Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
anonymouscactus replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just a random post... I know it's a really old show at this point but my wife started watching Hemlock Grove on Netflix and I happened to look up and immediately noticed Canada's Wonderland making an appearance -- -

Holy crap! I'll be driving to JFK airport in two weeks from right now to fly to Kenya / Africa! First time* leaving the country! (*Canada doesn't count) No coasters this trip... but lots of (real) animal safaris! The excitement is finally setting in!

Interesting. Surprised they are offering an unlimited with SC included as well. Definitely a pretty penny with not enough non-coaster rides IMO but maybe when I see the lines I'll think differently... I'm considering a visit this weekend, I also noticed the website said 1 train operations on Steel Curtain... but with VIP that doesn't matter as much. If I can buy at the park for the same price I'd rather wait to purchase. As asked above, does anybody know how pricing is at the park? -

I find that even at parks like Cedar Point, I'm perfectly happy with riding a couple coasters once each, and leaving after a 5 or 6 hour day. It's still a 4 hour drive there and 4 hours back and people think we are crazy for not staying longer or overnight or whatever, but we always leave happy. At smaller parks we will spend even less time. Still have a great time, but as I'm getting older* I just can't keep up with riding a million times over and over again, even if there are no lines. Though every once in awhile I will make a decision like riding i305 in the back seat 7 times in a row without getting up... -
Amazing photos and amazing report!! Loved all the wonder woman photos you were able to get of yourselves. Very cool! Also love how you find the good in everything in all of your reports and don't let the little things bother you that make it THE WORST PARK EVAR by some people. Just enjoy your day Thanks for taking the time to write everything up, and for taking part in a great cause!

Sounds like a great time! They definitely don't know how to stock the soda around the park properly. We have the paper cup plan and the regular fountains tend to be flat as you said (or out of syrup, too). The freestyles are normally good, though. It has been like this for years for whatever reason. I always take a little swig of whatever I'm drinking before filling up the cup at this park. Yukon is a good time. Good thing you had FL+. Vortex is also an amazing time. It often gets overlooked but it's fantastic. Rating of Time Warp from 1 to 10? Dragon Fire had a temporary name change this year along with knightmares and wild beast to celebrate their ye olde heritage. Sorry about Guardian, with all the problems it has though it may have been in your best interest. I always used to recommend this for a fun ride, but it really has fallen off the deep end the past few years. Maybe if I'm lucky they will get the kinks worked out for Zombies @ Haunt. Ha. -

Shutterfly was having $1 magnet + free shipping sale so I decided to take our funpix photos and turn them into magnets for the fridge! The quality is a little lower than I was expecting (colors aren't super bright) but it was cool to get the ride logos and everything in each photo instead of buying magnets at the park. -

Great report! I love Goliath as well. "This zero-G stall is absolutely amazing! It obviously gives great hang time, but then when it flips you right side up your still out of your seat and with the track going under some of the structure it creates a great hand chopper moment too! An absolutely amazing element and personally my favorite element on any coaster." Also agree with this statement. It's the only thing Steel Vengeance was missing IMO. I've been on other RMC's with a stall but nothing is like, or as amazing, as Goliath's. Favorite element of any coaster, for sure. Maxx Force sounds like a great little ride; looking forward to getting out to this park again some day. -
Not news: Firebird being evacuated. However, it is in an interesting spot at the top / over the hump lift. I'd be surprised if the train wasn't tied back, but from what I can see from my brief viewing of the live helicopter feed (... lol...) it doesn't look like it. Been trained on a few coasters, and i will say floorless coasters are the biggest pain in the ass to evac (on a lift hill anyways, in a block brake it's easy peasy.). I've had to do it a few times and trying to lock them in place you can look like a real idiot trying to do it and it takes a few tries sometimes. I couldn't get a good look but I would think the platforms would be at a really weird angle on the downslope, if my memory serves me right with how they hook in (it's been awhile...)

Time Warp first! ... if you want to regret your entire trip to the park It's terrible. The numbers in the TPR coaster poll don't lie! I still say Guardian as number 1 at rope drop. -
According to the membership newsletter I got, which I can't seem to find the details of it right now, the park opens a few rides (3 coasters? Don't quote me) at 10am (1/2 hour early) for those with membership... but they don't announce what they are until day of. This early entry applies to hotel guests as well. Just throwing that out there as well, sorry I can't find the exact wording.

I know it's not what they are getting but it would be cool if they got an "action river"... one of those really fast moving lazy rivers that don't use the tubes. Maybe the world's fastest one... call it the "lazy cheetah". -
omg that is crazy lol

Assuming you will be there at park opening, if you are interested in doing Wonder Mountains Guardian, absolutely 100% go there first. The capacity is abysmal and half of the seats are roped off because they don't work. If you wait, that could be the longest line of the day. If you go on Sunday and are a passholder take advantage of early entry. Honestly the lines build up FAST around the entire park, and with the addition of Yukon I don't know the best strategy anymore as I've only been to the park twice this year. My other advice is to budget for FAST LANE +. Crowds get pretty crazy and you WILL be waiting on long lines around the entire park. It's worth the money. Wonder Mountain is not on Fast Lane so still make sure you go there first and THEN get your Fast Lane. Going there at ropedrop is critical... don't waste time getting your wristbands. Have fun! -

Do you have to climb through a window to get in? -
I rode Superman today and it definitely is a sound I've never heard on any coaster before. I know there is nothing wrong, but it's definitely unique. Ride was running well, and no lines during the time we were there in the morning. Wicked Cyclone was a bit sluggish (for an RMC... meaning it's still crazy) in the morning.... probably because we were the only two in the train, lol. My wife was underwhelmed, probably because she gets to ride Steel Vengeance quite often... but I still enjoy all the RMCs they are all unique in their own ways and I appreciate that. Rode Joker on the purple side and got 0 flips. The people we were facing, though, had an insane ride. No fair.

If you are staying at the hotel you can park in the hotel lot and walk to the park. No need to worry about driving to the main lot. Pretty sure that game thing you are talking about is not an official perk. You pick up your skip the lines next to the Viper at the membership building. I asked last time I was there and they said that's the only place you can pick them up.
