Well, since this has been dead for a while, I'll bring it back to life with an easy one. "God creates dinosaurs. God destroyes dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroyes God. Man creates dinosaurs--" "Dinosaurs eat man, women inherit the earth."

Well, when I was on my deployment to Afghanistan, in the event of my untimely explosive death, my parents would receive over $600,000. These days, it's somewhere around . . . Oh, wait. $3990 Damn alcohol and McDonald's food.

One of many things from the '80s I wish had stayed dead!!! Monkeys will fly out of my butt before I pay ten bucks to watch this crap at the theater. (Sad things, I'll be eating these words when I actually watch the movie.)

While I was in Afghanistan, Navy personnel did a lot of the service support and rarely went outside the FOBs. I don't know what the Navy does in Iraq. Chances are it's not much different. Honestly, you have the same odds of being killed in the US as you do in Iraq. The liberal media has so distorted what the death/causalties numbers mean that its put fear in soldiers being deployed there that they will die. (Afghanistan has a higher death rate of 1.6 deaths per 1,000 soldiers while Iraq has 0.9 deaths per 1,000 soldiers.) I will tell you from personal experience that what truly happens in Afghanistan and Iraq is not what's being reported in the media. They are so focused on the BAD stuff that they overlook all the hardwork the military and civilans are putting in to rebuild Iraq at the cost of their own lives. The media overlooks how more Iraqis show up to vote--under the threat of violence--than here in the US. The media overlooks how--even with the violence--Iraqis feel they are better off than under Sadam Hussein. Many friends and people I know have returned from successful deployments to the Iraq, and yes, a few I knew were killed. Going into combat is scary, that I know very well--it scares the hell of me--but purposely trying to use a medical condition to get out of a deployment, in my opinion, is cowardly. You are doing a disservice to your country, your fellow soldiers, and your family and friends. Keep in mind that is my OPINION, and please do not flame me just because I feel differently than you (that includes anybody else reading this post). I'm single and don't have much in the way of attachments, so deployments overseas doesn't bother me that much (yes, I do constantly think about my parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, etc. while I was in Afghanistan). I've watch fellow soldiers with families and I've seen the hardship and heartache that comes with these deployments. (It's one of the reasons why my dad left the Air Force.) Active duty soldiers have it easy from the stand point that they don't have to drop everything. Reservists and Guardsmen have to literally put their lives on hold for a year and a half, and I know just how difficult it is to do that (I have yet to finish school). Whatever you decided to do or whatever the end result is, I wish you the best of luck. Without knowing much of your situation/history, I know what's going through your mind. I apologize for being a little preachy. You can pull the soapbox out from under me and bash me across the head with it.

Blues Brothers! Watching that police car get launched into the semi trailer is absolutely funny! All the car chases in that movie are outrageous. From the car chase inside a mall to the huge police car pile-up. They must have crashed 30 to 40 some cars while making that movie.

When my dad was in the Air Force, he had a small chess board that was made of metal and all the pieces had magnets on the bottoms. A great board to use during flights. And Kudos for the Marines who took this pic. Been there, done that.

Elissa's Random Thought of the Day!
pagemaster_b replied to SharkTums's topic in Random, Random, Random
Whats wierd is that Aiplanes and Airports ALL run off ONE time system. "Zulu Time". They created Zulu time so pilots wouldnt get confused when changing into different time zones... But as to the means of making everyone in the SAME time zone..good luck! I dont understand either why we dont all have the same time zone...but...the world is a very imperfect place, now isnt it? -Ryan I did a lot of air transportation coordination for the Task Force while I was in Afghanistan, and all the flight schedules were in Zulu time (Greenwich time). It's nice when dealing with several time zones, but people had to have local times because they just couldn't grasp the concept of Zulu time. -

Elissa -- I missed your random thought of the day while you were in Spain and Europe. Will you be starting it up again? -
Post your favorite your mom jokes!

Your momma is like a squirrel--she always has nuts in her mouth. Your momma's hair is so nappy, she uses it as a mop. Your momma's so ugly, she walked into a beauty parlor and it took three days just to get an estimate. -
DANG!!!! For a minute I thought that Apple released an ipod version with a built in taser. Now that would be a blast!

No. Do you drive an armored tank?

My condole--er, . . . um. Congratulations!!! So, when are you going to have kids? (Just wanted to be the first to ask that annoying question. Oops, I hope I don't curse you with a Honeymoon Baby!)

Second hand smoke does bother me. Usually I try to move so that the smoke does blow towards me. Since I joined the military I have wto major complaints about smokers. One, they take more breaks than necessary to get out of work. And two, I'm always the one picking up the butts they toss onto the ground. Wow. You came out of the closet and nobody noticed.

The three soundtracks I listen to the most are: Jurassic Park, The Truman Show, and October Sky.

While Order of the Phoenix flows a lot better than Goblet of Fire, it still suffers from the same problem: Cramming too much of the book's storyline into less time. Seriously, the movie need to be another 30 minutes longer minimum to fully capitalize on the book's arcing story. Too many of the important side stories and intertwinging subplots were lacking completition and/or explanation. And worse, we're seeing far less of the magic and wonder of the Harry Potter world. The first three movies still stand out as the best.

Afghanistan, Qatar, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan (all military, meaning I did not get off base as much as I wanted to). Layovers in Germany, Ireland, and Iceland. Soon to be traveling to Japan and South Korea with TPR. (Yeah! My first offical stamps for my passport!)

The adventure of Lil' Robby Robb
pagemaster_b replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Flipdude, your first comic strip held a proud spot on the wall in the office I worked in while I was deployed to Afghanistan. I posted it after an "arguement" with an officer about whether a single enlisted soldier should blow his money going to Japan to ride roller coasters or blow all his money on massive amounts of alcohol and rampant sex in Bancock, Thailand. Needless to say, Japan still won out. (Translation: I need to lower my standards and get a life!) Thanks for all the outrageous comic strips. They were good laughs when I needed them while I was in Afghanistan. Please keep up the good work and continue posting more. -
Photo TR: Oaks Amusement Park.
pagemaster_b replied to 65skylark's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Now that I'm back from my deployment, I need to hit this park. I've already hit Enchanted Forest and Thrillville down in Salem, and Oaks is the next small park on my list to get me eased back into the big parks and coasters. The Screaming Eagle is SO much better than the crappy one at Knotts. The bumper cars are some of the fastest I've been on! I miss the mouse coaster that use to sit where the looping one is now.
