  1. ^^Looks like you're right according to RCDB, though I have heard some confusing rumors suggesting that the involvement of one party or the other has been exaggerated. I'm not sure of the full story.
  2. Yay, finally more pictures showing off that beautiful track color. I didn't realize it was so greenish.
  3. The layout looks nice and compact! I could definitely see myself enjoying this.
  4. ^Speaking of "dying breed" woodies, here's a partial list of examples I've found: The last Prior & Church woodies are the Giant Dippers at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and Belmont Park. Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland is the last coaster designed by Fredrick Church alone. Coaster at PNE Playland is the last, and supposedly the best, of four Carl Phare woodies. Of the few surviving Scenic Railways, Rutschebanen at Tivoli Gardens is the last designed by LaMarcus A. Thompson.
  5. ^^^That's a shame. I remember Picnik as a good source for free online photo editing; it was pretty in-depth.
  6. Wow, that coaster looks tiny for a spinner. Like you, I'm sure I would never go to Jordan on a "coaster trip," but now I know there are credits I could work in. Then again, I'm not sure I've ever thought of going there. The amphitheater looks like a scenic place to spend some time exploring.
  7. I don't believe I've ever seen such up-close pictures of the maintenance ball. Looks cozy!
  8. ^I like how well that Gerstlauer blends in with the pretty scenery around it, even if it is a tiny little coaster. Also, I thought maybe you were suggesting there was a town in Austria called Lockers...but, well, let's just say I have discovered that is not it.
  9. Time to post an updated response to this somewhat repetitive thread. I'm taking my dates from RCDB. 01. Jack Rabbit, Kennywood, 1920 02. Thunderhawk, Dorney, 1923 03. Thunderbolt, Kennywood, 1924 03. Giant Dipper, SCBB, 1924 05. Racer, Kennywood, 1927 05. Wildcat, Lake Compounce, 1927 05. Coney Island Cyclone, 1927 08. Dragon Coaster, Rye Playland, 1929 09. Coaster Thrill Ride, Puyallup Fair, 1935 10. Yankee Cannonball, Canobie Lake, 1936 Apparently I like old wooden coasters more in appearance than anything else. Only Giant Dipper, Yankee Cannonball and Cyclone are in my top 25, though I also like Coaster Thrill Ride and Thunderbolt.
  10. I assume it wouldn't just be the "coaster crown" again, right?
  11. ^Agreed. Fun updates! If anyone still needed to be sold on this event, these photos would do it.
  12. Oh! I think I know this one! Morey's, right? I was so dead on the New Jersey days. At SFGAdv I only (and barely) woke up in the evening to ride El Toro.
  13. ^Then yes, let's hope they just cram in a coaster elsewhere.
  14. ^I'm the opposite of many people with Wildcat; I didn't feel any roughness of note (and I mostly rode in the back), but I didn't feel even the slightest amount of airtime. Although apparently it was much wilder with PTCs, I'm sure I've heard that it still has airtime (I rode in 2011). Maybe it's a front seat ride like other GCIs. Is the front recommended on Roar as well? I do find Roar West downright painful in the back seat.
  15. ^According to Mitch Hawker's poll results, its most recent (and worst) ranking was 179 as a defunct coaster in 2007. It bested only Grizzly in 2005: and in 2006: Note: Sorry about all the edits. I made some mistakes in my original post.
  16. ^Sounds like SFA and SFDK have more than just a Roar in common. Now that I've ridden a lot of chain park coasters, it's more of a drawback to me that all the coasters at SFDK have clones or near-clones elsewhere (though a couple have unique quirks). Thankfully, that will change shortly, at least for the foreseeable future.
  17. ^Roar West has slipped to become one of my least favorite GCIs, partly because of roughness, so maybe I have an idea of what to expect. Although they have different trains, perhaps they have similar age- or layout-related issues?
  18. ^/^^Thanks for the extra info! At any rate, I'm also pretty interested in Wild One and S:ROS. Maybe add in Batwing and Roar since I've had decent experiences with Firehawk and the other Roar.
  19. Aren't parking garages often prohibitively expensive? I feel like I've seen that discussed regarding some other park(s). On the other hand, obviously they do get built. Are there even that many at parks, though?
  20. I love Poltergeist, so I'd really like to ride Joker's Jinx. I think I like Flight of Fear a bit more, since the darkness obviously adds an extra level of disorientation, but I'm glad a couple of these are outdoors. The headchoppers are more intense (they're some of the best out there), and I like admiring the unusually twisted layouts from off-ride.
  21. Six Flags parks do seem to fluctuate a lot, not just year by year but even day by day. I hope this one is able to build a better reputation, as some of the coasters sound really appealing to me.
  22. Besides, it seems pretty common for Cedar Fair parks to have two woodies with big differences in quality between them. See Prowler and Timber Wolf, Renegade and High Roller, Blue Streak and Mean Streak, Shivering Timbers and Wolverine Wildcat, etc. The contrasts (which I'm just basing off of popular opinion) can almost be a bit comical.
  23. Same; I didn't know Freefall was once so pretty! And yes, tunnels are good.
  24. To me, that is all that matters. Regardless of origin, they are widely used and understood terms. I will add, though, that I usually group mini-hypers in with hypers, and I may exclude some 200-299' rides from the hyper category if they're not in the style of a traditional hyper.
  25. ^^I think I could be satisfied with a "family thrill" launcher. The two you mentioned look like they have fun, interesting layouts. I don't necessarily need my launchers to be extreme...just better than Pony Express.
