Disney Characters gone wild?
shesaidboom replied to dubaidave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree with the point a few people made about those employees signing a contract and they really shouldn't have violated it, regardless of whether they thought anyone would see or not. I worked for a popular children's television station a couple years ago and I had to sign a contract saying I would not release any information about my job. I wasn't even allowed to tell anyone what my specific position was, as there was a risk that children who were part of the audience of this station could find out. I wasn't a character or anything, it's hard to explain without telling you what my job was A co-worker of mine signed the same contract, but later wrote about her job on her livejournal and basically went on and on about how stupid the kids were for believeing everything she said. A child [i think he was 12 or so] did a google search, looking to find out more about us, and found her livejournal post. That child's parents called the company and pitched a fit. The child also told a bunch of other children about it. While it wouldn't have brought the entire company down, it could've completely screwed up our specific part and we could've all lost our jobs. It caused a lot of problems and she was fired over it. So my example was on a much smaller scale, but the same idea. If you sign a contract, it doesn't matter if you think anyone is looking or not, you do not go against that contract. You never know who will find out and you're not only screwing yourself over since you'll most likely be out of a job, you're screwing your whole company over. That'll look real good on a resume. -

The Voyage made my shirt come off too, but I didn't check to see if it was caught on camera I will just say it wasn't. I also suck at shooting dark rides, probably worse than you do. Everyone in my turkey car thing? had scores in the 1000s or at least high hundreds and mine was like 20. Maybe I shouldn't be admitting this. Nice TR. Glad you didn't have to wait until 2007 to ride the Voyage -
I've posted my furbabies in this thread before, but here are a few more pictures anyway The quality of this picture sucks, but it's still cute. rory lenore snowie

Jer and I rode the wild mouse at Dorney with another adult + kid, but they made us ride in seperate cars on Woodstock Express. Have they changed their rules since last year? -
I guess I don't even need to say the first one is the best one, since everyone already has. The best shark movie ever will be out in 2008. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450459/ I cannot wait.

My brother's girlfriend is here and she wont go away. If you knew her, you'd understand why this is a horrible thing. I guess since so many people here enjoy rodents, I should mention that she condones the killing of hamsters

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
shesaidboom replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Congratulations HW! I have to say I was very impressed with their staff. The first part of our visit there was awful, everything kept going wrong and all the coasters broke down. We were very disappointed since HW was the highlight of our trip. While we were talking about it in line a staff member over heard our conversation and came up to us to apologize and explain that this wasn't a usual thing for them, it was just a very off day. Her apology was very sincere, not just a "oh we're sorry for the inconvenience". I was so impressed that she had done that and just that alone made our day so much better. We're definately going back next year and will hopefully have a much better experience. -

^ Have you actually been on both El Toro and Voyage, or are you just saying El Toro is better because you can actually ride it? I don't want to seem like an asshole or anything, I'm just wondering. -
A good TR nonetheless! The Toronto zoo doesn't have penguins either, which is weird since our zoo is supposed to be top notch.
-
Where are all the monkeys? And the penguins?

Someone left an onion in the cupboard and forgot about it. It rotted into a smushy, soupy mess and nobody noticed since it was in a cupboard that rarely gets opened and the door is magical and doesn't let smell seep through it..or something. Well, I finally opened the cupboard and found the onion, along with a bazillion fruit flies. The mess is cleaned up, as well as everything else that could possibly attract the fruit flies, but they wont go away!

^We've always followed up our "Lake Compounce sucks" with an explanation of our experience. We never actually got to experience the park so we're not sure what the inside is like, and everyone we've talked to about it is aware of that. They're free to form their own opinions of the place, but I don't see anything wrong with being upset about our experience and sharing it with others. Isn't that part of the point of trip reports? Sharing individual experiences and opinions of parks? We've never said anyone had to agree with us. We didn't check the website as we did not have a computer or internet connection with us, but even if they did update the website they didn't update their staff or phone message. They should've done both, especially within less than an hour of opening. Other parks may have similar issues on occassion, but we experienced it with Lake Compounce and not another park. If it had been any other park, we would've written the same things about that park. I don't see why we should brush it off and say "Oh they're probably a good park despite this. Everyone else seems to love the place". We're upset about it and I think we have every reason to be. I honestly don't care how many days they were closed 'due to weather' this year, what matters to me is that they were closed when I was there and on one of the days it was for absolutely no reason. It was actually a nice day and not a drop of rain showed up. If it was pouring rain all weekend that would've been a different story.
-
Yeah, they definately didn't open at all. On Saturday we stayed in the area way past 11 am and called several times to make sure it was infact going to be closed all day. We kept calling to make sure because we couldn't figure out why the park would be closed when it wasn't even raining. On Sunday we called at 10 am before we left the hotel [where they said they'd be open] and then again at 10:45 and were told the park would be closed all day. I agree. I get that they're not the most visited park and they'd probably get a lot less visitors in the rain, but I'm sure many people do go out of their way to get there and if those people get screwed over they'll think negatively of the place and probably not want to come back. Like us! Then they'll go tell all their friends about how much the park sucks. Like we did! That's not a way to spread positive things about your business. I know tons of people already love the park and will still visit no matter what, but they should still be trying to build up a bigger fan base. We actually rode Hades for the first time in June, and you're right it was great. So was Avalanche right next door. We still want to ride Boulderdash though, just to experience it for ourselves. I'm just not sure we'd risk driving the 9 hours to get nothing again, when we could go somewhere else we know will be open when they say they will be.

I wish I was into coasters when I visited Germany, I need to go to some awesome German parks! I did go to the Koln Cathedral though and a bunch of other ones in other places that I cannot remember at this time. Black Mamba looks amazing and holy crap that's some nice themeing. Mmmmm kokosnuss.

That's what we thought, too. But I want to ride Flying Turns! So we will probably go back next year. -
I will never understand why people pay a stupid amount of money to go to University and then sit there and talk with their friends, chat on MSN, and watch music videos through all of their classes. What I don't understand even more is why they feel the need to disrupt others who actually want to learn things and do well so they don't fail at life. If they don't want to be there they should leave. I've had to listen to at least five 20 minute lectures on how we're grown ups now and why we shouldn't talk when the teacher is talking. Our profs also have to periodically stop during lectures and remind people to STFU. I am trying to learn, go away Another thing, why do online stores charge so much money to ship to Canada?! Canada is not that far away from the US and it doesn't cost THAT much more to ship things here, yet most online stores insist on charging a lot more. If it costs $5 to ship a shirt across the US, it shouldn't cost $30 to ship that same shirt to Canada.

Ever felt this way?

As others have said, hobbies tend to come and go. I used to love going to parks, mostly just my home park, when I was younger. I wasn't very into coasters in terms of knowing things about them beyond "WEEEE THIS IS FUN!" I stopped going for several years and got back into it a few years ago when Jer wanted to go on a trip to Cedar Point and I thought it would be fun. Take a break from it if it doesn't excite you. If you miss it, it's not like you can't get back into it. If you have easy access to parks and can go on a trip at the drop of a hat that could be it too. I know that for Jer and I part of the excitement is planning trips out nearly a year in advance and counting down 30592230439024 days until we get to go. -
That's a high school?! My high school was a box with windows and a tiny front lawn. We also never got to build robots. No fair.

I got kind of freaked out on Opa's lift when our car didn't catch properly after our first ride so they sent us around again, the car being able to spin the whole way. It rocked back and forth pretty violently on the lift, which was a little terrifying and that along with the ride ops who didn't seem to know what they were doing, made me think "maybe this ride doesn't spin the entire course for a reason!" After the lift, it was fine. A lot more fun than a regular ride where it just spins during the second half. -
