I had to go through a few names to finally get mine Nikki - Pet form of NICOLE or NICOLA Nicole - French feminine form of NICHOLAS, commonly used in the English-speaking world. Nicholas - From the Greek name Νικολαος (Nikolaos) which meant "victory of the people".

Photo TR: Mountain Adventure Park

This place looks awesome, thanks for posting this There used to be awesome Alpine Slides at Blue Mountain [a few hours outside of Toronto] but at least ten years ago they cut the length of the track in half due to damage near the top, and then they closed them completely a few years later. I miss those. Hopefully I can make it to this place some time in the near future. -
I went last year near the end of August and it was very busy. We spent two days at the park [both were weekdays] and were lucky we did because the first day was rainy and more than half the coasters were closed. They were also doing one train operations on most rides, even when the wait was over an hour long [this was only the first day though]. We waited over an hour for Storm Runner both times we rode and nearly an hour for pretty much everything else except for Lightning Racer. The line for that went pretty fast. The capacity on Roller Soaker is terrible. There were only two rides infront of us when we got in line [it was a cold day], yet it still took more than half an hour for us to get on..so if you care about riding this don't do it during the middle of the afternoon on a hot day since I'm sure the line can get well over an hour, if not two. It's possible to do the park in one day, but based on my experience last year I'd do two. Expect crowds, even if it's rainy. As for what you should do first, I would say Storm Runner. If you don't get there for opening it probably wont matter since the line was pretty consistent for the rest of the day. Hope that helps a bit.

It's very unlikely that they wont let you through if you don't have a passport, especially since they say all you need right now to cross is a birth certificate and photo ID, but it is much easier to have one. It's also not a huge hassle to get one, so if you're really worried I'd say just get one. Also, if you're under 18 [you don't have your age listed so ignore this if you're not] and aren't travelling with your parents I'm pretty sure you need a note from your parents permitting you to travel with whomever you're going with. I've heard of people getting turned away from the border because of this.

April 1 SFOG trip

With the weight question I think it really depends on how you carry your weight, so it's hard for anyone to actually tell you if you can fit in a ride or not. I've seen several people who weren't overweight at all, but who were turned away from rides because the restraints couldn't close over their long legs. At the same time I've seen very overweight people get on the same ride because they carried their weight differently. So it's more build than weight in most cases. With the blacking out question it's also hard to answer. It depends on you personally, not necessarily on your weight. You might not black out on a ride, but someone of your same height + weight might. It's one of those things you'll have to find out for yourself. -
^ Those are some huge crabs! This TR makes me unable to feel my legs. Fish are scary. It's still an awesome TR though and the penguins are very cute. Thanks for sharing

Another vote for facebook. I pretty much have a myspace account so I can view pictures on friends accounts. Luckily I'm not awesome enough to have many random people trying to add me. Facebook is good for keeping in touch with friends I don't otherwise see or talk to. I also got back in touch with a few friends from elementary school.

I did Idlewild, Lakemont and Del Grosso's in one day, with a lot of time to spare. That's with re-rides and wandering around the parks for a while. There's really not much to do at Lakemont or Del Grosso's and Lakemont was deserted when I was there. Honestly, it's a dump If you go to Lakemont after 5 pm it's cheaper to get in. I think it was $14 all day and $8 or $6 after 5. It'll take you 20 minutes to do everything there unless there are actually people and you have to wait in lines, or if you have to wait for people to ride with. They need at least six people to run the coaster and if you're of normal size, at least three people to run Leap the Dips.

I was really surprised by how quick the Raging Bull line went. The queue was out to the entrance when we got in line and we were preparing to wait at least an hour, but it took just under half an hour to get on. If you want to ride Superman, definately go to that first. The queue fills up right away and the line goes incredibly slow. We were on the second ride of the day and when we came off the line was already out to the entrance. I actually enjoyed V2 more than Wicked Twister. Having the straight spike with the holding brake is a lot different than two twisty spikes. I think it's worth a ride, even just to see the difference for yourself, but obviously that's up to you. Demon wasn't too bad, but it's not something I'd ride more than once. Same thing for Iron Wolf. That's just me though, I'm sure there are people who disagree with me..which is why I'd say you should find out for yourself

It was Zumba Flume at PCW, but they took it out to make room for Top Gun Dudley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls was good too. -

Your coaster count for the year?
shesaidboom replied to canada's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been to 14 parks so far this year, 12 were new to me. I've been on 63 coasters, 50 were new to me. I missed out on 3 credits I really don't remember how many times I've ridden each coaster, but Avalanche at Timber Falls was the most with 20 rides. -

^^ I'm surprised they don't work more on enforcing the rules. If rules aren't enforced, of course most employees aren't going to take them seriously. Even a few surprise employee checks throughout the night would help a lot since employees would be worried about getting caught doing something they're not supposed to be. Like talking on cell phones. -
If I'm by myself I wont talk to anyone, but I have started up a conversation a couple times while I was with someone else. Once at Holiday World with someone on this board actually, after I heard them talking about their trip. Many people have started conversations with my boyfriend and I, a lot starting with "did those hurt?" in reference to his lip rings Mostly I just listen to conversations around me and laugh to myself when people say things like "I heard the Raven is nine feet tall, and the Legend is ten feet." [said by girl who was standing right beside Raven].

The Shapiro Report
shesaidboom replied to DerekRx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ It definately also has to do with the work environment, it's not always about money. One job I worked at for three summers in a row was a minimum wage job, but the environment was great, the people I worked with were great and I enjoyed it, so I put a lot into it. If the management actually kept up with the points system or whatever other system they have in place and made the work environment more positive, employees would probably be happier to work there and would put more effort into it. Learning that they do actually have a system in place but don't stick to it, makes me realize why employees are the way they are. That's even worse than not having a system in place to begin with. Personally I don't think paying them more will make any difference. If the work environment still sucks, they're still not going to put forth much effort no matter how much you pay them. -

The Shapiro Report
shesaidboom replied to DerekRx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I'd assume minimum wage or not much more. During off season when high school kids are in school some parks [ie PCW] will pay workers more since they're usually desperate for them. Even though I think the Cedar Point employee 'points system' is a little over the top it seems like Six Flags needs to start something like this with their employees. From what I've heard from Cedar Point employees, they lose points for doing something wrong, and when they lose too many points they're put on probation, lose shifts, or are fired. I think one of the employees I talked to said they can get points back by working extra shifts..but maybe I'm just making that part up, I can't remember. Some of the things they lose points for seem a little silly [ie. forgetting to wave to the train when it passes by], and I admit I think the whole system is a little extreme, but at least it keeps things running smoothly for the most part. I know there are a few Cedar Point employees, or past Cedar Point employees, on this board so I'm sure their info on this would be much more accurate than mine. From what it seems, several Six Flags employees think they should be getting paid for doing nothing at all. Maybe if they implemented something like this employees would have more insentive to do a good job since they could be left jobless otherwise. I know people have been talking about a shortage of employees, so maybe this would make that worse since many people probably wouldn't want to work under these terms and the park probably wont want to get rid of employees when they're in desperate need of them..but instituting something similar might help? -
Roller Coaster Fear
shesaidboom replied to swami2302's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm afraid of heights, but they don't bother me if I'm strapped into a coaster train. I've met quite a few people who are the same way. -

Nice TR, I enjoy the pictures muchly. I don't want to have to wait until next year to find out if El Toro is better than the Voyage! I've rarely ever seen line jumpers, but I have had an old man push me in line! It was at IOA, not a SF park though. What's with all these violent people? The only pain experienced at a park should be from the SLCs. -

I like how all those people get paid to sit around and not do their job. Reminds me of most of the people at my old job -
My parents did the same thing to me and I wouldn't go near a coaster for several years. Not ten, but still quite a few. They also lied to me about what the coaster was like. Now it always irks me when I see parents dragging their crying kids onto rides. In most cases it'll just turn the kids away from them.

I did pretty much the entire park, plus a few rerides, in about six hours in July in 2001. A lot has been added since then so I'm probably not much help though. I think two days will be enough, but if you're really worried about not having enough time I doubt you'd have a horrible time spending an extra day there anyway I haven't been to Asterix, but personally I'd rather spend an extra day there than Disney.
-
^ You're right that would be even worse, Gwazi's dispatch times were ridiculous when I was at Busch Gardens last August. We had to sit in the train for at least five minutes before dispatching while they checked everything. It doesn't make any sense.
-
I really wish I could ride El Toro this year and hearing all these reviews make me even more anxious to visit. The operations sound pretty awful though. When I was at SFKK I was a little surprised by the "do up your seat belt and don't touch the lap bar" thing going on, it just made dispatch take even longer. With El Toro I realize they want they get everything done up really tight, but they don't seem to have any problem on most coasters with checking the seat belts and lap bars at the same time. I'm a little surprised about them not testing the ride until well after opening, especially since it's brand new.

They sometimes give them out to guests who get stuck on a ride after it breaks down, but they wont always do that. I've seen them give out exit passes a few times at Cedar Point for that reason. I got one after getting stuck on Wicked Twister. Also, when I was at Darien Lake, a couple people got stuck on the boomerang [their restraints refused to open] and the ride-op started a Six Flags trivia game. My boyfriend and I won a couple exit passes for anwering questions. The kids who got stuck on the ride also got exit passes.
