Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
haux replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The videos aren't working on kidiamondback.com. The lift supports are a different color. And they also look kind of odd. Look at the angles of them, especially the highest one. -

What a screwed-up counter. Is it really that hard to get it right? -
Kings Island building a B&M Hyper Coaster

It's at 3 p.m. But with the way the countdown's been screwy the past few days, it's probably at midnight Sunday. -

I noticed that. Earlier, it was counting down to 1 a.m. Eastern. Now it's counting down to 3 p.m. Eastern. Weird. -
Kings Island building a B&M Hyper Coaster

A friend of mine suggested Behemoth as the name. What's with the snakes and horses in the box? Maybe Behemoth eats snakes and horses. Also lasers. -
May I suggest buying a tripod? Or learning how to focus. Most of your photos have motion blur or are out of focus. That said, this is pretty cool. And the name "Prince Mohammad bin Fahd Amusement Park" is fantastic. We should name our parks after leaders. I can't wait to see the other parks. Are they all like little carnivals? That's the vibe I got from these photos.

I can't wait for the announcement so everyone shuts up on the speculation of the name and starts complaining about it. -
Is anyone on TPR a Railfan? (Train Watcher)
haux replied to kalvin's topic in Random, Random, Random
Like I said earlier in this thread, pretty much only Norfolk Southern passes through my town. When I go on walks, I walk by the railroad tracks for maybe a quarter of a mile. Last time I did, a BNSF train passed through, and it had "K" Line and Hanjin shipping containers on it. I find that pretty interesting that stuff from Japan and South Korea is passing through the small town I live in. Sometimes Canadian National Railway comes through. We're so close to Canada, that makes sense. -

Worried about riding Mantis
haux replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You can't fall out of the seat. You're really pretty well restrained, so get that idea out of your head. The best way to ride any stand-up coaster is to give a little bit of space between "the boys" and the seat. Try to get your legs straight so you don't drop down when the G's hit. Mantis has some pretty high G's, but you don't have to worry about blacking out. Millennium Force gives me tunnel vision. Mantis is just bland. The worst thing you have to worry about on Mantis is banging your head. For the best ride, get in one of the middle two seats, and keep your head back. It's a boring coaster. You won't black out and fall out after you slam your nuts into the seat. You'll be fine. -

I thought the track was Kings Island's coaster. I don't think it ever was dive machine track. -

I got that e-mail too. I hope they send one tomorrow that says they're letting the cat out of the bag. -

^ It makes sense. Is it half-laser-snake and half-horse or half-laser and half-snake-horse? That's where I'm confused. I understand the crate and how this ride will be themed, but this is what I just don't get. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

^ Comments on YouTube shouldn't count. The dumbest people on the Internet conspire to comment on YouTube videos, so stuff like that isn't anything surprising. -
^True. It's the Princess Juliana International Airport at St. Maarten. There are tons of photos like that. Like this. You can even see the Web site stamp on the bottom of the photo.

Unlimited soda wristband with CF Season pass
haux replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Get the Platinum Pass. You'll be saving money just with parking not tacked on! And the all-day drink wristband at Kings Island was only $6.99 when I went a few weeks ago, so it's not too bad. Also, soda is sold in bottles in parks (at least parks I've been to). They wouldn't charge $3 for a can. That's pretty absurd. -
I went to the Marblehead Lighthouse today. It's in Ohio and is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse on the Great Lakes. This is my favorite shot. Oooh. Neato.

Beyond vertical drops
haux replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've ridden Maverick and Mystery Mine, and the drops are pretty fantastic. Maverick has the best conventional first drop (i.e. not X) I've ever been on, and it gives me a slight tickle in my stomach each time. Mystery Mine's drop isn't as good because there's less of a pull in the back as compared with Maverick. But the drops are both pretty cool. Curling beyond 90 degrees is pretty cool. The pull down the drop from the back seat can't really be compared to a non-beyond-vertical drop. -
Hmm. Maybe these can help. I imagine you can copy and paste a few of the cars together to create a train. http://media.nasaexplores.com/lessons/02-046/images/roller2.jpg http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/roller-coaster-24.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/43/82363790_073f2c818a.jpg?v=0 If you've got NoLimits, you can just get a screenshot of a train from that.

Kings Island building a B&M Hyper Coaster
haux replied to browntggrr's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You can't seriously think that people are going to confuse Kings Island's Diamondback (if that is the name) with a tiny Arrow shuttle coaster at Frontier City. I'll bet 99 percent of the people visiting Kings Island don't even know there is a Frontier City. -
I love that Cedar Downs is a "must-ride." It's a really fun ride that's underrated. I love it. A Tuesday in August shouldn't be too bad, and you should be able to get on most of those rides with no problem. Your plan looks pretty good. If Maverick's open for morning Point Perks, go there first. Ride it once or twice and then do MF a couple of times. It'll be 10 before you know it, so here's where you can lay low a little or hit some less popular rides. Or you can book it to TTD. If you're lucky, the line still won't be too bad, and you can get on in maybe half an hour. As long as TTD is running, Magnum's line shouldn't be too bad. It's got a high capacity, so the wait isn't too bad even if the first queue is full. Then you can swing by and ride Gemini, though only one side might be open. Your plan isn't too bad, except for maybe Raptor. If you don't want to wait long, either ride Raptor for morning ERT, or ride it after 3 p.m. The line clears out by then because everyone is in the middle and the back of the park. But this all depends on how busy it is. If it's not busy, you can change your plans completely and just hit rides as you walk by them. Millennium Force isn't bad when only the first queue is full. MaXair's wait is never bad, even if it spills out on the midway. The queue is ridiculously short. Sheesh. I've typed a lot. If you've got any other specific questions, just ask, and I'll try to answer them.

King of Beast takes down the ferocity of The Beast. Like The Beast needs some sort of leader. No way. Only a few more days. Oh boy. I can't wait. Maybe I'll be insane and make a visit to the park then. -

The spine probably just cracked. It happens on Raptor every so often. They just have to weld it, and the ride will be fine.
