Sure they're slower than the cable lifts, but they a much quicker than most lifts. Ride Diamondback then go ride Flight Deck, Vortex, or The Beast or ride Goliath then ride Georgia Cyclone, MindBender, or Ninja if you want to see slow lifts. -

Mass ride removal trends
CoasterGuy06 replied to megametal's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of the reason there has been such a mass removal of old log flumes/shoot the chutes is the fact water rides are generally pretty expensive to run. You consider the amount of water it takes to fill, all the pumps, belts, etc. and then consider many of the older ones have leaks that constantly need repair and you have an easy candidate for removal. -
It usually does not take long. Dismantling along the track would be the most difficult part, while putting it back together can take just a couple of hours with some trains. I've seen an Arrow looping train be put back together pretty fast before. Granted those are much different than the 4D trains, but it still shouldn't take long.

Great photos Zach! DSB is easily the best day I've spent at SFOG....or just about any other park for that matter! -
Arkansas scraped by both Ole Miss (one of the worst SEC teams in a decade), Vanderbilt, beat Troy by 10, in addition to their blowout loses to Alabama and LSU. Plus their offense is more pro style than spread, FWIW. Heck, call LSU and Alabama what you want, but LSU finished 17th in scoring offense and Alabama 20th. If the only two game of theirs that you watched were the two against each other than you come to the wrong conclusion about their offenses.

OSU might have scored a couple of TDs on Alabama or LSU, but still would have lost by 20+

You can't compare the numbers to any other title game except last year's game. From 1998-2010 they were on basic network channels ABC and FOX. They are now on ESPN which will always have smaller numbers because you have to pay extra for it.

Still hard to believe I've been to two BCS Title Games in the past three seasons. Roll Tide Roll.

Who killed Geauga Lake?
CoasterGuy06 replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both are to blame. Six Flags over expanded the park (like they did with a few other parks). I think the real mistake was combining the park when they bought Sea World. While it seems to be working ok at SFDK, I think they should have kept the parks Six Flags Ohio/Hurricane Harbor and Six Flags Marine World or use the WOA name for the former Sea World park. The combined park was just too big to be offered under a combined ticket. I also think the 2000 expansion should have been scaled back. Cedar Fair really overpaid for the park as well (seems to be a theme with Kinzel's later years). I remember reading an article when the park closed where Kinzel said in hindsight they should have probably kept the animal park a year or two and try to make it work, because he felt closing it had a much bigger negative impact on the park than they ever imagined. Once their attendance slipped even more you can't blame Cedar Fair for wanting to downsize the park, but that just leads to more problems when people hear that and will just asume the park is closing (hello people still thinking SFMM closed). -
My worst one was at a local Sonic. In the summer they advertise how they are "Even sweeter after dark" and "Open til Midnight or later." Those familiar with the brand now they have all kinds of ice cream treats. Well on night I went about 11, so an hour or so before closing, and my friends and I ordered different ice cream treats. The cashiers response was "We've already cleaned our ice cream machine for the night so you will have to order something else." That did not go over well with us at all.

While many states have laws requiring it, most parks height restrictions are AT LEAST the manufacturer minimum. It's not really new. Even without the laws their insurance providers are going to require it anyway. However, as we see with CF, they have decided to raise the restrictions higher for some reason. Heck, a few years ago the (now former) operations director at Alabama Adventure raised the height restrictions on two rides because he didn't feel like his son was big enough for them even though they met the manufacturer requirement. He felt safer with the rides having a higher restriction. The real question is why does CF have the different restrictions? I can kind of understand having all of your Enterprise rides having the same restriction system wide regardles of manufacturer, but different restrictions for Arrow mine trains doesn't really make sense to me, but I'm not in charge for CF.

One thing I didn't get with Cedar Fair's seatbelts was I visited 4 of their parks in 2010 (Carowinds, KD, CP, KI), and every single Arrow coaster train had had seatbelts added to them EXCEPT for Iron Dragon. It blew my mind they left one ride without them. Although speaking of seatbelts and CF...I LOVE the way they have done retractable belts on their wooden coasters. It can really hurt your back fastening empty seat belts all day, so I approve the way CF has helped that problem!

What exactly do you mean by this? Are you referring to Jaguar at Knott's? For example, Demon at CGA has a 48" requirement while the identical Demon at SFGam has a 42" requirement. All CF enterprise rides (Orbit, Witches Wheel, etc.) have an unnecessarily high requirement of 54" while all Six Flags enterprise rides have a 42" requirement. CF rapids (not sure if all) carry a 46" requirement, while other parks have much lower requirement. The list goes on. Huss raised the height restriction on their Enterprise rides to 54" a few years ago, which is the version the CF parks have. I do agree with you on the other though. Also Adventure Express at KI is 48", which blows my mind.

No. I've only waited for one hour+ a handful of times (Spiderman, Forbidden Journey NYE last year, etc.). The longest I ever waited for any ride was 1.5 hours for Dragster, but an hour of that was downtime. The only reason I even did that was I had already gotten the rest of the credits at CP. That's why I love things like Flash Pass.

Yeah I never feel bad when people complain about going to parks when they are packed. It's not hard to know when that will be. Same goes for buying things like a Flash Pass. I haven't bought one in a couple of years BECAUSE I plan my trips on days I know they won't be crowded. Same thing goes when people complain about the gate price at a park. Spend 5 minutes online and you will now what days are best to go and discounts to avoid full price. -

Closing for capacity never goes well. I remember when the phone system at AA went down due to the amount of incoming call from people complaining when they shut for capacity back in 2006
