Some questions about SFGadv....
larrygator replied to canada's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What are you referring to? Nobody said to ride S:UF instead of El Toro or KK. I propose more reading comprehension tests. However, it might be an option when both ET and KK are not running -
Some questions about SFGadv....

^nope, once I saw that there was a line I went elsewhere. -
^what a shocker, a 14 yr old praising the demise of a classic. I remember when this ride had 2 hour lines when it opened and famed Hollywood stuntman Dar Robinson filming ads for the park. Luckily I rode this early this season for the first time in about 15 years. That drop still provided the great sensation of "freefalling". Amazing that I had forgtten how loud the ride was.

Some questions about SFGadv....

The problem you will come against at SFGAdv will always be closed rides. Today the park was fairly empty but KK had a two hour line when it was running and El Toro was at least 45 minutes (when it was running). S:UF had a ridiculously long line. Chiller was not running, nor were a couple of flats so the lines became longer on the major coasters. Nitro was pretty quick but unfortunately a girl passed out from the heat which added delays for many people. If one has never been on a haunted swing/mad house then Houdini's Escape is a must ride. Honestly most of the flats at SFGAdv completely blow. Just in the past year three of the better ones are gone, Rodeo Stampede, Spinmeister and now Freefall. The only coaster worth waiting for the front is S:UF is you really need the view. But then again I'm not a big fan of the front row. -
Yes, the Alveys are forgiving and will let you back on the bus at the next destination if your cab makes it, but if you delay the bus for the 53 other particiapants your butt will be left behind and you will be on your own. No ifs ands or buts. For those that worry about not knowing anybody. I only knew 2 others before the trip (Rich and Mel), but Robb and Elissa set up a forum just for the UK Trip members on the site so the 50 some odd of us had a chance to get to learn about each other before the trip. I didn't even know my roommate before the trip, because he was a last minute sign on, but he turned out to be a great roommate. The only trouble occuring in Sweden when he turned on the porn channel in flipping through stations. Neither one of us had a precedent in our life for watching porn with someone we really didn't know as Carl changed the station. Unlikely, the AussieA$$holes we did not get Ben & Jerry's ice cream and settle in with the fine plotlines. LOL But at least we were up nice and early for Liseberg and Balder. I guess what I'm saying is as long as you respect hygeine, people's personal space, obey the group rules and love amusement parks you will fit in, make friends and have a great time. I'm sort of a loner to begin with and as people splintered off into smaller groups I sometimes went off on my own or rotated to a different group for a couple of hours.

And if you are stupid enough to get on the bus an hour before it departs don't bitch at the smart people who take their time getting a little extra sleep, eating breakfast, showering and applying deodorant before boarding the bus at 5:59AM. Derek: you can add my name to the list for the beat down crew

1 - I can't beleive the number of people who don't seem to have the ability to read all of Robb and Elissa's initial posts. Oh wait, I can beleive it. 2 - Casey, I live 1 1/2 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, surely a geographically challenged west coaster would know that is the East Coast, not Midwest. However, if I can squeeze a long weekend in I'll follow the bus for a couple of days. 3 - Derek, Pennsyltucky is pretty much the Midwest. 4 - It is not unfair for someone to hold a spot if they get their deposit in early, if you are next on the list you will take their spot when they drop. 5 - It is not a lottery, priority is giving to whomever pays first. Remember R&E may have to front some money to reserve buses, rooms, ERT for 50 people, so they need cash on hand. 6 - One bus of people for ERT rules, R&E have stated this will be a fundamental tenet of TPR tours and with good reason 7 - When you send your deposits in, whatever you do - don't address the to Robb, you money will disappear.

Question for all you UK Trippers
larrygator replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I planned for $50 a day which is about what I needed in Sweden and Norway. However, in the UK I got off pretty easy because I only spent about $420 over 10 days there before hitting duty free shopping. Of that $420, about $50 went to random gambling and about $120 went to beer. So I got away with only about $25 a day for food/drinks/upcharges. It was that economical because Robb & Elissa supplied one meal a day and I loaded up at that one meal. Although, I did not stuff extra muffins in my pocket as take out. -

Jay - There were a couple of little Italian food stands in the park (I think the name was Giorgio's and I have no clue if they are still there) but they had a a garlic cheese bread that was very good. And get a Beaver Tail with a topping, the best fried dough treat at any amusement park. They put funnel cakes to shame. I wrote a pretty comprehensive TR on another site, that we both frequent, if you want to dig it up. -

Most INTENSE Coaster Moment?
larrygator replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Intense to me means my brain and body not being on the same page and the brain is sensing something completely out of the ordinary and with that said: #1 - Pretzel Loop - nothing else comes quick to having my brain says WTF #2 - Backwards Loop You know what these have in common. You don't see them coming so your brain has trouble processing the data. If you want the most single violent element - ride Cyclops in the last row. If you want it to be ultra-violent, ride it with your eyes closed. -
Sheikra Rocked!

here's a tip - when you get on the ride listen to the instructions and ride ops so that the train can quickly be dispatched. Oh and wait for the purple car on Cheetah Chase, the purple car rules -
The Official "TPR 2006 UK Tour" Thread!

^yes, the Finnish are ripping on Joe. It is a true international phenomena now. Joe - and don't forget the fun you had watching me get punched in the face and harrassed at SFGAdv. When should we let Joe in on the joke that the whole UK Trip blew and we wasted our money. -
How Many Hours/Miles

I'm you are staying in Manhattan proper, plan on 90 minutes driving time just in case there is traffic in the tunnels leaving Manhattan. -
Any suggestions or hints for my European trip.
larrygator replied to Coastinmiller's topic in Ask Alvey
Elissa - how could you not mention Brer's Burrow at Oakwood! I hate to jump in the "Ask Alveys" threads, but I would suggest you hit every dark ride, they are all unique. Seek them out, especially at Blackpool where they can be tough to find and don't skip the haunted swing at the end of Impossible. Also don't skip the simulator ride at Tusenfryd, by the water coaster, inside the Dragon mouth. I missed it but others that went on the UK Trip said you could get headphones with translations and that it was pretty good. At Chessington the bumper cars hit pretty hard (for non-Lusse) and actually gave some airtime on some good hits. Also, if you want to make a fool of yourself the carousel has two tea cups that you can spin pretty violently, you will get a crowd laughing at you if you go full force. FYI - At Thorpe Park you can get a single rider wristband at guest services that could save you some time on a couple of rides. If you don't have the single rider wristband the ride ops might turn you away when you get to the front of the line. At Drayton you might want to try Stormforce10 for it's uniqueness as a reversing flume/ splash boat ride , I skipped it since it started raining. Gasten Ghost Hotel is an upcharge walkthrough haunted house at Liseberg and well worth it. -
I know that you know this, but you didn't miss much at Sylvan Beach. I did it alone in 25 minutes. Insert joke here...

Herc - if you are driving up there again send me a PM. maybe I'll drive up with you since you know how to find Hoffman's and I can't.

A weekday (except Friday) in late August is better than a weekend in September. Even if September were to have a few less customers they also have less ride ops, since many have returned to school.
