Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
307 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Glad we aren't going in late-May anymore, as originally planned! Though to be honest, I actually am not nearly as hyped for Maverick as I am for just going back to CP. -
I picked Dorney + Hershey, however I'll say right now my opinion's biased because I hate New Jersey and have never been to SFGAdv I'll agree with what everyone else said about Hershey + Dorney. Their attractions aren't nearly as "mind blowingly extreme" as SFGAdv's, however the atmosphere in Hershey is really nice. It's just a generally good place to be. And as someone else mentioned, there's the Chocolate Factory! So if your parents aren't big on rollercoasters, you can always take a ride through there, and pick up some awesome candy. Plus, Hershey has Storm Runner and Lightning Racer, two coasters that are awesome. Dorney isn't nearly as good as Hershey but has a nice collection of decent -> good coasters [Talon, Hydra, Steel Force, Lazer]. But again, as others have said... it depends on your preferences, or maybe your family's preferences, your time considerations, and your cost considerations. If you want family rides in more leisurely parks, mixed in with a bit of very good coasters, Hershey + Dorney. If you want crazy extreme rides in a less family-indusive environment, SFGAdv. Long-wind, ahoy!

The worlds top 10 thrill rides (according to msn)
307 replied to gax's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In honor of MSN's list, I present my personal top five "coasters"! 05 Wacky Shack [Waldameer] While some may argue that this is not a "rollercoaster" per se, most "enthusiasts" are in agreement that not only is it a coaster, but it is one of the greatest of all time! It does more than just thrill with high speed and tight curves, as riders will go through many various themed "rooms" full of lifelike creep-show oddities and effects! 04 Sea Serpent [Morey's Piers] A rollercoaster so unique that nearly every major amusement park in the United States now boasts one of their own, however this was the original! The revolutionary design has yet to be replicated by any other rollercoaster, flipping riders upside down six times, both forwards AND backwards! It's no wonder that it's many people's favourite rollercoaster ever. 03 Son of Beast [Kings Island] The world's first looping rollercoaster is still riding high! Son of Beast was at one point the biggest rollercoaster in the world! The number of trees that had to die to create this amazing rollercoaster pales in comparison to the number of whoops and hollers of satisfied riders that traverse it's twisted track every year. Not only is the ride full of crazy turns taken at jaw-dropping speed, but one may feel as though they're floating on a cloud, thanks to the extraordinarily creative seating design. 02 Tomb Raider: The Ride [Canada's Wonderland] Though there are similar coasters at other parks, the riding sample only included this one. We can only wish it would've included more! This unique ride brings about experiences that other coasters only wish they could boast. Truly one feels as though they are flying through the air while securely fastened in the surprisingly comfortable and spacey cars, and thrown through a twisted track full of surprises! 01 High Speed Thrill Coaster [Knoebel's] The name very appropriately describes this coaster, as it's non-stop thrills from start to finish! High speed is an understatement, as the train flies through the seemingly endless track at what feels like supersonic speeds! The staggering heights the ride achieves, as well as the dizzying amount of helixes the coaster blazes through, are enough to make any seasoned coaster veteran think "WOW". There was very little debate that this is truly the best rollercoaster in the world. And that concludes the list! Hope you've enjoyed! -
Oh wow... reading those lyrics... I'm just so touched to know that somewhere, out there, someone else feels the anguish that I feel, the hurt, the pain. But to know that someone else out there feels the same way as me, especially someone as close to me as posting on the same forum I post at... It just really makes me feel like maybe, just maybe, there is some hope out there for this lost soul. Thank you, Calaway Park! You've helped me get through another day.

Yeah, sorry. Didn't do it on purpose. Everyone will see both your names once they click on the link. Just be happy you guys made it on the front page! --Robb Oh hey I'm not unhappy about that! It's always cool to see something we wrote on the front page! Hopefully we'll make it there again before the year is through I'm sure you guys will. You do good TRs! In fact, I've recentely added many of yours our park index pages when I was updating them. Probably for the first year. You gotta remember that these parks are many people's "home parks" and they've been owned by Paramount for what seems to have been forever! So seeking out changes by the new owners for your "home away from home" is a big deal for some people. --Robb If I had the internet when Paramount took over Wonderland in the first place, you damn sure can bet I would've been nitpicking the crap out of it then, too! Plus, we wanted to just be huge nerds and go into detail about the tiny little changes that no one but us and the posters of TPR would notice/care about -

I agree. It's good for a day stop and worth some credits... Vortex is definitely worth a spin! But it's not something that will probably leave you dying to return, unless you like mediocre rides, bad operations and tons of people. I got snubbed on the main page of TPR No mention of me! I did the report, too! -
Has This Ever Happened To You?
307 replied to gnewton34's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ya know, emo is very "in" these days, so I think it's fallen out of the category of "anti-establishment". And if I worked as a ride op, after a couple of months I would probably start pulling that crap, too. One time at Canada's Wonderland, on the Nightmares ride [Huss UFO or something like that], the ride op referred to it solely as the "Green Cheese Coaster" and went on a long spiel about the origins of the ride. Not sure if he did this for every ride, but he did repeatedly refer to it as the Green Cheese Coaster. When I worked at Wonderland, I was talking to a guy who was an ex-ride-op, and apparently he got "busted down" to a store cashier because he would randomly go off on tangents about whatever was bugging him during his ride-op spiel. Little did they know, working in a boring, unbusy air conditioned store is a way better gig than working in a hot, boring ride environment dealing with the morons that are the general public. -

Hahahaha no, I did not, but that is AWESOME. Oh yeah, one other thing we didn't mention: Dragon Fire and Vortex now have seatbelts. Talk about your BS moves!!! -

It was certainly smoother than Wild Beast, but we also were sitting in the middle seat of the car so were shielded from the bone-jarring vibrating that we witnessed those in front of us dealing with. Based on those visuals, I'm going to go out on a limb and say "It's smoothER, but still not smooth enough to wear false teeth on." -
...seriously? Like, really?

Photo TR: The Johnson's finally get to Dollywood
307 replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Nice report, but you've made me angry that I cannot afford to go to Dollywood, Lake Winnie or SFOG this year! Anger! -
I think what others have said about Voyage being an "exhausting" ride is about right. It's an incredibly long ride and it's intense through probably about 3/4 of it. You get thrown around a lot, but it's not a "OW OW OW WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS" kind of thrown around. At the end of the ride, on almost every circuit I went on, I was out of breath and just thinking "...wow." It's an amazing ride, certainly my favourite in the park, as I thought Raven was underwhelming and Legend just wasn't very good at all.

Still doesn't fit. A coaster closed because of the cold is unfortunate. The only way I could think of that situation being ironic is if the coaster was Mr. Freeze or The Chiller. Or Storm Runner being closed due to rain, as it was when we were there. -

The pictures look great, but they're very hard to see at such a small size. I think it's funny that the only big picture you had was of your rental car -

I see you're from Kansas City. I'm from Toronto. How ironic!! Oh, wait... THIS IS NOT IRONY. Seriously, you can't just use that word at any given time!!! Learn how to use words before you make yourself look stupid! Jesus, people, jesus!!! [Edit: ...nice TR] -
NEWS: New Darien Lake website up!
307 replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The logo looks more like a sports team than anything else, I think. I guess I missed the memo where DL was sold. -
There's an edit button you know. And for us enthusiasts, maybe Wonderland doesn't have the thrills that we'd like to see in other parks. But like Carnage [i think it was Carnage] said, the vast majority of Wonderland-goers have no clue that there are other parks in the world, or better coasters. Hell, a lot of people apparently don't even know about Darien Lake, and that's only about two hours away. If the park is constantly packed, makes a ton of money, and is generally enjoyed by the ever-growing GTA population, what motivation does Cedar Fair have for making any big investments in it? None! I've come to terms with it. I think that others need to, as well.
