What defunct park intrigues you the most?
Nrthwnd replied to coaster57's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ Yes, for Pacific Ocean Park! Me and my mom were there back in 1963, seeing Disneyland and Knott's, but I also knew of this park, very well. Had an info.flyer snail mailed to me, so I knew all about what was there. Sadly, when we were there, around Easter time, we found out P.O.P. was CLOSED during the week! I was devastated, and cried my disapproval. At age 10. My anguish was assuaged with a trip to a mini golf course, lol. But I was still very sad I came "this close" to visiting the park. Recently, I got the book all about P.O.P., and it's really something to enjoy reading through, with a lot of old b/w photos in it. So P.O.P. is definitely worth a time machine ride. The iconic "Starfish Entry" into Pacific Ocean Park. And here's a pic of the recent book I bought, about the park. -

^ I will repeat what I said, in that thread, on May 30, 2011... But who knew we were being fore-warned about these SUPERSIZEring-a-dings taking over, so many years ago? D'oh! -
^ I would go to see that, along with Andy Karl in it! (In the bow photo, he's on the right of Kristen.) (He was the original UPS guy, in "Legally Blonde: The Musical". And in "Edwin Drood". And as "Rocky...The Musical" last year.)

Not exactly a Pink Cadillac, but still... Parked near the Italian pizzeria, across the street from us. Pardon the fuzziness. (o:

Opryland I had known about it for so long. And never got over to visit. I think I still have an old info.flyer for it, somewhere here. -
^ Cool Joey! You would have LOVED the original production, circa...1976? And John Hurley has gotten great reviews for Billy Flynn, through the years he's done the part. ~~~~~~~~~~~~* But - separately - I just realized. From hearing it on the radio. The absolutely ONLY thing I have ever loved about the musical "Candide"... Was the Overture. Huh. Speaking of "Chicago"... Here's the original (1975) Velma Kelly - Chita Rivera! Now nominated for a 2015 TONY award as Lead Actress in A Musical, for "The Visit".

Found this, and had to suggest... The new E-Ticket Ride for Scandi Land in TDS? And that's what I'm calling The Port, for now. Woo hoo! Traveling through 'Scandinavia' like this! (And it doesn't have to be Sven, either. Any reindeer'll do.) -
^ I hope "Finding Dory" is as good a movie, as "Nemo" was. A bottle of FINLANDIA vodka.* About $20 Cdn. * I miss Scandinavia, sniff-sniff.

My only two visits to Phantasialand put a 'curse' for me in the way my health went. First time (TPR Tour, 2008), several of us got terribly sick from a flu or something. Not pleasant. Then, on my second visit (TPR Tour, 2010), I developed a bad pain in my stomach, a result of enjoying waaaay too many slushies, of all things! That was my fault, obviously. But, as the saying goes, "Third Time's The Charm." And with all this new great stuff being built there, (the new flume, coaster)... it might actually work! So, I am definitely planning to get back there. And no more slushies. By the way, this coaster has been looking to me like a not-as-many-loops (or as tight together) The Smiler. Kind of. -

^ That would be awesome if the timeline goes that way! I had/have plans for going back to TDLR in 2020, and figured they'd still be building stuff, then. But this timeline you have, sounds much much better, lol. And I totally forgot about the resort's 35th Anniversary in 2018! Even better for all of this to be built and open. I also forget, that the Japanese tend to get (most) things built faster and just as awesome (even moreso!) than a US counterpart.* *(See Universal Japan: Harry Potter). -
^ Ah, of course. That makes sense. Thanks for that!

My thoughts on it, are that they will (hopefully) open the new Scandi Port in TDS in the next few years, and then "everybody" will be over there while TDL's expansion is being worked on. I also don't think they will work on the new Alice in Wonderland area of TDL, until the new IAsW is built, and up and running. Then they will shut the old IAsW down and start working on the Alice expansion. Or, none of the above, lol! -

^ The previous information, rumors, whathaveyou, suggest that this will be a nine year timeline, with everything done (in both parks) by 2023. The most recent information suggests that this new Port in Disney Sea will/may be open "after fiscal year 2017," meaning (to me) April 2018 or beyond. Hope that helps you. (And have a great time at HKDL when you go there, next year!) -

"Oh, we're on the Transit Steamer Line to Duffy's Port *FROZEN* Scandi Land!" (I'll stop now.) Yeah, I can tell they're happy to be heading there. (TPR 2013 Japan Tour) -

Cool! Through some "man made clerical error", they have extended the deadline for Canadian Tax Returns by five days! Meaning instead of this Thursday @ midnight, they don't have to be in until Tuesday @ midnight, next week! (Of course I filled out and sent in my forms a month ago.) And I got my tax refund at the end of this month!
