At one time? Planning on driving 10 hours when you're not used to long drives can be pretty risky. You should plan for it to take longer then you expect. And break up the drives if possible.

Umm, what?? That made zero sense.

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?

We got dumped on overnight up here. Got up for work, took one look outside and knew it was going to be a slow drive to work. Even coming home the roads were still a mess. Saw like 6 cars in separate accidents within about a block. One guy managed to hang himself up on the center median. -

Keep in mind where this ride is being built. It's being built in an area where most people don't even know what a good ride is. So it's bound to have a bit higher expectations because of that. The public is going to think it's the best thing ever, as they don't have anything to compare it against. But really, at least in this thread I don't see many people being "too optimistic". So I'm not sure where you're going with that. Most people in here have been saying they feel underwhelmed, not overly optimistic. -

Don't underestimate the skill or lack thereof of drunk Canadian iron workers. You didn't think TTD's technical problems were Intamin's fault did you?? -
I honestly hope that they don't make a sequel. I just can't see them duplicating the feel of this movie. And a typical Hollywood action flick sequel just wouldn't seem right either. Kind of like 28 Days/Weeks later. Sure 28 Weeks Later had more action in it, but it was a totally different movie, and was IMHI inferior.

I don't really see a whole lot of praising going on here. In fact the reaction to this ride has been very luke warm after the initial hype wore off. Most of the people I see talk about the ride are more being "cautiously optimistic". But you're criticizing trains that aren't even on site yet. You really have no idea what they will look/ride like. None of us do. For all you know the new trains could be awesome. Should probably wait until at least you get some first hand accounts of the ride to make an opinion. -

^ Yeah, I understood it just fine. I was more poking fun at the south in general. At least I'm not the only one who's gone out in really cold weather for ice cream. -

Yeah, but Toronto gets cooled somewhat by the lake affect. In Waterloo the high last July/August was 95. Though the low over the same period was 40. That's the problem here, we have random extremes. In May it could be in the 70s one day, and 30s the next. I can stand the cold until the inside of the windows start to freeze. That's when it gets depressing, when you're standing in the freezing wind, and you realize that after scraping for 10 minutes you still can't see out of 3 of your windows. -

^ I don't live THAT far north. We do get 100F weather during July/August. I think it's a bit different when the south gets really cold weather. Sub zero weather can be quite shocking if it's not something you've experienced. And how to drive/deal with it isn't that obvious if you've never experienced it. However, if up here we got a real unusual heat wave, it might be out of the ordinary. But it's still something that we do experience in some way. It's just that instead of warm/hot, it's crazy warm/hot. -
Exactly. Sure would be a boring movie if they just left right away, only to watch CNN for another hour. If movies were just like real life they'd be boring. It's more exciting when the victim runs up the stairs instead of out the front door. I thought the movie was great. Mostly because it was just so different then your typical Hollywood action flick. The only real parts where the camera bothered me was some of the "busier" scenes. Like when the camera man turns to run as lots of stuff is going on around him. Gets kind of dizzy at those points. Funny that this move was SO much better then Godzilla, at a fraction of the cost. At least in this one the monster wasn't dodging missiles Matrix style, and the military wasn't doing more damage then the monster did.

You guys sure are weak blooded in the south. You poor, poor people suffering in your 40 degree temps. I spent Sunday morning freezing my hungover butt off in -4 Fahrenheit temps waiting for the bus. You appreciate a warm futon and comforter more when you've just been through hell. -
An hour and a half at DelGrosso's is really pushing it. If you're just getting credits, taking pictures and leaving, then it'll maybe take you 30 minutes. I was in and out in about 30 minutes last year, and that included getting something to eat. There's really not much to the park.

Then they sit in the front two seats. I don't really see the fuss about the new trains. So what if they're different. If you really want to have a conversation with someone sit in the front two seats. And besides, those back two seats aren't so far apart that you wouldn't be able to say something to the person sitting there. I'm curious how the new stadium seating will affect the ride itself. I'm a big fan of the Intamin hyper trains, and these seem kind of like B&Ms version of them. (except with the extra space between the back two seats). If it rides well, and produces good airtime in those back two seats, then who cares if a few people are upset that they can't have annoying conversations with each other. -

Not sure, but I wish they'd upgrade their reservations website. CP has a fairly good looking website, and then all of a sudden you end up in a reservation site that looks like a poorly designed website from 1995. -

Just about any camera shop will convert slides. However it's really expensive. Especially when you consider how many slides most people have. Getting a scanner with a slide attachment, and doing it yourself is probably a better option. My parents have an HP scanner with a slide attachment. Basically just a card that holds 4 slides, with a little light that goes on top. I scanned a whole pile of my mother's slides last year for Christmas. Took quite awhile to do them, but that's also because I scanned hundreds of them. -
You shouldn't really be concerned about rain at the end of July. It's the killer heat and humidity that you should be worried about. And yes, at the end of July it will be busy. That's peak season. Obviously going midweek is going to be better then the weekend, but it's still going to be somewhat busy. You're probably not going to walk into a nearly empty park. It's likely that you'll encounter 1-1.5+ hours for the major rides like MF, Maverick, and dragster. And .5-1 hour for the other rides. Hotel ERT will typically have 2-3 rides open. It'll probably be enough time to get a handful of rides in. Which will probably be better then you'll encounter during the day. Though what ride is open will determine that. Like if they have Raptor, MF, and Maverick open. MF and Maverick will have decent sized lines, but Raptor might be a walk on. Or at least that's my experience with hotel ERT. But I only go in the spring and fall. I try not to go to parks in July.

The problem is that 6 or 8 points means that you have to win 3-5 more games then the people you're trying to chase. So they would have to win a few more games then a handful of teams that they're chasing. They need to go something like 25-12 from here out to end up with 90 points. Which probably wouldn't even get them into the playoffs. Just seems highly unlikely. They were closer the last two seasons, and still fell just short. This is just too much of a hole.
-
^ Erik I never would have figured you as a Cafe Risque type of guy. Not sure why you know when it gets busy.
-
The funny thing is that they're only like 6 points out of a playoff spot. So techically a hot steak could get that right back into the race. Or at least that's what some delusional fans will tell themselves. In reality those 6 points are a mountain to get over. I'm really curious what the fallout is going to be at MLSE. It's not like the teachers pension fund has been supportive of the drastic front office overhaul that is needed.

And don't think that coffee/energy drinks will help to stretch your drives when you stat to tire. I'd say 8 hours driving is the most you should really do in a day. More then that, and you really should be used to long drives.

New trains are not going to save that ride. I rode it opening year and right from the start it bashed the hell out of me. When I last rode it I thought it was going to rearrange my spine. I've been on plenty of rides that use those trains that don't hurt that bad. So I highly doubt new trains would help a crappy ride. I thought the park itself was nicer then people gave it credit. But Predator really deserves to follow Psyclone.

I've always considered both the mini-drumettes and the wings to be "chicken wings". Though I thought the pic you posted was big enough to be considered a drumstick, and not a wing. Mmm, wings. -
Stamkos, Tavares, and new management and we'd actually be a good team. In a few years at least. The games have been almost to painful to watch recently. The 3rd period collapses are just expected now. When the worst team in the league totally embarrasses you, that tells you there's a problem.
