  1. Eh. I don't know how I feel about this. It's neat that they're changing it at night, but Frontier Trail is one of the most peaceful places in the park at night. I could sit on a bench or stand underneath MF's turn and just take in the atmosphere and relax. How will that be with all these lights and floats now? But I'll wait to judge when I see it.
  2. A big part of the popularity of this community is the popularity of the videos before the forum was here. Tons of people visited this site to watch and buy the videos. The forum was simply the next step.
  3. I thought it was really fun. It acts sort of like a Break Dance. The G's do spike, but that doesn't matter. It's fun to watch and really disorienting to ride. Good work.
  4. Ha. What? I don't think the splashdown has anything to do with the theme. It's just a cool effect. I don't think shikras or griffons really do much in water, but the effect sure is sweet.
  5. Bench: The Ride originated on a long-gone forum called Goose's Realm of Insanity. It was an SFMM message board. I believe there were rumors of a new ride or wood and steel showing up, and someone said it was for Bench: The Ride. The joke's been around for maybe a decade now.
  6. My friend recorded that show on his DVR, and I came over and watched it yesterday. It was pretty amusing. You guys were talking about how great Ghostrider is and all the good airtime and G's it has. Robb was the talking head. Elissa just kind of sat there. It made me sad because Ghostrider used to live up to your standards. But now it's really a shadow of its former self. I rode it in 2002 and loved it, and I rode it again in 2006, and it slid so far down my list. It also made me feel weird because I knew some of the people in that video. I knew the woman on Magnum, and I recognized someone in the background. Jeez.
  7. I like top 10 lists because I get a kick out of people getting so angry over them.
  8. Twisted Twins is one of the most uninspired coasters I've ever ridden. I only got to ride one side, but that was fine. It's got a terribly bland layout. Just ride Thunder Run. That's a surprisingly good woodie.
  9. That video clearly uses sound effects from NoLimits, but it's not a NoLimits video. It'll have to be trimmed immediately following the launch unless that hill is 470 feet high. I hope they can figure a way to brake it easily so you're not slammed forward right after your slammed back.
  10. Come on. That photo could have at least shown a trader with his face buried in his hands. That's just a dull photo of the floor covered mostly by that stupid text.
  11. That site used to have a list of all the ride installations. I guess now it just has the parks. I know Flight of Fear at KI and Raptor at CP have it. Cedar Fair seems to really have jumped on that idea. At SFFT, Tony Hawk has them also. At least it did when I visited in 2007.
  12. I find the tallest support on the camelback interesting. The other supports have lateral support leading up and down from the top, but that support is just a lone vertical support. And I think this coaster will have a couple of those on camelbacks. Edit: There's snow on the ground at KI now. The shots from the webcam are pretty.
  13. Dying. Will this have magnetic brakes at the end of the ride? It looks like there's an air brake right at the beginning of the main brakes and no room for a magnetic brake. That'd be kind of weird for B&M to revert to not using mags.
  14. Angryemobeaver, visit this site. It makes it much easier. You just click a box for what you've ridden then arrange them in order by dragging them in the next screen. Try it. It's not that hard. Don't let the e-yelling get you down. This poll is really good, but it can be intimidating the first time. I skipped it when I first heard about it because it made no sense, but after I tried it, I saw the error of my ways.
  15. But that is what this poll is. You rate the coasters you've been on. What else would it be?
  16. I might try the grouping method next year. For now, I still give each coaster a ranking, though I group a few together when I can't decide where exactly to place them.
  17. They're not white. They're sort of beige.
  18. Here's mine. I'm sure you've seen this McDonald's if you've driven on a cross-country trip. Well, now there's reason to stop. Eat, ride, drive.
  19. I'd have a lot easier time with the polls if I did it that way. But I've decided to completely redo them from scratch without looking at last year's poll. That way I have to justify everything again in my head based on what my current opinions are. My top few coasters haven't changed since last year's poll, and I just moved other coasters around as I judged them.
  20. I e-mailed both of mine a few days ago. I like doing this poll. I've done it for a few years now, so I just have to update my previous year's poll.
  21. I can't recall a roller coaster having the first drop built before the lift hill.
  22. Oh, good. So it's actually going to do more than turn around. I wonder if it'll have to be heavily braked before whatever that element is.
  23. That first drop looks amazing.
  24. I love that this thread's like the opposite of the Diamondback thread. People see Manta's construction and are totally excited, then they see the layout and are sad. With Diamondback, people saw the layout and were disappointed, but now that construction's going on, people seem excited. It's a friggin' roller coaster. A B&M at that. It's going to have a unique splash element. It's going to have a pretzel loop. I'm happy, even though I probably won't get to ride it for years.
  25. It's an Intamin. I wouldn't put it past 'em!
