So while down at Dogfish Head this weekend, I picked up some other stuff of theirs, including some Vintage 2005 goods. I was excited to try some of the lesser produced DFH beers, so after some yard work and dinner, it was time for their barley wine, the Immort Ale. And its got a smokey finish, kinda tastes like bacon Whoa! That sure is a barley wine, talk about sweet Only released on April Fools day every year, the Immort boasts "luscious and complex, this smooth full-bodied ale reveals interwoven notes of maple, vanilla, and oak"

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
DerekRx replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Keep in mind the Steel Dragon incident is a little bit different, since the wheels are on the outside of the track, whereas every other Morgan has the wheels on the inside. From the pictures, I would thing an entire assembly broke off of Wild Thing, thus allowing the back of the car to detach during some of the transitions. Who knows, maybe part of the track was off somehow, leading to the assembly being ripped off to begin with. As the train came into the brakes, the airtime, directional changes, and sudden stop could have caused the now "3" legged beast to lose control of its entire backside. As far as I know, Steel Dragon only lost a wheel or 2, not the entire assembly. (as if "only" when referring to an accident was a good thing!) -
Millenium Force out of Operation?
DerekRx replied to JulieWent's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^If Steel Force is down, its not due to a "blown lift motor" as is the case with Millennium Force. Steel Force would be down (and I assume Mamba at WOF) because of the accident on Wild Thing at Valleyfair!. Since they're from the same manufacturer, and we don't quite know yet what caused the train's separation, they probably ceased all operations of those particular rides. With CF buying Paramount, every Paramount park being in need of a hyper, CF adding hypers to every park immediately, and now with this accident, CF could very well get a nice discount off of some new Morgan hypers for their new parks!* *I'm kidding about this! -

Wait, this was a Swimteam meet?! Well that's extremely lamer than a DIO meet. And here I was, thinking you were all cool and on the cutting edge of Olympic sports with the DIO competition. Talk about a disappointment! BTW, Wes: I LOVE how if I type in xswimx it shows up DIO! -
Photo TR: Six Flags America

SFA is a park that I think would really show how "well" Six Flags is doing. Every visit I've ever had there has left me relieved when I got out of the park. If I went there and actually was impressed with the place and had a really good day, I'd know the new Six Flags was working. Of course, I don't think I'll go there this year. Thanks for the photos, it looks like you had a good day. Still odd that they make you pay for the park maps, other parks give them to you at Guest Relations if you didn't get one in the parking lot. I know SFGAd and SFOG did, and they were free. -
Before heading out to do some landscaping, I like to unwind after work. Quite a fine Kolsch Ale, and a wonderful hint of summer Tonight's unwinding beer, the Curve Ball.

^I'm really a fan of IPAs, followed by regular Pale Ales, Wheats, and seasonal ales. Not too big into Belgians, not this time of year. Pilsners usually make me pee too much. I'll compile my selection sometime tonight maybe and let you know what I have. (Hopefully I won't drink it all before Friday!)

^Oh you meant for swapping! Yeah sure, just PM me and let me know what you want and if I have it or can get it, I'll bring it. Sadly, not too many places around me carry microbrews in 6 packs, so I'm usually forced to get a case. I'll let you know what I want, I know New Belgiums Fat Tire has always been a good beer to me, but I'd be interested in trying out some other stuff, as well as some Terrapin stuff etc. But if its Lancaster, Victory, Troegs, etc that you're interested in, I've got that and should be able to bring a variety with me. I don't know if I can bring enough for everyone in the beer thread who will be at the event though!

Jim Koch started Sam Adams in his kitchen. Wally, you may be the next big thing to hit the beer market! I'll be able to say "I gave him HopDevil once!" proudly. Hope it turns out good and not skunky. -
Watch out Elissa, more fanboys now know your secret AIM name! Now you're really ready to kill!

Cedar Fair buys PARAMOUNT PARKS!
DerekRx replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think this could be a good thing, but also could have some negative consequences. I'll be interested to see what exactly happens with season passes. If they are accepted everywhere, they'll probably try charging like $170 per pass if you live in Ohio. At least the Paramount parks were saved and all stay together. Hopefully operations will improve, though on the downside, no more rerides. -
^I pronounce it the second way, with the emphasis on HO. One funny thing about OCMD is that the entire boardwalk is pretty much bars. Wildwood and OCNJ are all about pizza, snacks, arcades, and tshirt shops, MD is pretty much hotel on the boardwalk, hotel on the boardwalk, bar, bar, bar, hotel. We had to walk all the way down to the one end before we found fast food because everywhere else was a restaurant/bar. Best of all, at 12:00 they were already filling up!

Photo TR: The Johnson's Return to SFoG
DerekRx replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Dude, you look so different unshaven. You almost look like a man! You could trade in your jean jacket for a white blazer and totally be Miami Vice! Glad you had fun and finally got to ride everything. SFOG really is a complete park now with the addition of Goliath, and they still are one of the best in the chain for rides, atmosphere, and operations. -

I'll try to find the photos I took last year from Idlewild and Michigan's Adventure, though most of the noteworthy ones should be in my old Photo TRs. I'll keep Great Escape in mind, as I'm heading there at some point this July. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
DerekRx replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That awesomely super Pinfari Looping Star at Ocean City Pier Rides in Maryland. Coaster #550, woohoo. Sadly, it probably IS the best coaster in Ocean City, MD. -
I'm still missing the Victory brews I was supposed to have today, so now I'm having the Prima Pils! This'll hold me over until I can get back to Victory, or at least until 8pm tonight If only this could transform into a robot, it'd be called Optimus Prima

Got the new case for the phone this weekend, to protect it from other disasters. The case was expensive and I can't use the keyboard with the case on, but I can always take the case off if I have to use the keyboard for email or word processing. Anyway, here's some pics. The case holds the phone nicely, and will prevent any pending doom in the next 6 months until I switch providers Easy to open with a magnetic closure, but not too easy for the phone to slide out accidentally Covers everything when closed except for the speaker, which is good! At least now I can hear the phone ring Leather case form fit to the PPC-6700

Well this may put a damper on Valleyfairs Coaster event and the ACE Preservation Con later this year. I wonder if this will close down the other Morgans until more is known. -

North America "Coaster Zones"
DerekRx replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sweet, I have my own country (though I think its more of a dominion). If you plan right, you can accomplish a lot in a little amount of time. Just look how Robb and Elissa did 7 parks in 1 day last year on the Chicago area trip. If you're dedicated and do lots of planning, anything is possible.
