Andy Shine's Quiz Time
cal1br3tto replied to Simon Baynham's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The quiz felt easy, but I still only managed to get 14/20. C-. I just barely missed at least a couple, though. -

^^That does sound much more realistic. But even with that in mind, I'm sure the speeds will at least be average-good! -

cal1br3tto replied to Ultracoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow. That's faster than any wooden coaster I've ever ridden. No wonder it looked so quick in the videos. Even if the final typical speed ends up being slower, I just don't see how this coaster could possibly be anything but good. -
And boy are they proud of it! I'm perpetually confused about who holds the "tallest inversion" record...it always seems to be between Medusa and Superman: Krypton Coaster or other floorlesses. Are they tied? Or does no one know for sure? By the way, I do find it a bit odd that there are so few old-fashioned double decker carousels...I'm hard-pressed to think of any beyond the two in the US. It seems you can have a classic carousel, or a double decker, but not both...

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

^I honestly wouldn't mind if they made Comet's station look even more traditional. I find it kinda funny how Comet is the old wooden coaster of their collection, yet Lightning Racer has a much more striking and classic-looking station. -
I've heard about this before and I just don't get it. Anybody know the reason? Was it just a sly, negative attempt to sell more Flash Passes? Did they think it would somehow reduce confusion? Or was it a matter of dispatch times? All these questions, and the answer is probably just "It's Six Flags (America)."

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
cal1br3tto replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha, my first thoughts were "gorgeous layout" and "looks like a GCI". I didn't even realize that was Wildcat. I wish that coaster gave the kind of rides it clearly could, though it is fun in a way. "Timber Trains" sounds like an RCT name. Any hope for a new wooden coaster at Canada's Wonderland some year? I've heard their woodies have potential but aren't very good nowadays, is that right? -
^Ah, apparently I am no good at reading websites. If they have numerous kiosks and display wait times to help you make a thoughtful choice, that sounds reasonable enough. I guess we should just be grateful these systems exist in any form, but my natural response was to be skeptical of something that sounded like it might be a downgrade.

^Isn't the Q-Band less convenient than the Q-Bot since you have to go scan it at the ride you want? And doesn't it only display the wait time for the ride you've scanned, so you can't look through wait times to see which ride you'd like to choose next? And is there some reason SFA isn't well-suited to the Q-Bot? I believe they were by far the last Six Flags park to stop using paper tickets.

^Wait, Chocolate Oranges count? Then I have a new favorite.

^I just had to research how a carousel could be such a health threat. Looks like an unusual, must-ride attraction in this day and age. I doubt I've ever felt sick on a carousel, but watching a fast one is sometimes vaguely nauseating. -
^Yeah, I was thinking about how their wooden trains are not thought of well. But at least these will eliminate headbanging, which is a major plus on Great Nor'Easter (though that ride is still jerky). It looks like they might offer a little more freedom than the Vekoma vests, though I'm not sure it really matters...

What GCI coaster has the most airtime?
cal1br3tto replied to Montuman99's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Lots! American Thunder: Notable airtime all over the course in all seats, but especially the front. Decent amount Renegade: Nothing too extreme, but plenty satisfying nonetheless. Roar (SFDK): Good mixture of mild and semi-intense airtime, though the roughness makes it hard to handle at times. Prowler: The most intense moments of any GCI I've ridden, though its wildness comes from more than just airtime! A little Lightning Racer: Practically none in the back, one pop in the front. Good thing it races or it wouldn't be good at all! Apocalypse: A bit at the beginning, then nothing of note. Not sure if it's improved lately or just not made for airtime. None! Wildcat: I sat in and near the back a number of times and never felt any. I'm still strangely drawn to the ride, though. -

Are the cards non-expiring? That seems to be widespread nowadays among parks, FECs and carnival companies, almost like an "excuse" for not offering refunds. I could see it being an annoyance for non-locals who may not benefit, but that's not really the park's problem. I still have valid tickets for faraway parks here at home, myself. One thing people could do (though I understand many may not want to bother) is actually figure out the prices of whatever they want to do next, then load their cards to meet that exact amount. I often do that at carnivals (though getting denied at kiddie coasters messes up the math a bit). It sounds like there are plenty of kiosks that could make that more convenient, and accepting cash is helpful as well. Hopefully I'm understanding the system correctly. -
Serious idea or not, turning the trains backwards just seems too, well, bizarre for me. I can see how the theming change might bring the idea to mind, but some coasters just don't seem like they should ever go backwards. Of course, I'd probably be first in line if that ever did happen to a floorless...

Goodness gracious. That sure does look promising! I like the recent night shots, too. Then again, what photos of this coaster aren't stunning? -
SoCal Summer Trip Help
cal1br3tto replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You might want to look into the Southern California Citypass, especially if you can work in part of a 3rd day at Disney. It includes a 3-day DLR park hopper plus SeaWorld and USH admission. I haven't used it myself, so I can't vouch for it, but I have done the math before and it could add up to a decent savings (the site promotes it as a 25% discount). -

Well, they have to add in the little rides sometime. At least the Rockin' Tug is adult-friendly (though I've only ever bothered to ride one, myself). It was pretty hard for me to gauge from the hype whether we could expect at least one dry moderate-to-high thrill ride or not. Glad we finally have an answer.
