Playland/PNE (Vancouver) Discussion Thread

Here's some photos I took in Playland, last weekend. I think my biggest, latest surprise, after actually looking around a bit,. was the grilled cheese place Cheese Please. I did not know it existed, until this visit. And the add-ons look great, too. And it also made me think - I have never seen such a theme park food place anywhere in my TPR world tour travels, that I remember. Which then makes me ask...are these grilled cheese sandwich stalls any where else in the world? In any parks, theme or non-? I can't remember, lol. I do know there's a food truck in the city, that sells grilled cheese sands. So......? Next visit... A Playland Food TR... on their grilled cheese sandwich place, CHEESE PLEASE! The entrance to Playland, with that wonderful scenic background, there. Looking at Coaster from the SkyWheel. Newly renovated Music Express! I was Surprised! This wasn't announced for the season, as it was mainly a removal-and-repaint job. The cars have been painted in a black and white theme. With red lights. Another view of it. They took out the middle flat piece that hung down and created a "tunnel" at the back of it. That's the 'removal' part. Now it's gone, and you can see the entire ride, front and back. And it looks great! A far shot with Crazy Beach Party in action, in it's final year, here at Playland. New attraction replacing it, next season! My money shot of AtmosFEAR. From the SkyWheel. Hellevator surge (?) tower on the right, there. A look from the park's merry-go-round. It's relaxing and provides a few good shots for me here and there. The Tea Cups aren't exactly "Disney style teacups" but the families enjoys them Our old Vekoma Corkscrew still chuggin' along.. And it actually wasn't bad, and fairly (dare I say) smooth, when we filmed yesterday, with TPR. I was surprised. And if ya gotta go - this is in the kids area of the park. I love the themeing of it. This is in the Kids Playce of Playland, too. Kids like grilled cheese sandwiches? Still??? omg... The Menu. Looks adventurous, especially for the parents, LOL! Definitely worth a look-see-eat next time, LOL! Last look before I leave, with a great view of AtmosFEAR, and the mountains in back. -
Favorite travel places besides amusement parks

London - for the West End theatre. And that architecture I mentioned, before. And Amsterdam. For the ...... coffee shops. -
This is one of those polls, where the whole thing is too slanted towards the WDW Original. And this was The One that all future Towers were supposed to be like. Then Disney started having major maintenance upkeep with this one. So they made Tower of Terror LITE, and that's what all the others are like. Except Disney Sea's. The locals had not known of The Twilight Zone, so Disney had to create an entirely different (but believeable) storyline, that would work in Japan. And this one did and does. Even if you don't understand Japanese, if you know some of the story on this one...it's still a win. So based on these three versions (Anaheim, Paris, Tokyo), Tokyo Sea's is the easy winner for myself.

Here's a few more non-riding-coaster shots I took, before we all climbed aboard Coaster and screamed ourselves silly! Thanks Robb and Elissa, for organizing this morning shoot on Coaster and (sighs) The Corkscrew. And Thank You to the Playland coaster ride ops for really hauling butt, getting that Coaster train (and the Corkscrew train) through the station. Everybody arriving for the shoot - at 8:30 in the morning! This IS Early for me, retired as I am. (o; Elissa chatting with Tom. Robb and Elissa doing their cameras set-up thing. The Group Shot. Nice meeting all you guys. It was great fun. -

There are so many parks in Scandinavia, I really feel are "ahead of the curve" when it comes to new designs in coasters/attractions or atmospheric areas of their parks. And Liseberg is an wonderful example of a successful in-city park. I wish ours was so lucky and imaginative in design and execution! -

^ Great video! And I loved the dark ride-mine coaster attraction. Very cool idea. Wish my home park figured out something like that, lol. -

I have gone into several gay sports bars around the US and Canada, on earlier (1970-90s) travels. Whether they still exist...don't know. But a number of even non-sports gay bars would advertise special nights when such-and-such prof.sport series was happening with games. Special drink prices, and some times Whopper Special Price$ (for an hour or so after the game ends) when the Home Team Wins, LOL! I remember "getting into it" several times, on trips to Seattle. Especially when the home team was playing, in the city itself. Crazy in the bar! Ha! The better your home team did - the drunker you got!

I loved this park! And the coaster! And the Pizza Hut! I just wish everything had been open i.e. dark rides, flume, cable car... But I would love to come back to this park, now that I know the (ahem) lay of the land. Thanks for this, Divv. Some great shots there. And Larry, too!

Darnit. Several TV networks announced TV shows not coming back this fall... and one of them was a recent fave of ours - The Neighbors. Was fun in the episodes and some times winking at the networks, and television in general. Great cast, and some pretty amazing writing, too. We'll miss it.

After we found out, I immediately loved the strategy of ABC and the "Once-er"s creators. This was beyond the successful film! It was an immediate brilliant notion, of "why don't we".....? Bravo to the writers who thought this one up. So looking forward to Season 4.
