SLC twice. There's not too much headbanging though, and the most painful part is the restraint hiting your shoulders, especially for taller people. The Boomerang was probably one of the better rides of the day, although the Screamin' Swing was probably one of the highlights. Erik and Leanne ride the Insect-a-slide Erik and Leanne enjoyed Bug Out Bug out - A generic mouse with slamming and hard braking Tiger Terror was intense for a kiddie coaster. Lots of slamming and shaking. Tom tries funnel cake for the first time The Swamp Thing. Not like what Montu used to be though Photographing Vekoma rides was a big part of this trip Tom was more interested in the SLC Hiding behind the SLC were donkeys! This one was eating. Tom with the footer There was an spare footer around the back of "Bang Man".
  8. More pictures Here, kitty kitty kitty! The Tiger show According to Erik and Tom, this version was better than the Cypress Gardens version Even Swamp Thing bears the mark of quality. Note the signature gap between the up-stop wheel and the track. Tom in line for Swamp Thing Theming outside of Swamp Thing Go Gators! Needless to say, there were people wearing Gator shirts everywhere, and not a Georgia fan in sight Double shot, a generic S&S tower. The tower itself is small, but there's a fair amount of air-time Erik gives Fiesta two thumbs up Tom enjoying Fiesta Fiesta Express. Good ride - it's a credit, more forceful than Silver Bullet, and it doesn't have OTSR's
  9. Here are some pictures from our recent credit-whoring trip to Wild Adventures, including myself, Erik and his wife, Non German Tom, and a few of Tom's friends Missed the train while taking this picture. Erik videotapes and Tom takes pictures of this amazing contraption. The station. Queues were minimal for nearly everything It's good to see that Wild Adventures uses geniune parts on its rides Another quality credit. We rode it twice - two times too many Fairly decent ride, not much headbanging The Outback themed section. Can anyone guess the name of the coaster in the background? Erik on #50 Erik hits a major milestone! The ride even bears the mark of quality First credit of the day! Ant Farm Express First thing we saw upon approaching the parking lot...A Vekoma ride! Unfortunately Cheetah was closed and the SLC was not. Tom driving on the right side of the road
  10. It's on right now. There's actually a bunch of new footage. It will be on again at 11pm EST "Best place to ride Go-Karts" - Mt Olympus "Best steel coaster" - Millennium Force (Magnum for third place, SROS in second") "Best wooden coaster" - Thunderhead (ahead of Boulder Dash and Shivering Timbers) "Best waterpark ride" - Master Blaster (again), followed by Zinga and Zoombabwe "Best theme park shows" - Six Flags Fiesta Texas "Best water ride" - Black Anaconda, followed by Crush'n' Gusher and Typhoon "Friendliest and Cleanest Park" - Holiday World "Best Children's Park" - Legoland "Top Waterpark" Schlitterbahn (no surprise) followed by Splashin' Safari and Blizzard Beach "Top Amusement Park" - Cedar Point (of course) followed by IOA and BPB I seriously think we should make a "top theme parks" type show. Call it the Donkey awards with categories such as "best food", "best place to get credits", "best place with rodents", "best ghetto park", "best park to make fun of", "best death machine"
  11. I was planning to get some decent footage last weekend when Robb and Elissa were down in Florida. Unfortunately, my camcorder stopped working at the gate of AK (the first park we hit). In the end, I had to record to memory cards, but I was able to capture some decent footage (including POV's of Everest, Jurassic Park, and Primeval Whirl) and tons of good still footage. With Windows Movie Maker crashing every five minutes and a limited amount of video footage, I was able to crank out something interesting. My video has something for everyone at TPR, including fire, food, and Vekoma rides
  12. Both Robb and Elissa have been mentioned on the Discovery Channel Look for Top 10 Coasters 2001 and Top Ten Coasters 2002. Robb narrates Ghostrider and Elissa narrates Montu Also, Elissa goes credit whoring across California on Ultimate Guide to Roller Coasters. Now all that Discovery seems to show now is Paul Ruben and SLC's
  13. Elissa friendly - 62 Robb friendly - 28 McDonalds - 223 Credit whore - 112 Photo TR - 1402 POV - 571 Castle - 270 Death Machine - 45 Mr. Six - 1599
  14. ^ They supposedly built the trains for Psyclone at SFMM
  15. ^ It's always fun to make jokes about fat peeps! Needless to say, our Jurassic Park raft tipped a little when Robb got aboard.
  16. ^^ Robb taped most of it, so I'm sure he will either post it or put it on an upcoming DVD. I captured a little bit of footage too, but my camcorder was not working up to par.
  17. Here are some more shots Here's Sören getting his first US credit It appears that some people really miss Nickelodeon Supposedly Disney has donkeys too Universal Studios was definitely TPR Approved.
  18. Sunday started out at IOA. Most of the group started with Hulk and then we headed to the Dragons. Here's a shot of Erik going to the bathroom MIB was a pretty good ride. Tom buying some beer Here's Robb shelling out $2.75 for a Coke. If this were Pepsi, on the other hand, I'd be worried. Jurassic Park broke town for whatever reason. Maybe the boat couldn't handle Robb Another shot of the Driving Machines. I'm not sure what is up with this section of track Here's the "Intamin" type track on the Driving Machines. Elissa was excited that it would be a credit, but it might be a powered coaster
  19. Take two. The server was acting up on me when I was posting. Thunder Mountain was probably one of the best rides of the night (just behind Splash Mountain) This can only begin to describe some of the craziness aboard the monorail that night. Everyone else in the car was thinking WTF when we cheered after they announced "New at EPCOT: It's Soarin'!" Robb playing with a £10 note. UK money is so much better than US money. The new $10 looks like someone spilt coffee on it. Needless to say, he dropped out. Robb doing the Hula lessons There's obviously something going around! Grrrrr! Gimme some candy! Erik, Julie, and Kevin Sören, Carlos, Elissa (you can just barely see her plain pasta) and Robb eating. After eating, it's a night a Magic Kingdom. Note the full sized Disneyland castle in the window. While the park was still busy, most of the rides had minimal wait times (except for when Robb held up the queue at Splash Mountain). This shot ranks up along with Elissa's 'Stateline'
  20. If anyone's curious, this topic has been posted at Screamscape
  21. Here's a couple more pics. More are on the way Opening ceremony at Animal Kingdom. Elissa was at first disappointed at the lack of rodents, however Minnie was there. To quote the Mythbusters: "Myth Confirmed!". We're just jealous of all you in California with your hallway! This one's for you Joey! This one's for you Robb! After the Movie Ride, some of us needed the Vekoma credit, and this is some of the queue/pre-show theming. Fire! The Great Movie Ride For those of you in the state of California, what is wrong with this picture? Next we hit the tower Elissa and Tom. Note that the plate is NOT plain pasta (probably because it wasn't her plate) What TPR PTR is complete without food. This particular restaurant at MGM was considered Elissa Friendly. We gave Tom the bill, but unfortunately they were unable to take his pounds After Animal Kingdom, we hit MGM. This is the tram ride. According to Robb, it was "more forceful than Silver Bullet" Here's the opposite of above The TPR exclusive shot of Everest! After Everest, we headed for Dinosaur. As you can see, it is Elissa Approved. This was Robb's favorite part of the queue The queue is "interactive" as demonstrated here More Everest theming. My dad used to have a printer like that Waiting for Everest. The line was very short, and there was no pre-show
  22. There will be a ton of stuff to come over the next few hours, including Soren's first Florida credit! (hint: It's made by Vekoma)
  23. Also, Oblivion and G5 (the first two dive machines) do not have inversions, although they do have OTSR's. The third, SheiKra, has one inversion.
  24. From the Holy Land avatar thread - Escalator Ride to Heaven (Led Zepplin) Bucknet and Garcia - DDR Fever (Pac Man Fver...I got DDR Fever...driving me crazy!) REM - Shiny New Intamins (Shiny Happy People) Peter Gabriel - Headbanger (Sledgehammer) Weird Al Yankovich - It's all about the credits (It's all about the Pentiums)
  25. I'm sure everyone's heard that story about Moses and the parting of the river. This one took about five minutes to do I promise, you will NOT get wet on this water ride!! You will NOT get wet! I promise!
