What Rides Scares the Crud Out Of You?
pvcoasterguy replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My "OMFG/Holy Crap!" Rides Are: 1) Summit Plummet... holy god. Just standing at the top of that 200 foot tower, watching people go down is scary. Trying to push yourself to get going is worse though. That ride is just crazy. Slush Gusher (the one with the three humps) is pretty scary also, because after the third dip, you hardly touch the slide until the end. 2) Deja Vu... 3) Top Thrill Dragster... just sitting there for the launch. 4) Top Spins/Frisbees with good programs. In a good way. Top Spins with a crapload of spins are awesome, as are the frisbees that have a "super spin cycle on crack." -

That was incredibly hard to read. Could you please: a) Use Spell Check b) Write in complete sentences (no fragments!) c) Not Use Run-On Sentences.. this was the worst part about your TR. d) Read a Grammar/Usage Book Example: "So we dicided to head for Apollos Chariot. when going past Escape from Pompeii there was no line so we hit that first jeff did not want to go at first but I told he you signed up for a group that rides everything so you will ride everything so he rode it." It would helpful if it was written like this: "So, we decided to head for Apollo's Chariot. When going past Escape from Pompeii there was no line, so we went on it. Jeff did not want to go at first, but I told him, "You signed up for a group that rides everything so you will ride everything." So, he rode it. Please, we really want to read your TR, but it's impossible at this point. Thanks! -
I went on Deja Vu at Great America two years ago. The harnesses were really bad. I hated them so much. I did not feel secure at all. In fact, without the nice and snug lap belt, I would have been thrown around a ton. However, if Vekoma would fix that issue, the harnesses would be good (in fact, I really like that extra bar that goes across at the chest.) Just make them tighter!

Suess' Sky Trolley seems like a nice relaxing ride, kind of like the PeopleMover. I really enjoyed the PeopleMover, so hopefully this will be as fun (and relaxing.) It's looking suprisingly good. I'm really glad that both Suess Landing and Dueling Dragons are getting some TLC... they both really needed it. -
Element change on B&M's

^^ Hulk can be terribly rough sometimes. Sometimes it's just terrible. I've had about one smooth Hulk ride... the rest were either medicore or awful. -
Mean Streak, last row. What a mistake. It jackhammered at the bottom of every single drop. I thought that I was going to break some ribs on that ride.

LOL @ "Yae!" Great TR. Vapor Trail does look quite good for a roller skater... pretty darn big! -
I still enjoy Raging Bull for what it is. The first drop/turnaround is insane, and the rest of the ride is more relaxing than anything. However, I do like the figure-eight finale... it's pretty darn intense for a B&M (and the trims before it are hardly ever on.) Raging Bull has had the same amount of "trimmage" for quite a while now. The ones on the third hill are pretty hard, but they usually don't prevent some nice, long floater air from being had. The mid-course ones usually are on just a tad, allowing nice air off the brakes and the following hill. The ones before the finale are hardly ever on. I think I've had one ride that they've been on, and they hardly slowed us down. The only other ride with trims (other than mid-courses/excluding Wild Mouse) is American Eagle. Usually the trims aren't terrible on it. In fact, they've been running it better than ever in the past couple years. The brakes on the top of the helix are a light grab for the forwards side, and on a little harder for the backwards side (probably because you'd be beaten up to death towards the end of the helix with the sudden transition into flat track. Forwards doesn't have the insane transition, and well, it goes forwards. Sometimes there's a tap at the end of the helix before the dropoffs, but they hardly slow you down. The ones before the finale helix of roughness doom are almost always on pretty hard. But, it's a good thing because that final helix is really tight and pretty darn rough.

I really need to go to Holiday World sometime, especially after these great reviews of Voyage/Gobbler Getaway (I love dark rides.) Anyway, great TR! -
A couple of comments about Great America (it's one of my home parks...) 1) Whizzer... I think it's about the novelty. The ride suffers from "MCS (mid-course syndrome) in which the ride totally dies after the midcourse. Sure, the twist-dive thing off the midcourse is fun, but the helix is slow. However, the first part of the ride is fun, with the first drop craziness (dive into the trees) and the amazingly high-banked turn after the first twist-dive thingy. It's a fun ride, not an intense one. It's one of the most enjoyable, not-intense rides in my opinion. 2) Orbit... we are blessed to have a well-run enterprise. It is an amazingly fun ride. 3) Richochet... fun ride, but it induces ten trillion protein spills every day. 4) Raging Bull... yes, the third-hill trim sucks. But, it doesn't kill the air there. The air is very bad in the front, one little float, then wait for the rest of the train to catch up. However, the back still has a nice long light float over it. The other hills are better, though. But, the first drop in the back does kick ass. 5) Rue Le Dodge... these bumper cars are actually some of the better ones around these days. They're really heavy (from the Mariott days), and you can get some good collisions on them. In addition, they're relatively fast. 6) American Eagle... it's tempermental. Last season, it was great in the summer. If you rode in the front of the forwards side, it has a ton of great air, with minimal braking. Backwards was also pretty good last season. AE gets better in the summer, after it has warmed up a bit. 7) Iron Wolf... is very intense. Rough? Sometimes. Occassionally, you can get a nice, smooth ride on it, which allows you to see how insane this ride actually is. You go through the loop incredibly fast, as with the corkscrew and the entire last section. Crazy. SFGAm is probably the greatest Six Flags park around. Staff are usually great, as with operations. We also have a good variety of rides and a nice atmosphere. (The original Batman is still the most badass.)

I have the sudden urge to say this: YES! The hippies won it... it came down to brains and, well, the frat "girls" don't have any. Congrats on a great season, Amazing Race! Hopefully we'll get more viewers for next season. -
Another Sad-and-Pathetic Photo TR: Water Country USA
pvcoasterguy replied to cfc's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
The toboggan slides are the scariest ones ever... the whole idea of skidding across the water on a little toboggan really fast is insane, and, in the end, the ride is fun yet bizarre. Although, upon further thought, Peppermint Twist looks like the scariest one there. It can't be fun or comfortable... Anyone been on it? -

Methinks it's Fuji-Q Highlands- they had the Pizza-LA ride on it, and it looked like they were riding Dondopa. Anyway, back to the show, I'm just glad that MoJo is out... they were so annoying. This final leg should be a pretty intense one- three great teams. -
Lucas Arts developing theme park game
pvcoasterguy replied to TheGreatOne's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Frontier is the group that totally screwed up the RCT series. They didn't have any involvement with RCT2 (which was great) until the expansion packs. They did the incredibly crappy expansion packs for it. Then they did RCT3, which, while fun, has major flaws. This game is going to suck, for sure. -
RCT 3 question
pvcoasterguy replied to martinb's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Yes... the Sandbox mode is made for that. Go to "Play Game" (or something like that) and click on Sandbox, then you can start a new one or load ones that you have already started. -
This post just irked me. Aren't you being a little selfish? They're "retarded" (I hate that word) if they don't have the same likes as you? They're retarded because the four-year-old had no symptoms of heath defects and, normally, should have been able to ride the ride safely? He had a undiagnosed health problem. It will give people and option of riding the intense version, or the non-intense version. It's like the non-motion seats in a simulator.

pvcoasterguy replied to ...coasters...'s topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Looks like fun... Great America has (almost) always been a fun park. The rides are fun, the employees good, and the operations efficient. In my opinion, it is the star Six Flags park. While it may not have the huge new rides that some of the others do (ahem, Magic Mountain, GADV) the atmosphere more than makes up for it. And, you can ride Yankee Clipper, the flume ride with the most insane splashdown... ever. The boat literally jumps at the bottom of the huge drop, than tilts back, making the person at the back of the boat soaked. It's one of the few hydroflumes that still has the jump. It's jarring, insane, and totally worth the bruises you get from it. -
It's interesting that they set up metal detectors only for the grad night event. Universal never has them on a daily basis.

Why do coasters sometimes stall in loops?
pvcoasterguy replied to coasterguy618's topic in Ask Alvey
^ My thought exactly. However, Demon did have a safety system that engaged because of the axle breaking, which unforunately stopped the riders in the loop. The same thing happened to the Mindbender, with much different results. (Do a Google search: Mindbender Accident.) -
Most Intense B&M!
pvcoasterguy replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Err... yeah. Raging Bull has hardly any intensity for me. It's a good ride, sure, but it's more relaxing than terrifying. The first drop is great in the back, though. The dip n' drop is the best thing on that coaster.
